Stephen Colbert in the Zeitgeist – November 22, 2010

Hey, kids! Time to get caught up on the news while Stephen and the rest of Team Colbert take a well-deserved break from the show, which I’m sure they all need very much to complete their recovery from Rally weekend. Our round-up today includes one final (I hope) Rally item, some comments from Robin Williams, an early look at some end-of-the-year sort of things, and word of a possible trip to Florida for Jon and Stephen in the spring.

Stephen Colbert in the Zeitgeist – November 10, 2010

Hey, Zoners! Everybody having a splendid week so far? This zeitgeist will be a bit of a catch-up, with a few new items to balance the old ones that were starting to accumulate a little dust. Today we have another article on Stephen’s Catholicism, a drinking contest that didn’t happen, a special appearance by Ozzy Osbourne that has nothing to do with the Rally, and a chance to vote for Stephen to win something.

Stephen Colbert in the Zeitgeist – October 23, 2010

Greetings, Zoners! I hope you’re all having a splendid weekend, and getting ready for the rally. I know I’ve got a busy week ahead of me because, God willing, I’ll be at the rally myself, helping to restore America’s sanity and/or fear. But we’ve got a week of new shows to get through before we even get to the rally, and there’s been a bit of news piling up in my inbox, so let’s take a look at what’s happening out in the world of Colbert news. I’ve got a few items relating to both the rally and the Report‘s fifth anniversary, evidence of the Colbert bump in action, and an entire multimedia section. Here’s your zeitheist zeitgeist for October 23rd.

VIDEO: Stephen Colbert honors designer Stephen Doyle

No doubt everyone here has read I Am America (And So Can You)!, right? (Please don’t tell us if you haven’t …) If so, then you’re familiar with Stephen Doyle’s work, whether you knew it or not. Mr. Doyle — one of those “good” Stephens, the kind with a “ph” — designed the cover for that estimable contribution to literature. In return for so attractively packaging I Am America, our Sir Dr. Stephen Colbert provided a lovely intro when Mr. Doyle was honored at last night’s National Design Awards.

The quiet faith of Stephen Colbert

This wonderful article posted over at HuffPo yesterday reminded me why I admire Stephen so much for the way he demonstrates his faith at unexpected times, especially when he’s in character. And for an excellent analysis of why Stephen’s expressions of faith are so effective, the article goes to one of the best sources available, the “official” Colbert Report chaplain, Father James Martin.

Huffington Post’s Sanity Bus price tag: $250K and counting

Sanity bus announcement

Well, we said before that Arianna Huffington’s offer to provide buses to the rallies was an incredibly generous gesture. Now that we’re seeing the cost of this offer, it’s even more staggering.

The Wrap has the story, and it looks like Arianna’s offer was as much of a surprise to her HuffPo cohorts as it was to delighted New Yorkers.

Stephen Colbert on the cover of NYTimes.com

Greetings, Zoners, and welcome to our more-or-less-weekly roundup of Colbert news items! Reaction roundup: Stephen Colbert’s testimony for Congress

Stephen Colbert at the Protecting America's Harvest hearing

What a remarkable day it was, Zoners! Stephen’s testimony for the House Subcommittee on Immigration, Citizenship, Refugees, Border Security, and International Law created a huge stir in the media, with reactions ranging from “a disgrace,” “embarrassing,” and “cringe-worthy” to very positive. I’ve tried to round up most of the highlights for you here, but there’s a lot to cover, so grab some extra caffeine and settle in!

Stephen Colbert in the Zeitgeist – the Rally edition

As you might expect, the announcement of the competing Rally to Restore Sanity and March to Keep Fear Alive caused a pretty big stir in the media. I’ve tried to round up some of the highlights for you here, although this is by no means a complete or even comprehensive collection of articles. But as a whole they seem to encompass most of the commentary — some of it sharp and perceptive, some of it ridiculous and overblown — that’s been floating around in the days since the big announcement.

Stephen Colbert in the Zeitgeist – September 20, 2010

Welcome to a new week, Zoners! I know the Colbert Nation is still buzzing over last week’s not entirely unexpected announcement of the rally to end all rallies in Washington. I’ll hopefully have some rally-centric news items for you a bit later this week, but for now here’s a quick round-up of news bytes from the past week or so.
