EPISODE NUMBER: 7028 (February 24, 2011)
GUESTS: Glenn Greenwald, Mike Huckabee
SEGMENTS: Era of American Dental Exceptionalism Is Over, Corporate Hacker Tries to Take Down WikiLeaks, Republicans Flirt With Presidential Candidacy
VIDEOS: Thursday, February 24, 2011
One of my favorite things that Stephen does is promote righteous anger against things that have absolutely no meaning at all, and Stephen’s rant against the loss of toothpaste was just perfect in its Stephenitude. “Yes, there are fewer types of toothpaste than there are days of the year. This is what happened to Rome, folks.” And the “In Mouthmoram?” Bwahah!
I just about spit my cereal out when Stephen said “Now to put that in hacker terms, Anonymous is a hornet’s nest, and Barr said ‘I’m going to stick my penis in that thing.’” And then I got to laughing harder and harder when he started talking about how Anonymous put the smackdown on that idiot.
Stephen’s comment of Mike Huckabee having his hand “under the shirt and over the bra” of Republican voters made me laugh seriously hard, considering that he was going to be talking with Stephen in the next segment. The Reverse Balloon Drop was awesomely cool. And Mike Huckabee is always a pleasure to see on the show, even if I totally disagree with his politics.
The big question on everyone’s mind seems to be this: What’s with the Guy Fawkes flash over Stephen’s face during last night’s episode. Did you catch it? And what do you think it means? Leave it in the comments!
(Thanks to ColbertNation.com user Matt6896 for the screencap.)

The Guy Fawkes mask is a symbol for Anonymous. Very clever, whoever thought to do that. (And creepy!)

I didn’t know about the Guy Fawkes/Anonymous connection. The first thing I thought of when I saw this was that it looked like the “V for Vendetta” mask (which, now that I think of it, was probably also an “Anonymous” reference; I didn’t see the movie, so don’t know most of the context).
The question is, are we meant to think that this was a purposeful choice made by “Stephen” during the editing process to overlayed this image, or are we meant to think that “Anonymous” is so powerful, that they/it somehow managed to “infiltrate” the TCR editing process or transmission and insert this momentary overlay? Hmmmm…. Or maybe – MWAAAAHAAAAAAA!!!

“In Mouthmoram” was so funny! Very silly and very ridiculous, and I loved it. And kudos to whoever made that hilarious cover of Elephant Beat!
Mike Huckabee seems like such a nice guy, who is actually willing to have deep conversations with people he doesn’t always agree with (referring more to when he goes on TDS). So will someone please remind me why he has a show on Fox News? Fox news is not nice. Makes no sense to me.

He may “seem” nice, and in some ways he probably is, but he’s also very anti-gay, so in that sense I can never respect him.

Oh trust me, I absolutely disagree with his politics, and would continue to not vote for him were he to run for president again. But I do appreciate the fact that he’s more than willing to have a conversation with people he disagrees with. And that’s definitely not a quality you find in anyone who works for Fox News (save for O’Reilly and Chris Wallace).

Asides from being anti-gay (as Ericka mentioned) he has also said that the ten commandments should take precedent over the constitution & that all wives should defer to their husbands decisions.
On a much happier front, I’ve been meaning to tell you that I’ve now seen 3 episodes of “Archer” and I’m hooked! So thank you very much. :)

I don’t remeber the wives comment, but I definitely remember the comment he made about the Ten Commandments, and was incredibly offended by it. So I can see, in terms of his politics, why Huckabee is on Fox News.
Another example I’ll use is Bill O’Reilly. I can’t stand the guy. At all. But I always appreciate the fact that he comes on The Daily Show to talk with Jon (even though I’m sure a large chunk of that is for his own self-promotion). I have had plenty of conversations with ignorant people who want nothing to do with an ideal and will completely reject what you’re saying, so it’s refreshing to me for people who disagree with each other to have enough respect for one another to have a conversation and hear what each side’s trying to say. :)
YAY I’m so glad you like “Archer”! I was watching “30 Rock” last night (an episode about mysogyny? Yeah, I’m not missing that one. :P) so I missed the newest ep, but they always replay it later in the week. And you’re very welcome!

I transferred the balance of my Bank of America credit card to a higher interest rate card and paid $75 for the transfer. I have had enough!

We pulled all our business from them a couple of years ago, too, and now I’m extra glad we did… I hear ya!

I really appreciate it when the show takes on something truly appalling that no one else is talking about, in this case the covert attack on journalists. They could have gone for the “easy” stories of the day, but they didn’t.
That and the clever Anonymous-mask reference for diehard fans to catch just keeps the game going and keeps it fun. The Joy Machine earns those Emmys and Peabodies every day….

How can you not love a show with Nat “King” Cole singing a Charlie Chaplin song & Glenn Greenwald?
It was actually here, that I got addicted to reading Greenwald via a posting by Ms. Interpreted.
I really miss her. :(

Hahahaha! IMO, the flash-over did exactly what Stephen and/or “Stephen” wanted, which was to get everyone talking and speculating as to its meaning. This is why I love this show so much!
Well-played, sir! Well-played indeed!

The hornet’s nest line startled me, too, and it seems it did the same to the audience there as well :D. Even Stephen had a bit of a smirk on his face afterward. Love the way he covered that whole mess of a story (but seriously, for real, the fact that such a thing actually HAPPENED, or was attempted, anyway, is rather…unsettling. Doesn’t our Justice Department have, you know, more important things to do with its time?). I totally missed the flash thing, too, that screencap…that is…that is scary, LOL :p.
LOVED the segment on the potential 2012 GOP nominees, so incredibly funny (the magazine was awesome. Favorite one was Michele Bachmann: Crazy…For You?. That had me giggling). Though I really didn’t need to hear Hannity’s stomach-churning suck-up comment to Gingrich (but I loved Stephen’s response afterward).
And the interview with Huckabee-I’ll grant that the guy is willing to have a chat with people of differing views, and that is good. But I cannot support anything that comes out of his mouth (and his house/termite analogy was…weird). I was saying to someone else that hearing such irritating views coming out of the mouth of someone who looks like a friendly next-door neighbor or something is really jarring. And not in a good way.

This is why I hate that I can’t access this site at my school. I had a loong day yesterday, too. ooI swear somedays when I feel like I’ve “discovered” (ok, I’m kidding myself) something like the mask and then I have to wait until I get home to post something about it here it drives me nutty. of course I then got sidetracked and waited until now to do it. BUT, it was cool, even though now I feel silly thinking I was one of few who noticed (silly me). Well, my hubby didn’t notice, so I have that ;)
And man, I need to get our money all into our credit union, or another bank. This BofA is out of control, and Barr reminded me of Clouseau in some respects…
