I’ve always been a fan of Huffington Post, but have also followed the op-ed pieces criticizing HuffPo’s business model of aggregated AP/Reuters content that is paid for, links to other news source’s content, and original content from bloggers who are not paid. Jason Linkins actually wrote a very good post in defense of the HuffPo business model, and I am very much in agreement that if HuffPo wants to link to my blog, they should link away. I hope that the Huffington Post will continue to be an excellent source of news (even if they didn’t create it), but fear that the AOL merger could change what is so great about HuffPo in the first place. HuffPo has been accused of search-engine baiting, and the trend towards content farms like Associated Content and Demand Media is already burying sites on Google who create genuine content but do not employ the borderline black-hat SEO practices that many of these content farms use. These content farms are quickly tainting the reliability of the Google algorithm and destroying the rankings of sites like this one. But I digress. Huffington Post, of course, “repurposed” this segment, and had this to say about Colbert’s response to the sale of the site:
Nation, we here at The Huffington Post aim to bring you the finest news anywhere, which is why we present the Colbuffington Re-Post. Clearly this rising media titan, with top-notch story selection and brilliantly crafted headlines, couldn’t have been made without the smartest and best looking editors on the internet.
And hey, just noticed something – it looks like Comedy Central *finally* fixed their embed code! Is it actually viewable on LiveJournal now? Let me know, Zoners!
Did anyone else hear a bit of Jerri Blank come out when Stephen started talking about tying off and mainlining some uncut Coop? Between that and the “don’t make me put my rings on” reference, the episode was chock full of SWC goodness! Also, if Murdoch is that weak, maybe he should think about getting one of those new 2.3 lb Macbook Airs. Those things can fit in a manila envelope!! Stephen’s reaction to the “sleeping” General Butterbean was simply adorkable.
What did you think about today’s show? Leave it in the comments!
- I love polls. It is the best way to take the temperature of the American people, other than rectally.
- 51%. I am just so proud. I am so proud to have been born in a country where unsubstantiated rumors about people you don’t support become majority beliefs. And you know what? I bet Obama wishes he was born here too.
- You have achieved the impossible – you made me feel angry while looking at pictures of myself. Where’s my money, Arianna? Don’t make me put on my rings!
- And until the Huffington Post pays me to repurposing my content, I am happy to announce my brand new website, the The Colbuffington Re-Post. It’s everything you love about the Huffington Post, because it’s the Huffington Post with a new border around it that says The Colbuffington Re-post.
- I know this show sounds like it was conceived by Hollywood sociopaths to slate the thirst of moral vampires who feast on human sadness, and is just one ethical notch above pay-per-view bum fights, but rest assured the show will handle the subject with the utmost sensitivity because it’s from the same people who brought you ‘Jersey Shore’.
- As Cookie Monster would say, Whale is a “sometimes food”, much like Cookie Monster meat.
- Plus the Japanese don’t kill whales for fun, they do it for research purposes. Without this research, how will Japanese scientists know what Teriyaki Blowhole tastes like?
- And why are the Japanese abandoning their tradition and their science? Because of the anti-whaling organization The Sea Shepherds, featured on Animal Planet’s “Whale Wars”, and captained by Eco-Warrior Paul Watson, who is so extreme, he was kicked out of Greenpeace. That’s like being kicked out of Charlie Sheen’s house for bringing too much cocaine.
- I had that place all staked out with my flip-flops, and when I go get a Sno Cone, I come back and Shamu here is lounging all over my styrofoam cooler. Yeah! They’re on my side! You’re on my side against the whale! I’m winning!
- And get ready for a new Pledge of Allegiance. [Whale sounds] You’ll notice, there’s no “Under God” in there.
- I chase the albino dragon, I ride the silver surfer, I drop a tab of AC 360.
- Yes, The Daily is portable, unlike a laptop. Evidentally Murdoch has the upper body strength of a cricket.
- Oh, I bet he gets all the bitches.
- Look at you! You’re so old! You’re so old! Yes you are!

I love when Stephen baby talks anything. Dogs, missiles, whatever. It’s as hilarious as it is unbelievably cute.
In other news, I just vacuumed my flat and busted out laughing when I realized what I was doing.

Yes, I certainly won’t be vacuuming naked for a while, colbaby. It just won’t be the same!
That Branson thing has been making me laugh all day. But then I cracked up at the Foner-rhyming-with-boner thing. For heaven’s sake! I think I must be developing into a teenage boy, rather than finally growing up into a mature woman [which my mother lives in hope of. Sorry, Mum. Stephen makes me laugh too much]

I know what you mean, I’m never going to be able to look at the task of vacuuming at work the same way ever again now :D.

Loved the “Song For the Whales” callback! And the “don’t make me put my rings on” Principal Blackman line from SWC cracked me up. Both of those little references just made the episode for me.
Stephen looked fantastic yet again last night. And the segment about The Daily was delightful. Stephen seems to enjoy baby-talking to pictures as much as we enjoy watching him.
DB, I can see the video, so it looks like it’s working! I gotta say, I’m a big fan of their new video viewer. It seems to buffer a lot easier for me.

I loved the Huffpo segment, but could not stop laughing at the entire whale segment. Stephen really worked that one up to an hysterical finish.
Great show.

Oooooooawwwwwwww, General Butterbean! Am I right in thinking this isn’t his first appearance on the show? He looks suspiciously like the Canine Suicide Bomber from last year……who didn’t go boom? Who didn’t? YOU didn’t!
[Really, I don't know which I like more - when Stephen swears or when he talks to dogs! Both make me kinda melt....]

Haha, ditto this. I just finished catching last night’s show-oh, my god, could that ending have been ANY cuter :D? I think my heart literally just turned into a puddle of goo.
Also agree with you on the “Foner/Boner” thing (oh, Stephen) and with John on the excitement about the whales. I also loved it when he showed that clip from “Jersey Shore” of one of the girls doing that somersault and, uh, exposing herself-the look on his face afterward just cracked me up.

I just love that “Yeah! They’re on my side! You’re on my side against the whale! I’m winning!” quote – Stephen’s excitement/character break is just delightful there.

i loved the cookie monster meat. thats a lot of protein for a creature that subsists solely on cookies!

Great show last night. There was an article Amy Sedaris did where she listed her top 5 Viral Videos and the game show Iguana was listed. She said Paul Dinello sent it to her. So now every time I see Stephen showing it on the show, my mind goes straight to Paul Dinello.
Here’s the link if anyone would like to see her other picks, it’s the second one towards the bottom.

Loved, loved, loved this episode! How can you not when there’s whale-singing and emotional rollercoasters. (His poor styrofoam containers!) And with the risk of sounding obsessive, Stephen’s nervous hands during the dead dog-skit made me laugh almost as much as his fake crying and wibbly voice. It’s the same with the Even Stevphen Halloween bit, they make him seem like a little kid. Or something, i’m rambling…

“Ohh ho ho! How adorable! And what are you?”
“A correspondent.”
One of most adorkable moments in the history of everything.
And I agree with you about the nervous hands. You can add that to my ever-expanding and somewhat unexplainable fascination with his hands, ha.

I enjoyed this episode so much. Loved all the adorable character breaks! His acting when discovering what had become of General Butterbean was just superb! I am in awe! His crying/expressions/body language were all spot on and perfectly hilarious. And how an earth can he produce such sounds – the whale impression! And I love the accent he uses to mimic Arianna, he should do a whole segment with that accent :D I wonder who in the audience he was referring to about Jersey Shore and why? As much as i LOVE him breaking character and interacting with an audience member, i’m always left with this insatiable curiosity to know the context of the joke/what’s gone on beforehand that we at home have been left out of.
