Welcome to a new week, Zoners! I know the Colbert Nation is still buzzing over last week’s not entirely unexpected announcement of the rally to end all rallies in Washington. I’ll hopefully have some rally-centric news items for you a bit later this week, but for now here’s a quick round-up of news bytes from the past week or so.

Fangirl Suit Report: Returnification Week of September 7, 2010

Salute! Zoners! What a week! So many great Brooks Brothers suits and rappelling harnesses, Military Dress Uniforms, Cigarette Girls passing out beer, Hot Dog Vendor (Vice President Hot Dog Vendor!), not to mention the sexy guy in a hot dog suit, please don’t mention him. The audience again was an integral part of the show [...]

Eye Candy: The United States Army Jazz Ambassadors visit the Colbert Report

I have a very special place in my heart for a man in a uniform, and if they’re holding an instrument, even better. The Jazz Ambassadors Twitter account linked to a Facebook photo album with over 70 pictures from last night’s show. Here are some of the best of the bunch!
Filming Stephen Colbert in the M1117 “Guardian” Armored Security Vehicle

Oh, this is fantastic, y’all: the New York State Division on Military & Naval Affairs has posted an article on taping the opening segment of last night’s show.
You should definitely read this story by Lt. Col. Paul Fanning; it’s no surprise he captures all the fun and excitement of the moment, but he really captures its overall sincerity, too. Stephen and his Colbert Report crew really made these troops feel appreciated, and that’s the best achievement of them all.

Oh man, guys, this has been an awesome show. And it’s only part one — can’t wait to see what’s in store tomorrow!
If you’re waiting to see it, you’re in for a treat, but if you want to read about it first (or relive it by reading about it until the clips go live on Comedy Central), the Associated Press has you covered.
Spoiler alert: 2nd Stryker Cavalry Regiment, others, making plans for Colbert

Hee hee!
Mr. Stephen Colbert, you may be the host, but that doesn’t let you off the hook for some fun and games, courtesy of our troops in Afghanistan.
Spoiler Alert: Army National Guard soldiers ready to join Stephen Colbert

Oh, I’m definitely looking forward to these “Been There, Won That: The Returnification of the American-Do Troopscape!” shows. Probably not as much as the folks mentioned in this New York State Division of Military & Naval Affairs press release, but I’m looking forward to them a lot, nonetheless.
