SEGMENTS: Stephen Goes on a Catholic Bender, Obama’s Tax Return & Road to the Trump House, Cheating Death
VIDEOS: Monday, April 25, 2011

I’m always so happy when Stephen returns from a break, and this show was full of hilarity to get the week started right! First there was a new word in the opening: Word Hurdler. Just saying it makes me giggle. But what really got me laughing very hard at the top of the show was the image of Stephen going on a Catholic bender. No wonder he was hung over, the poor guy. This was one of the funniest segments of Catholic humor I’ve ever seen him do. But hey, after giving up Catholicism for Lent, he needed to indulge a little. And honestly, I wouldn’t object at all if he ever wanted to bless me without my consent.

I’m already suffering a little from 2012 election fatigue, and all this attention going to Donald Trump as a potential candidate isn’t helping. I can’t take him seriously, yet I’m horrified at the thought that so many people apparently do think he’s a suitable candidate for president. Best part of that segment for me was seeing Stephen’s gleeful smile when he got the audience to chant “rich people! rich people!”

Cheating Death is always one of my favorite segments, because you know that Stephen is going to crack himself up at some point. The character break while he was describing Vaxa Vacsa-Not-Masturbating was epic. I loved the fact that even while trying to hide behind the suit jacket you could tell he couldn’t control that case of the giggles. The entire segment was excellent, although as someone who probably qualifies as “cheerfully obese,” I found the Vacsa-Band External Diet Collar slightly horrifying, in a hilarious way. Because what could possibly go wrong with that? But the Vacsa-Not-Masturbating was a brilliant piece of silliness. I especially liked that the fake hands had both a watch and a WristStrong bracelet. And that guy pictured using the Vacsa-Not-Masturbating? Matt Lappin. Having Matt pose as whatever kind of perv they need for the graphics is becoming a running joke, and it gets funnier every time.

The interview with Ron Paul was entertaining, if a little surreal. He starts talking about the Fed, and my brain sort of fogs over, mostly because I don’t understand a word of it. But he and Stephen both seemed to enjoy the interview.

Oh god, I just knew as soon as I saw That Suit that Stephen would do a sign-off wearing it [oh, the implications!], and I laughed so much in anticipation of that – and then all over again when it actually happened, although Stephen trying to control his giggles behind it and “My apologies to Doris Kearns Goodwin” wasn’t actually helping me much!

Wonderful episode. And HOW gorgeous did Stephen look in crisp black and white after his break??

Gotta love his “I’m not masturbating” face. Though as a female with a major case of the jimmy legs, I was a little offended that Vacsa’s RLS product was tailored for men.

As to Trump, he’s finished. He was already a laughing stock, but Obama’s birth certificate followed by his epic smack down of Trump at the Correspondents Dinner, followed by his interruption of last night’s Celebrity Apprentice (well played, Obama) to announce OMG BIN LADEN’S DEAD!!!! ended any further political ambitions for Trump.

Yes, Trump has been trumped. Actually, I was thinking that Trump might get some of his suits from the same “tailor” that made Stephen’s hide-the-evidence suit. Trump has always appeared to me to be doing verbally what goes on under that suit anyway. And come to think of it, sometimes Trump just stands there and doesn’t move his arms. Hmmm.

Loved, loved, loved this episode!! A great way to start the week and return to the show!!!
Does anyone know what the Latin phrase Stephen spoke meant? I went to catholic school for 12 years, but I took Spanish :)

Hey– I read somewhere that it means “S**t happens.” Makes sense!

I still haven’t watched the Ron Paul interview. I had to study for a final exam that night, and only caught the first two segments. I’m so happy I caught those two segments though, because that character break during Cheating Death was sooo great! Like Ann, this is why I love Cheating Death. It’s always a hilarious segment in and of itself, but there’s almost always a giggle or two from Stephen. What was especially funny to me is that Stephen started breaking during the picture of Matt Lappin and then just lost it when he saw the picture of himself. Seeing Stephen break character and delve into a fit of laughter is something that will always make me smile.

Cheating Death! Cheating Death! HANDS DOWN my favourite! It’s so true that with CD, there’s always a guarantee that Stephen will crack up, big or small. And he didn’t disappoint! AND exactly two weeks later from the last epic character break! I felt myself crumpling into myself just watching Stephen die from (silent as usual) laughter and how cute he looked hiding behind the Vacsa Not-Masturbating suit (especially when he actually hid his whole face for a few seconds). Somehow I have the feeling that he wasn’t expecting that. He went from like “What the-?” (definitely mouthed those words) to “Oh God! Did NOT expect that!” I just love how well Stephen and his staff work together and how they have fun with each other, especially when it seems that the graphic design department will purposely mark up a photo/picture once in a while that catches Stephen off guard and makes him crack up. I swear, whichever TCR staff member thought to put in that photo of Stephen to make him break deserves a giant ice cream cookie sandwich (preferably stuffed with Americone Dream)!

Of course, (almost) all the other segments were great, too. His Catholic bender spiel was a great way to start off after a break; I thoroughly enjoyed the slams on Trump because I’m disliking him more as time goes by; and the Ron Paul interview was actually pretty good, to my slightly perturbed surprise. Great start to the week!

P.S. Is anyone else a teeny bit sad that Prescott now has to market Vacsa instead of Vaxa?
