From comedy shows to music, the Daily Show correspondents are all over these days!
John Oliver (Correspondent, The Daily Show with Jon Stewart)
- I know I have been making time to watch John Oliver’s New York Stand-up Show at 11 PM EST, Fridays on Comedy Central, but apparently Rob Riggle isn’t particularly interested. For two weeks in a row, he has found ways to avoid supporting John’s new show:
Jokes.com John Oliver and Rob Riggle Talk About the Show Joke of the Day Stand-Up Comedy Free Online Games Jokes.com John Oliver and Rob Riggle – More Reasons to Watch the Show Joke of the Day Stand-Up Comedy Free Online Games As Rob is so eager to mention, it seems he will be on Comedy Central Presents in a couple of months, and we’ll be sure to let you know more about that.
(h/t: MsInterpreted) - Here is an interesting opportunity to see John Oliver from before he was on The Daily Show. The last acting credit John has in IMDb before The Love Guru was as a car salesman on a British medical sitcom called Green Wing. So far as I can tell, he only appeared in a few clips only one minute into the first episode of the first season called “Caroline’s First Day.” You can see it all of yourself (if you’re in the US), as the entire series is now on Hulu. I have not watched the entire episode myself, but it looks like it could be a good show.
- John recently appeared on Late Night with Jimmy Fallon.
Demetri Martin (Former Contributor, The Daily Show with Jon Stewart)
- Important Things with Demetri Martin is coming back for a second season, which is good new for many of you, I’m sure. While I didn’t watch the every show, all the clips I was able to catch were excellent! Although the shows won’t be airing for a while, there may still be tickets available for tapings in San Francisco in mid-February. Follow the link and if you do reserve tickets, let others know it’s possible in the comments.
John Hodgman (Contributor, The Daily Show with John Stewart)
- If you’re in the Bay Area and you can’t see Demetri Martin’s show, you also have John Hodgman coming to you soon! He will be at the SF Sketchfest 2010 at 2 PM on January 30th at Cobb’s, where he will be conversing with Dave Eggers. To find out more about John’s appearance and the rest of the festival, which will have a long of other great comedians, check out this article.
Wyatt Cenac (Correspondent, The Daily Show with Jon Stewart)
- Although it’s too late to see the show, there was a great interview with him in preparation for that gig. There’s talk of the movie Wyatt starred in, Medicine for Melancholy and the way The Daily Show approaches cable news. He also mentions the field producers, of whom I’m far more aware since I started following Miles Kahn on Twitter. (h/t: MsInterpreted)
Aasif Mandvi (Correspondent, The Daily Show with Jon Stewart)
- The National, an English-language paper from Abu Dhabi, UAE, has a great article about Aasif. It discusses the film Today’s Special, which is based on his one-man show Sakina’s Restaurant. Given the setting of the film, there is much discussion of food in culture, particularly Indian culture. Aasif also talks about being involved with The Daily Show while also acting in films.
Ed Helms (Former Correspondent, The Daily Show with Jon Stewart)
- Comedy Central Insider has some great YouTube videos of this great former correspondent showing off in way we’re not used to: on musical instruments. You can watch him playing the banjo while singing along, or playing the piano while chatting along. These are far more authentic uses of instrumental props than when Colbert and Dinello sang with the bassoons. (h/t: MsInterpreted.)

Although we haven’t seen them on The Daily Show for a while, there are some good opportunities here to catch up with all our favorite hosts and correspondents. And while we’re at it, we’ve got some things to anticipate in the future!
Jon Stewart (Host, The Daily Show with Jon Stewart)
- You probably all know by now that Jon had the privilege of introducing Bruce Springsteen at the most recent Kennedy Center Honors event, but this footage of the event is probably new to the Zoners here. From Crooks and Liars:

The break week is a perfect time to see what’s up with the folks over at the Daily Show! The interview with Wyatt is pretty decent replacement for an evening of Daily Show viewing, or you might be able to plan an opportunity to see one of the correspondents live.
Wyatt Cenac (Correspondent, The Daily Show with Jon Stewart)
- Wyatt was the guest on episode 23 of the podcast WTF with Marc Maron. It’s available for download from that site, and also on iTunes. His interview begins during the 17th minute and continues for almost a half hour. Wyatt is so excellent at telling stories, and he also has some great analyses of television. It’s a very long interview, but you won’t want it to end, because there are tons of insights and silly moments. It has my recommendation!
- There’s also an upcoming opportunity to see Wyatt performing live at Penn State, as a part of the College Humor Live tour. It’s December 5, 10:00 PM, at the Paul Robeson Cultural Center’s Heritage Hall. It’s also free of charge. You can read the student newspaper’s article for further information here. It seems like it could be aimed toward a very specific audience, and me telling you I’d go if I were able isn’t a great endorsement, and I’m a real life college student myself.
John Oliver (Correspondent, The Daily Show with Jon Stewart)
- John will be appearing, as part of an excellent comedy line-up, in the show “Tell Your Friends! We’ll Kick Cancer’s Butt!” 8:00 PM, December 8, at Comix. There is a Facebook page for the event here and you can buy tickets at the Comix website. Another familiar Daily Show personality Kristen Schaal is also part of the show. It sounds like great fun, and the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society is unfortunately ever a worthy cause.
John Hodgman (Contributor, The Daily Show with Jon Stewart)
- The San Francisco website 7×7 has a very cool interview with John that coincided with his appearance there earlier this month. He discusses Twitter, meeting fans, and has some pretty amusing responses to other questions. (h/t wren)
Samantha Bee (Correspondent, The Daily Show with Jon Stewart)
- Around the time Sam was appearing on the It’s Satire! panel in Connecticut, The Hartford Courant had an article about her Daily Show work. It includes plenty of quotes from Sam, many of which focus on her part in field pieces and interviews for The Daily Show.
Amy Sedaris (Bonus person, because she’s cool!)
- Amy will be guest-starring on the CBS show The New Adventures of Old Christine on December 9. She will play a woman who Christine treated poorly when they were in junior high. I’ve never watched Old Christine, but I’m so curious I might jump in for an episode to see Amy.

Once again, our favorite fearless interviewers are out and about, sharing their talent in a variety of venues. Check out what they’ve done, or possibly find an opportunity to see one of them for yourself! (Emphatic h/t to MsI and DB throughout.)
Samantha Bee (Correspondent, The Daily Show with Jon Stewart)
- Since the last time I’ve mentioned it in Six Degrees, Sam’s recently finished her role in the off-Broadway show
Love, Loss, and What I Wore. She was interviewed twice as a result of her involvement with that show. In this interview, you can learn a lot about her experiences growing up, long before she was being funny on The Daily Show. For a rather amusing discussion of clothing, among other reflections, you can check out this interview. - If you didn’t see the show in New York, another way you can see Sam is at The Connecticut Forum’s “It’s Satire!” show November 14th, 8:00 PM at The Bushnell Theater in Hartford. You can find ticket information at their website. David Javerbaum, who you’ll remember as co-lyricist of A Colbert Christmas, as well as former Executive Producer of The Daily Show, will also be appearing.
- Whether you’re able to attend “It’s Satire!” or not, you can enjoy this interview by TWoP user shamskygirl. There’s discussion here of both process and gender in comedy, and Sam has some very insightful answers.
Larry Wilmore (Contributer, The Daily Show with Jon Stewart)
- Larry’s book I’d Rather We Got Casinos: And Other Black Thoughts was released in January, but if you’re in Miami, you still have a chance to hear about it from the man himself. Larry is one of the many authors who will be appearing at the Miami Book Fair, which will take place November 8-15. You can find out all about the fair at its website, and although it’s not immediately obvious when Larry will be there, you can probably find most other information about the fair, and possibly more specific information will be available there soon.

Ahhh, Zoners! I got to see John Oliver performing a while ago at Comix! Our friends over at the Daily Show really are an entertaining bunch. Hopefully some of this info will allow you to have similarly joyful experiences!
Wyatt Cenac (Correspondent, The Daily Show with Jon Stewart) and Larry Wilmore (Contributor, The Daily Show with Jon Stewart
- Wyatt and Larry will be appearing a the comedy club Comix in NYC on Friday, August 21, and Saturday, August 22 at 8 PM and 10:30 PM on both nights. For more information and to purchase tickets, you can go here. I was able to see Wyatt when I went to TDS & Friends last year, and I assure you that he is marvelous. I’m sure, based on Larry’s appearances on TDS, it’s not hard to imagine his stand-up being wonderful as well. If you can get to this show, count me as jealous!
- For those on the west coast hoping to catch Wyatt sometime, you should know that he’ll be appearing at the Bumbershoot 2009 in Seattle on Saturday, September 5th from 2:00 PM to 3:00 PM and Sunday, September 6th from 7:15 to 8:15, both at the Comedy Stage North . Also performing with him during that time will be Tommy Johnagin and Maria Bamford. To see the entire comedy line up for the festival and easily click to a page about tickets, you can go here.
- Also pertaining to Wyatt, here is a piece form Variety which gives a brief overview of how he ended up with his current success. I am always amazed with how quickly he went from being in serious trouble to being a full-fledged correspondent at TDS! (h/t: MsI)
Samantha Bee (Correspondent, The Daily Show with Jon Stewart)
- Sam Bee will be appearing in one of the three rotating five-member casts of Love, Loss, and What I Wore, a show which will be running in the off-Broadway Westlake Theatre this fall. Although it isn’t current possible to know when she will appear, and perhaps it never will be, it sounds like there are a lot of other great people in the show as well. The most comprehensive information for now is at Broadway.com, and the show will eventually have a site here.
Jason Jones (Correspondent, The Daily Show with Jon Stewart)
- All of you who have been watching the show lately will surely remember Jason Jones’s trip to Alaska, where he attended Sarah Palin’s resignation speech and gave the media a serious talking-to. Twitter user orbitaldiamonds was also in present, and she has posted some pictures of Jason there in her blog. They are spread over two posts, here and here. (h/t: Jenny)
John Oliver (Correspondent, The Daily Show with Jon Stewart) and Rory Albanese (Executive Producer, The Daily Show with Jon Stewart)
- Exciting news for both John and Rory, as they have have signed a blind script deal with Paramount. As we’re all part of this blindness (we don’t know what’s being written until it’s finished) there’s not much more to say about that besides to hope that it turns out well! This article, which has quotes from both John and Rory about the deal, also says that the two will also form a production venture. (h/t: MsI)
- You’ll also remember that a previous Six Degrees post mentioned that John would be appearing int he new NBC series Community. The pilot for this how is now available to be viewed if you become a “fan” of the show on Facebook. Here is the Facebook page where info for becoming a fan and watching the pilot can be found. I haven’t done either of those things yet, but if you have, you should compare impressions in the comments!
The Daily Show with Jon Stewart
- I’m sure some of you have already seen this piece in the New Yorker: Why Neoconservative Pundits Love Jon Stewart. Whether or not you agree with the perspective they share, it’s always interesting to hear from the perspective of people who decide it’s worth it to appear on The Daily Show.

It hasn’t been very long since the last Six Degrees, but this John Oliver news is time sensitive, and I imagine it would be of interest to very many of you as you plan your summer weekends!
John Oliver (Correspondent, The Daily Show with Jon Stewart) will be appearing at the Comix in New York City on Friday, July 24, Saturday, July 25, and Saturday, July 26. There will be two shows each night. You can visit this page to get further information and buy tickets.
Although it is indeed rather expensive, I highly recommend this show! Comix is relatively small, which gives it a very pleasant atmosphere. You are seated at tables as at a restaurant, but they’re arranged so you can see the stage.
It should go without saying, but if you need to be reminded that John Oliver is a very funny individual, please enjoy this clip from his Comedy Central special Terrifying Times.

As of late, The Colbert Report has been masterfully providing us plenty of good reading. However, folks at The Daily Show have also showed up in the media in interesting ways, whether describing their lives or making jokes with about the President. Let’s see what they’ve been up to:
Aasif Mandvi (Correspondent, The Daily Show with Jon Stewart)
- Two weeks ago The Guardian had a great story about Aasif, where he spoke about his experience growing up in the UK, trying to find acting work in the US, and coming to The Daily Show. It’s called ‘I sit on a fence between two cultures’, and you should definitely check it out.
- Hopefully after reading that article, you’re impressed and sorry you didn’t see some of Aasif’s earlier roles. Well, you have one night to see Sakina’s Restaurant, the one man show he wrote and performed in. It will be on July 28 The SoHo Playhouse. You can get ticket information here.
John Oliver (Correspondent, The Daily Show with Jon Stewart)
- As regular Bugle listeners will know, John did a photo shoot with GQ a month or so ago. The result is now available to be seen on GQ’s website, as the third page of a slideshow here, which features up and coming comedians. Also, in case you were wondering, John said on this week’s Bugle that he did not get to keep that watch!
John Hodgman (Contributer, The Daily Show with Jon Stewart)
- Those who follow John on Twitter or keep up with the political buzz will know that John Hodgman was supposed to be the funniest thing on C-SPAN in a very long time. His speech about Nerds vs. Jocks at the Radio & TV Correspondents’ Dinner recently was indeed very funny. I allowed President Obama to demonstrate his own nerdiness, and considered which category different administrations and media sources belong to. You can watch the speech in its entirety here, where it’s on C-SPAN’s official YouTube channel.

Good day Zoners! As always, the folks from the Daily Show are being funny and/or informative in so many other venues besides the familiar half-hour television show!
John Oliver (Correspondent, The Daily Show)
- This Saturday, John headed out for some gigs in the southern and western parts of the United States. I do not know about the availability of tickets, but I note that he’ll be going multiple shows in a single night in some places, as well as staying for two or three nights in a row for others. Check out John’s MySpace page for time and location information regarding the shows that still remain. I hope some of you will be able to attend, because I am sure the shows will be great fun! Also, sometime this week, John will be a guest on the Regular Guys, which is the morning show for Atlanta Rock 100.5 FM. If you’re in the area but can’t get to show, you can at least turn on your radio!
Wyatt Cenac (Correspondent, The Daily Show) and Adam Lowitt (Producer, The Daily Show)
- On June 1, Wyatt and Adam will be appearing in the regular stand-up show Tell Your Friends! in New York City. The link in the previous sentence will take you to Tell Your Friends!’s MySpace page, where you can get information regarding the location and information.
Jon Stewart (Host, The Daily Show) and Lewis Black (contributor, The Daily Show)
- Although it won’t be on television for a while, it’s worth being excited about “The Naturalized,” a show about immigration that Jon is producing. It will appear on the History Channel later this year, and it will be two hours long! Lewis Black will also be working with the History Channel, as he does “Surviving the Holidays with Lewis Black,” which will air around the 2009 holiday season. Further information about both of these shows can be found here.
Rob Riggle (Former correspondent, The Daily Show)
- Rob Riggle was recently featured in an episode of “Gary Unmarried” (Season 1, Episode 19), where he plays Gary’s half brother Mitch, who causes all sorts of hilarious havoc when he returns from serving his country in Iraq. You can watch the episode at CBS’s Site for Gary Unmarried here. (h/t Lisa)
