Six degrees: A great big post about people we love
Posted by: | Comments
Hey, everyone, looks like it’s “clean out my inbox” day again, and I’ve got a lot of updates and tips to pass along to you all.
On a more personal note, I’m currently digging out from underneath a cartoonishly large workload, which was itself just buried under a new mountain of tasks today, so I’m really not sure when I’ll have time to do another one of these posts. I say this to encourage you to leave any additional tips and/or links in the comments to this post, as I suspect a baby born today might reach the legal drinking age before I have free time to do another Six Degrees entry. That said, I’m taking the time to do this one, so read onward!
The Daily Show correspondents
- If you TiVo the shows and skip the commercials, you might have missed this: The Daily Show is going to be live on Tuesday for Inauguration Day, with the correspondents weighing in from Washington, DC. This is one of the few times that DC looks like the cool place to be, so stay tuned. [Now I'm *really* peeved that I'll have to work that day ... but no way I'm doing it from DC! My office is two blocks from the White House, and I refuse to wade into that insanity if I won't even get the chance to see the party. Any of you TDS people who tire of the crowds are welcome to join me at my place, where I'll be grumbling about my job on that otherwise festive day.]
More from Eric Drysdale, J.J. Sedelmaier, Pete Grosz, Laura Krafft, John Oliver, Amy Sedaris, Demetri Martin and Ben Karlin after the fold!

Six Degrees: J.J. Sedelmaier, ‘The Ambiguously Gay Duo’ heading to Ottawa
Posted by: | CommentsCongratulations to J.J. Sedelmaier and the folks behind Episode 11 of “The Ambiguously Gay Duo” on their selection for competetion in the “Television Animation for Adults” category of the 2008 Ottawa International Animation Festival. From AWN:
J.J. Sedelmaier Screens Ace And Gary In Ottawa
July 25, 2008They may be getting a little long in the tooth — and elsewhere — but Ace and Gary of THE AMBIGUOUSLY GAY DUO still know how to please a crowd.
J. J. Sedelmaier, the animation director whose studio has produced all of the AGD cartoons since the characters first appeared over a decade ago, will be taking the series’ latest installment, AMBIGUOUSLY GAY DUO Episode # 11 — “First Served, First Come” to the 2008 Ottawa International Animation Festival in Ottawa, Canada. The festival runs September 17-21, 2008.
. . .
Sedelmaier said that even now, the Duo is still a treat for his White Plains, New York-based studio to work on. “After more than a decade, it’s nice that Gary and Ace can still charm a die-hard international jury like Ottawa,” he said. “And it’s ironic that I was at the Ottawa festival last year as we were crunching on this cartoon — gotta love email and ftp sites! But I think the Ottawa audience has a genuine soft-spot for the team; they always go wild when the cartoon is announced.”
Good luck, Mr. Sedelmaier!

Tek Jansen (wearer of starsuits) heading to Ottawa International Animation Festival
Posted by: | CommentsJust saw this cool article in Animation Magazine; evidently, two episodes of Tek Jansen from The Colbert Report have been selected for competition in the “Television Animation for Adults” category of this year’s Ottawa International Animation Festival. From Animation Magazine:
Tek Takes Sedelmaier to Ottawa
Friday, August 17, 2007
By: Ryan BallRegular viewers of Comedy Central’s The Colbert Report should be familiar with Tek Jansen, a series of short, animated segments produced by New York-based J. J. Sedelmaier Prods. (JJSP). President and creative director J. J. Sedelmaier has announced that two Tek episodes have been accepted into competition at the Ottawa International Advertising Festival in the Television Animation for Adults category. The Festival takes place in Ottawa, Canada Sept. 19-23.
Based on Colbert’s self-published and currently undistributed novel about the escapades of a 25th century renegade hero, Tek Jansen was created by the producers and writers of The Colbert Report and produced by Samantha Scharff and Meredith Bennett. JJSP completed work on the first round of cartoons last year with Dan Madia serving as co-director and designer.
Sedelmaier and Colbert first collaborated on Robert Smigel’s Saturday Night Live cartoon The Ambiguously Gay Duo, and later teamed up for animation on comedy Central’s Strangers with Candy and The Daily Show with Jon Stewart. In addition, Sedelmaier helped cast Colbert in Cartoon Network’s Adult Swim series Harvey Birdman-Attorney at Law. JJSP also animated the title card for Spartina, Colbert’s production company, which is seen at the end of every episode of The Colbert Report.
You can get more information on the Ottawa International Animation Festival here.
The following are the episodes that have been chosen (click to view):
- Episode 2 (Operation: Destiny’s Underbelly: Entrapped!: A Tek Jansen Adventure)
- Episode 3 (Operation: Aurora Strikes Midnight: Courage’s Arrival: A Tek Jansen Adventure).
If you have the time, I’d highly recommend browsing through the J.J. Sedelmaier Productions, Inc. website, too. I’d forgotten all the cool things JJSP has been responsible for over the years (some links here); it’s well worth another look.
Congratulations, Dan Madia and J.J. Sedelmaier, and good luck to you!
EDITED TO ADD: Per Mr. Sedelmaier(!!), NFZ extends its recognition of, appreciation for, and best wishes to 8 Hats High, Dave Lipson and Luciano DiGeronimo.
