THE MEDIA ERUPTS: Nas on ‘The Colbert Report’
Posted by: | CommentsReggin, please! There are all kinds of stories about Nas and his appearance on The Colbert Report last night. Here’s a collection of some of the articles featuring the interview.
- Stereogum:
187,000 albums later, Nas has elbowed Lil Wayne and Coldplay out of the way for the top spot on the album charts this week. 620,127 signed petitions later, Nas has elbowed Stephen Colbert and Keith Olbermann out of the way for some room at the Bill O’Reilly Haters Ball. - College on the Record:
Nas also made an appearance on The Colbert Report to discuss the petition and perform “Sly Fox”, a song lovingly dedicated to his favorite news channel. To college students, Stephen Colbert is a demi-god of sorts – many students looking to him for their news. So kudos to Nas for chatting with Colbert, he just gained about a gazillion more petition signers! - Associated Press (via USA Today):
The network responded by saying, “Fox News believes in all protesters exercising their right to free speech including Nas who has an album to promote.” - RawStory.com:
Fox wouldn’t accept the petition, and O’Reilly refused an invitation to debate Nas, so the rapper took his message to satirical O’Reilly stand-in Stephen Colbert. - Idoler.com:
Nah Right also has video of Bill O’Reilly responding to Nas. You can probably guess whose flow is better. - Huffington Post:
Fox News wouldn’t accept Nas’ petition, but Stephen Colbert did. - Mediabistro’s TVNewser blog:
Before the interview, Colbert aired a compilation video from the protest earlier in the day. Colbert played part of Nas’ speech at the protest, who said, “We already know Fox News is not a news network, they are a propaganda machine.” “Yes, machine,” said Colbert,” Unlike MSNBC, which is a propaganda Pez dispenser.”
Since the official Comedy Central videos of the interview and the performance last night featuring Nas aren’t playing nice today, here’s a version with both completed.

“O’Reilly – Oh, really?” ‘Papa Bear’ responds to the MoveOn protest
Posted by: | CommentsSigh. Here’s Mr. O’Reilly’s usual restrained and nuanced take on the MoveOn protest, including a lovely clip of Fox News bothering Rep. Robert Wexler during his non-working hours, characterization of Fox News’ critics as “vile far-left smear machines”, and this kicker: “It is not a stretch to say MoveOn is the new Klan.”
Yeah … I’m going to have to stick with Stephen’s summary of the situation over at Fox News, and between O’Reilly and Nas, in particular.
ColorofChange.org Petition — Nas responds to Bill O’Reilly like the gangsta that he is — with a petition.
EDITED TO ADD: My earlier link to the O’Reilly response went to a site using a RedLasso video clip. As I understand that RedLasso has suspended its service and its videos will likely become inactive soon (if it hasn’t happened already), here’s a different link to O’Reilly’s comments; this is a shorter clip and does not contain the footage of Rep. Wexler.

Edit: He’s started talking and answering questions!!

EDIT II: The show ended up running from 5:30p-6:00p, as he was off to be on “The Col-burt show” (bless his heart), and said he would be performing “Sly Fox” on the show tonight. You should go and listen to the lyrics [NSFW, for language]. The Fox of which he references is Fox News.
