The entire Tek Jansen series in a hardcover graphic novel - AVAILABLE NOW!

Every day this week, we’re going to be giving away fun and exciting prizes, and today’s prizes are Tek Jansen themed! In celebration of Stephen Colbert’s Tek Jansen coming out in hardback graphic novel version, Oni Press has offered to do one more promotion to get you some nifty swag!

If you haven’t had a chance yet to experience the Tek Jansen comic book series, you can see a 26-page preview of the novel here:
Stephen Colbert’s Tek Jansen – Hardcover – 26-page preview

The prizes we are giving away today are:

  • One (1) hardcopy of the Tek Janson graphic novel, containing the artwork from all five comic books
  • One (1) Tek Jansen poster, signed by Stephen Colbert
  • Thirteen (13) Tek Jansen posters

To win the prizes:

  • Go to Amazon.com and write a review of Stephen Colbert’s Tek Jansen hardcover graphic novel.
  • Send an e-mail to DB (@at) nofactzone (dot) net, and let me know you’ve done the review.

I’ll take the first 15 reviews, and pick a random winner of the hardback novel, and the autographed poster, and Oni Press will send everyone else a Tek Jansen poster.

Happy reviewing, and we’ll have another great contest tomorrow!

zeitgeist2Hey, Zoners! It’s Monday, and you know what that means — new show! While we’re all getting psyched up for that, we can take time for a mad dash through the Colbert newsosphere. Here’s your zeitgeist for July 27th.

Here’s a fun thing that I’ve already seen posted in a couple of places. It’s pretty cool if you’re both a Harry Potter fan and a news nerd:

  • Echo Chamber of Secrets: 30 Media Muggles and their Harry Potter Counterparts – Mediaite: You’ll have to go look at the whole thing to see which Harry Potter character is the counterpart of different media personalities, but here are a few highlights:
    • Conan O’Brien is Ron Weasley
    • Bill O’Reilly is Draco Malfoy (heh)
    • Chris Matthews is Mad-Eye Moody
    • Anderson Cooper is Fleur Delacour
    • Jon Stewart and Stephen Colbert are Fred and George Weasley (“Extra nerdy parallel: both Stephen Colbert and George Weasley have damaged right ears.”)

Colbert UniversityThe theatrical release of Monsters vs. Aliens is less than a week away!  These last few days of waiting can be the most difficult, so to tide you over, let’s take a look at another animation featuring the voice talents of our fearless leader, Stephen Colbert Presents Stephen Colbert’s Alpha Squad 7: A Tek Jansen Adventure.  Here’s everything you need to know, courtesy of MKTG 401: Marketing Concepts: The Colbertoverse.

TekTek Jansen: The animated adventures (Stephen Colbert Presents Stephen Colbert’s Alpha Squad 7: A Tek Jansen Adventure): In the summer of 2006, the Report began presenting a series of seven animated Tek Jansen adventures produced by J.J. Sedelmaier Productions (the same company that has worked with Robert Smigel, one of the actor Stephen Colbert’s mentors, on his “TV Funhouse” cartoons for Saturday Night Live). TekIn addition to parodying the hypersexual characters in the fiction stylings of Bill O’Reilly, the adventures poke fun at science fiction novels and movies with intricate titles (Stephen Colbert Presents Stephen Colbert’s Alpha Squad 7 — Tek Jansen in “Operation: Heart of the Phoenix — Dead or Alive: A Tek Jansen Adventure,”) and complicated plots. The opening sequence of the first episode parodies the scrolling plot explanation in the Star Wars series, for instance. Each adventure manages to work in a signature exclamation (“Solar Plexus!” “Halley’s Comet!”) and at least one mention that Tek, voiced by Colbert, has “obviously had hundreds of girlfriends.” In September 2007, the show debuted the first of a new series of eight Tek adventures. Created by FlickerLab, these episodes will cover the earlier history of the Tek Jansen character.

For wonderful synopses of each episode, point your laser to Wikiality.com. To see each episode and learn which Report writers worked on it and voiced some of the characters, see Better Know a Report Staffer.

Your homework this week is to discuss your favorite Tek Jansen episode(s).  Mine is “Beginning’s First Dawn”, the first of Series 2.  I’ve got a bit of a crush on the Alpha Squad agent . . . there’s just something about his voice.  I also have a soft spot for “Space Station Theta-Zeus-Aquarius”, because it was the first episode I saw, and Tek’s frustration with his landing gear always makes me giggle like a Hgbwian high priestess.

I know we mentioned a few days ago that Tek Jansen publisher Oni Press would be at the New York ComicCon this weekend. Here’s another bit of info for you – if you’ve always wanted to meet a ‘Daily Show’ writer, now’s your chance! Friend of the blog and “Apocolypse How!” author Rob Kutner will be at Booth #2444 all day Sunday. So stop by, and tell him No Fact Zone sent you.

And another small heads up – Looks like John Hodgman might be floating around today if you’re already there and wasting your time by reading our feed instead of enjoying all the Storm Trooper cosplay goodness.

For those of you Tekophiles in the New York area, you might want to stop by the New York Comic Con this year. You may remember a couple of years ago when Stephen Colbert himself was there to promote the first Tek Jansen. This year, Oni Press will be featuring John Layman at booth #1413 signing “Tek Jansen” comics (keep checking the Oni Press website for more NYCC details).

EDIT:

We just got an update that Stephen Colbert’s Tek Jansen #4 has been printed, but will not be available until February 11th.

New Tek Jansen out – #3 is now available!

Posted by: DB | Comments (3)

Our friend Randy over at Oni Press confirmed that the new Tek Jansen #3 should be in your local comic book stores today. I’ve confirmed with my favorite Dallas comic book store, Zeus Comics, that they will have the new edition in stock today.

Also, if you’re in the comic book store anyway, you might want to check out the “Amazing Spider Man” #153 variant cover featuring Stephen Colbert. (Zeus Comics said that they have already run out of this for this week, but will have more in by next week for sure).

Here’s the artwork for Tek Jansen #3 in case you haven’t already seen it (click for full-size version).
