We asked her to be on staff because, quite frankly, she was sending us so many tips and leads that we figured she could just bring you the wonderful news herself. So give her a happy Zoner welcome!

Stand Up! WIth Pete Dominick

We got some late-breaking news a few hours back about Stephen Colbert appearing on Stand Up! with Pete Dominick, the Sirius radio show hosted by Pete Dominick, who most of you know better as Stephen’s warm-up act before a live taping of the show.

He did his second interview with Pete this week, and you can now hear the audio on Pete’s website for the show. They talk about Iraq, and the Thunderbirds flight, and some very juicy bits about how different sketches come about. I loved the part where they talked about Formidable Opponent and “Stephen 2″.

You simply must listen, and make sure to talk about your favorite part in the comments! Also, if you Twitter, you can follow Pete at @petesbigmouth.

From SIRIUS Backstage:

Stephen Colbert Goes “INDIE” With Pete Dominick Exclusively On SIRIUS

SIRIUS today announced that Comedy Central funnyman Stephen Colbert sat down for a rare radio interview with SIRIUS host Pete Dominick. The interview will air on Pete’s Big Mouth on March 13 at 4:00 pm ET, exclusively on SIRIUS’ new Indie Talk channel 110.

Indie Talk serves as an uncensored forum for non-partisan independent thought and opinion. Indie Talk has no agenda: the channel gives an equal voice to individuals from any affiliation or background, targets the blogger generation, and is a platform for listeners across the country to react to breaking news, issues and buzz.

Pete’s Big Mouth airs Monday-Friday from 2:00 to 5:00 pm ET on Indie Talk, SIRIUS channel 110. On Pete’s Big Mouth, stand-up comedian Pete Dominick challenges listeners to speak for themselves, engage in debate, and have fun at the same time. Dominick can also be heard on SIRIUS’ Raw Dog Comedy Uncensored.

Stephen Colbert on SIRIUS’ Indie Talk channel:

PETE DOMINICK: The channel is Indie Talk. The idea is politics…without politics…

STEPHEN COLBERT: …I like it, I love it.

PETE DOMINICK: It’s a new channel; it’s a new idea…

STEPHEN COLBERT: …It’s a new hope is what it is. You are the Barack Obama of radio…

Arrrrgh! I don’t subscribe to this! I hope I hope I hope it gets replayed elsewhere at some point … maybe www.petesbigmouth.com can feature it eventually? Pretty please?

EDITED TO ADD: Hey, check it out! Previews! Thanks, “Big Brother”!

And for those of you who don’t have SIRIUS yet, check out the suggested “Free trial” links in the comments to this post (h/t TruthPower and rebnej).

Most anyone who has had the good fortune to go to a live show will recognize the shiny head and quick wit of warm-up comedian Pete Dominick. He also has a show on Sirius radio, and a burgeoning stand-up career. Punchline Magazine has a very interesting interview with him, discussing the many different aspects of his career that you may not know about:

Pete Dominick:
Comedy’s utility player
By Dylan P. Gadino I Photos By Kevin Duffy

I wanted to talk to you a little bit about the most recent season of Last Comic Standing. You were voted to stay on but you didn’t. What happened?
I never should have auditioned for it, because if I had thought it through, I would have realized I couldn’t really do it in terms of what’s going on with my career right now.

But, I did audition, and they passed me on to the next stage right away. And then that night they brought back 40 comedians. And I was the first one selected for the top 10 to go to the semi finals. But what happened in the period of time between the taping and the show premiering, is that they said if you want to do the semi finals you can’t really do your radio show during that time. Because you could be asking for votes every day on the air, live. And I was fine with that. I don’t blame them. I was actually going to plan on doing that [laughs].

Let’s talk about your stand-up. When I listen to your stuff, I can’t help but think, ‘This is a pretty well-adjusted guy.’ You’re not fighting off too many demons. That’s something I can’t say for most comics.
My demon level is low. I don’t think I have too many hauntings. I have anger issues, but my psychology is not much different than the norm. Sometimes I fear I won’t be a great comedian some day because I’m not messed up.

But I don’t really get caught up in that stuff anymore. I’m really lucky. But at the same time, I work really hard. And I don’t make excuses for my success or my failures. And if an audience doesn’t love me, it’s my fault. Totally my fault. You don’t blame it on them, and everything I’ve gotten in my career, every credit, every job, every gig, has been because of what I do on stage. But, there’s just something to be said for being a good guy and not having too much of an ego.

We all have egos, but coming up as a comedian, so many people treated me like shit, and didn’t talk to me because I was nobody, or I couldn’t help them. So now, I make a real effort to acknowledge every single guy who’s doing comedy for the first time. Comics think you’ve got to haze guys. And to some extent you do. I abuse young guys. You got to have a tough skin. There’s so many personal attacks. I’m a super sensitive guy, but I think I have a pretty thick skin at this point. There’s no insult on me I haven’t heard.

I always find it fascinating to learn more about the writers and staff who work hard behind the scenes to make sure that the show is the best it can be. I’ve heard from multiple people who have attended shows that the new warm-up comic, Pete Dominick, is quite funny and really knows how to work the crowd. The Asbury Park Press has a featured article today that showcases Dominick and his humorous stylings.

From the Asbury Park Press:

COMEDY IS HARD WORK

But the laughs are easy for Pete Dominick
Posted by the Asbury Park Press on 12/22/06
BY ED KAZ!
COMEDY CORRESPONDENT

From the way things look, Pete Dominick holds the crown of Hardest Working Man in the Comedy Biz. The New York-based comic hosts not one but two shows on Sirius Satellite Radio. He also regularly performs at universities and colleges across the country. And if that’s not all, he landed the coveted audience warm-up gig on Comedy Central’s “Colbert Report.”

“Great gig — or the greatest gig,” enthused Dominick. “I was hired first by Jon Stewart to fill in when his regular warm-up comic got a TV show. Then I got the permanent job at “Colbert.’ Some nights I do both shows. Jon and Stephen (Colbert) are two of the funniest and smartest people in comedy ever.”

KAZ!: What is the absolute worst gig you ever had?

DOMINICK: 12 noon at a community college near Cleveland. No stage, no lights, no introduction and lots of people who wanted to eat their lunch rather than listen to me talk.

KAZ!: What is the absolute best gig you ever had?

DOMINICK: Same gig. Or any gig where lots of people showed up to see a guy they have never heard of do stand-up.

KAZ!: Do you remember the very first joke you told on stage?

DOMINICK: “My dad is really cheap. He always tried his best to make things so he wouldn’t have to buy them. I asked him for a skateboard and he took the wheels off the garbage can and put them on an old ironing board.” Sad, isn’t it?
