Okay, I think I’ve mentioned here before that I think puppets are kind of weird; they tend not to entertain me unless they’re wildly rumpus-ing in Where the Wild Things Are or singing “The Lonely Goatherd” in The Sound of Music (marionettes there, but you get the idea).

Muppets, however, are an entirely different story. Muppets totally rock. I seriously love Muppets. Maybe not Elmo so much, but Dr. Teeth and the Electric Mayhem, Waldorf and Statler (and Waldorf’s Muppet-wife, Astoria!), Kermit and his little nephew Robin, those crazy alien things that come down from space and say, “Ohhh, yip-yip yip-yip. Brrrr-ring!” and such … yeah, those things are awesome. DB and I had a fun little descent into nostalgia talking about Piggy and Kermit, et al, when Google started in on its Sesame Street-themed search pages last week.

So, to honor the 40th anniversary of Sesame Street, here are just a few clips from The Daily Show and The Colbert Report featuring those lovable Jim Henson creations:

Six Degrees: Hiatus Away!

Posted by: DB | Comments (8)

Ok, so we’ve got a whole pile of Six Degrees information for you readers, so we’ll get right to it!

Amy Sedaris

TimeOut Chicago has an excellent little interview from the Rubi Rey rum tasting party in Chicago. I love the pic in this article – only Amy could be invited to a rum tasting party and go, “I have just the dress for that!” I want to be her when I grow up, I really do. Here’s an excerpt:

When we recently interviewed your brother, he said that he doesn’t spend a lot of time on the Internet. What about you?
I just look at the same things. I look up ‘New York Times’; sometimes I look at ‘The [New York] Post’. I look at Google News. The last thing I looked up was a hackle, which is a wig combo you attach to a table and you comb your falls through it. I’m not big on the Internet, but I will do e-mail. Because I’m a “shame-o-gram’er” I hate calling people back, so I’ll wait until two in the morning, like, “I know you’re not in the office now, just want you to know that I got your message last weekend and I can’t do it. Click.” So e-mail has helped me communicate. Now I can just write, “no.” and hit send.

Do you ever Google your name?
I have before, but I don’t do it a lot. I’ll do it if I did an interview that I really liked, and I want to see how it turned out. But, no, I don’t want to see a lot of the stuff people are writing about me.

You have some crazy fans, huh?
Yeah. Riff raff! But I like that. I like the outcasts.

Whoo hoo, I’m riff raff! Score!

Steve Carell

We missed this story during our “Get Smart” coverage, so I thought I’d slip it in here. The Fort-Worth Star Telegram did a cute little article about Second Bananas, and the article discusses Stephen and Steve as their roles as Daily Show sidekicks before they made it big.

John Oliver

You lucky, lucky New Yorkers have an opportunity to see John Oliver perform live during the ¡Sacapuntas! show, on July 24th at the Crash Mansion (199 Bowery, NYC 10002).

Wyatt Cenac

A blog from the local Dallas Weekly, Unfair Park, claims to have the very first interview with Wyatt Cenac. It’s really interesting to hear about his local ties and how he got the job at The Daily Show:

He first auditioned for the Stewart’s show in Los Angeles. During the audition, Cenac had to write a desk piece he could perform with the host. He was then flown to New York for a call back.

“So, in one week,” he says, “I had the audition, got the job and then had a weekend to pack up all my stuff and move from L.A. to New York.”

He is, understandably, excited about the job — and the timing, as Cenac will garner considerable face time in the months leading up to the election.

“It’s an amazing opportunity,” he says. “Because there is so much not just to poke fun at and to skewer, but also just to have access to these things. The other day, I got to interview the state senator of Florida. I don’t know if I ever would have had the opportunity to talk to a politician face-to-face, even though I am asking nitwit questions.

Mitch Rouse

There’s a ton of interviews out there for Mitch as he promotes his new show, “The Factory”. Check out these interviews at Metro, Time Out Chicago, CinemaBlend.com, and the Chicago Sun Times.

Cookie Monster

I love it when fandoms collide. After the Cookie Monster interview, I got an interview from the creator of the Muppet Podcast, and he mentioned that he talks about Cookie Monster’s appearance on The Colbert Report in a recent podcast. I thought the idea of a Muppet podcast was just the coolest thing ever, so I thought I’d give it a plug here.

Meg DeFrancesco (“Meg the Intern”)

I stumbled upon this video and kept saying, “Where do I know that girl from?” Then it hit me – it’s Meg! THE Meg! So enjoy!
