Archive for Indecision 2008

The “Indecision 2008: America’s Choice” was a first for both ‘The Daily Show’ and ‘The Colbert Report’. The show, scheduled for 10:00 PM, EST was the first show with both Jon and Stephen anchoring from the same desk. And, in addition to the hour-long time slot allotted to Stewart and Colbert, they were also broadcasting live. The jokes came fast and furious, and according to writer Barry Julien, much more material was written than could ever be used. Jon Stewart made headlines as being the first Comedian to ever call a race live on the air. Seeing both Jon and Stephen visibly moved after the announcement of Barack Obama was a huge moment for the show.

Also, no news as to where Stephen Colbert was “blogging” last night during the “Indecision 2008″ show, but he does have an official twitter: StephenAtHome. It’s from the Home page. (If you haven’t found the Home page, you need to first log into ColbertNation.com, and then click the glowing telescope at the bottom of the main page of the site.)

I can’t stop watching this
Posted by: | CommentsJust hearing Jon Stewart voicing these beautiful, beautiful words is intoxicating: “At 11 o’clock at night, Eastern Standard Time, the President of the United States is Barack Obama.”
Politico has posted another article covering the atmosphere at the Daily Show last night. This quote from Larry Wilmore made me feel simultaneously proud of and grateful to these guys all over again: “When Jon finally said, ‘President Barack Obama,’ I was a little taken aback. It was like I wasn’t a correspondent then. It was surreal.” I can only imagine how much that must have taken them all out of their personae (and into the moment). What an amazing, unbelievable night.

I’ll do a very nice episode guide here in a little bit, but for now, I’d like to just watch and enjoy the special. And Jenny is going to add a poll to this post once the show is over.
But use this post to do all your wonderful community contributions – I’d love to hear what everyone thinks about the show! I’ll work on the guide as soon as the show is over, but use this thread to give all of your feedback that is the wonderful awesomeness that is Stephen Colbert and Jon Stewart in the SAME THEATER! For an hour! For us to watch!!!!
I read today in an article featuring an interview by Barry Julien that said that “there are insane amounts of jokes that were written. . . that no one will ever see.” They apparently wrote jokes for all kind of contingencies in the elections, so we should see a plethora of wonderful and interesting jokes tonight.
Please comment like crazy and give us your reactions to the special.
EDIT:
I’m still sitting here, basking in the fact that America Baracked the vote today. I hope this glow lasts for a long, long time. So instead of doing a guide, I just sat here and watched Obama speak, and watched Anderson Cooper in HD. However, I’d recommend reading Annie Wu’s liveblogging of the show on TV Squad to get a better idea of what happened tonight. I’ll do a guide later.

Both campaigns have worked hard to make their case, but now it’s all in God’s hand. So, it’s time to get my prayer on. First, I gotta put on my lucky praying hat. Okay, alright. I got my chips ready to go (pulls out chips), and my (pulls out incense holder and opens it with guacamole)dip. (Eats some nachos)Thou shalt not eat just one. And of course, my lucky prayer hands. Whoo! Jesus #1! Jimmy, hit it. (Music starts, he dances, then begins to pray) Dear Lord, voting is the most precious, personal freedom we have. So, please make people choose the candidate I want. Oh, and please keep an open mind about that pop tart tree. Amen. Colbert out! Whoo! Folks – I have spent almost two years now telling you what you think. Now, Go vote! Good night, America.”
