The current issue of the Northwestern University alumni magazine is featuring a cover story on Stephen, which is one of the most in-depth articles I’ve ever read on the beginning of his career. There’s a lot of fascinating background information on his time at Northwestern and his earliest days as an actor, and comments from many of his old roommates and fellow actors that offer insight into both Stephen’s character and his development as a performer.

Thanks to the Mediate blog, for bringing to my attention one of my favorite lines I’ve ever seen on Glenn Beck (and keep in mind, I only see the stuff that’s pointed out for being bats#!t crazy).
Hey, kids! Time to get caught up on the news while Stephen and the rest of Team Colbert take a well-deserved break from the show, which I’m sure they all need very much to complete their recovery from Rally weekend. Our round-up today includes one final (I hope) Rally item, some comments from Robin Williams, an early look at some end-of-the-year sort of things, and word of a possible trip to Florida for Jon and Stephen in the spring.

I suspect a lot of you are feeling the way I am about last night’s interview with Medal of Honor recipient Salvatore Giunta: impressed, humbled, grateful. The interview was intensely moving and Stephen was quite fittingly sincere throughout the interview; he was Stephen Colbert, not “Stephen Colbert”. The standing ovation was especially nice to see, and it was so very well deserved.
Knowing how I (as a civilian) felt about the interview and SSgt Giunta, I was pleased to see this account from Matthew Colvin, who attended last night’s show at the invitation of IAVA. Read on for his great report of the experience.

I’m not sure if it’s the motion in the pose, or the ripping off of the outer layers for the reveal of the “FREEDUMB” t-shirt, or the energy he is radiating that makes him look like he’s levitating up on his toes, or that deliciously defiant gleam in his eyes, but sweet baby Jesus I love this picture.
Stephen Colbert has been selected to grace the December cover of GQ magazine for the second time, according to JustJared.com. GQ has awarded James Franco the “Man of the Year” title, but has bestowed honors (and December covers) on a few others as well – Drake as Breakout Star of the Year, Jeff Bridges as Icon of the Year, Stephen Colbert as Patriot of the Year, and Scarlett Johansson as Babe of the Year.
Hey, Zoners! Everybody having a splendid week so far? This zeitgeist will be a bit of a catch-up, with a few new items to balance the old ones that were starting to accumulate a little dust. Today we have another article on Stephen’s Catholicism, a drinking contest that didn’t happen, a special appearance by Ozzy Osbourne that has nothing to do with the Rally, and a chance to vote for Stephen to win something.
Greetings, Zoners! I hope you’re all having a splendid weekend, and getting ready for the rally. I know I’ve got a busy week ahead of me because, God willing, I’ll be at the rally myself, helping to restore America’s sanity and/or fear. But we’ve got a week of new shows to get through before we even get to the rally, and there’s been a bit of news piling up in my inbox, so let’s take a look at what’s happening out in the world of Colbert news. I’ve got a few items relating to both the rally and the Report‘s fifth anniversary, evidence of the Colbert bump in action, and an entire multimedia section. Here’s your zeitheist zeitgeist for October 23rd.

Don’t forget – tomorrow night, October 21st at 9p/8c is this year’s ‘Night Of Too Many Stars: An Overbooked Concert for Autism Education’. You can get a jump on supporting the cause by bidding on an autographed March To Keep Fear Alive poster, Stephen Colbert Signed Declaration of Independence, and the item I would bid on if I had the funds, Stephen Colbert’s Autographed Pilots Hat from the musical number featuring Stephen, Jon Stewart and Steve Carell. (Oh, and Jon’s hat is up for auction, too.) While we wait patiently for the unveiling of the epic Sully-themed musical number, you can enjoy another one of the highlights of the evening, featuring Steve Carell.
