Colbert Report Episode Guide 150pxEPISODE NUMBER: 7021 (February 14, 2011)
GUESTS: James Murphy and LCD Soundsystem
SEGMENTS: Mysteries of the Ancient Unknown – Egyptian Coincidence, The Enemy Within – Toddler Edition
VIDEOS: Monday, February 14, 2011

Yay for new shows! It’s nice to get a rest from the show once in a while, but by the end of break weeks, I’m itching to start blogging about the show again!

Before I get going about the comedy, I’d just like to say that Stephen’s hair was just lovely tonight. It had a little wave and everything. I also liked his red Valentine’s Day tie. There’s something about Stephen’s fascination with King Tut’s Penis that is so amusing. I also really enjoyed the Enemy Within segment. Toddlers tend to scare me most of the time anyway, but watching those out of control tykes was actually pretty scary. The little girl saying “I’m above the law and I know it” was adorably terrifying.

I’d never heard of LCD Soundsystem before about a week ago when they threw a fit when tickets for their Madison Square Garden show were yanked up by ticket resellers and scalpers. After hearing that they’re going to perform as many shows as they can so that every fan that wants to see them will be able to see them, I gained so much respect for this band I’d never even heard of. I really did enjoy their minimalistic neo-80′s beats and tones in their performance of “I Can Change”.

I wish there was a Ben & Jerry’s near me so I could get my free scoop of Ben & Jerry’s Stephen Colbert’s Americone Dream with the purchase of a scoop. But luckily I have a brand new unopened carton of Americone Dream in my freezer that I got at the store this weekend. Will any of you be making the journey to a Ben & Jerry’s store today? Leave it in the comments!

Sephen Colbert Red Tie Pinstripe Suit

  • I love you so much that I got you this show. You’re welcome.
  • Just look at the sparkle in his eye socket.
  • And sure, Occam’s Razor says the simplest answer is usually correct. But fortunately, Glenn Beck isn’t allowed near razors.
  • To him, this situation is understandable. Unlike the tides.
  • Coincidence, you say? I don’t know the meaning of the word. Can we find out what that word means? Okay.
  • And now the penis trail goes cold again, which only makes it smaller and harder to find.
  • It’s not the gays. Good guess, though.
  • Toddlers understand what jail is, they provide excellent testimony, and they’re unapologetic sociopaths.
  • Why walk away from the rock world? You know, retirees get very few honey-dipped co-eds waiting in the wings for them. The groupies are of much lower caliber.
  • Stephen Colbert: You’re not like Bieber at 41, although that is some lovely hair.
James Murphy: I’m now imagining Bieber at 41.

Having a 3.5 and a 4.5 old year old, the toddler segment resonated with me. Particularly the girl just ripping the pages right out of the book…I wanted to go, stop that! Essentially, that segment is my house on the weekends.
LCD was pretty good, after all. I will have to check them out, now that they are retiring.
And how about that Roger Cornsworth! What a rising star.

I have a 7 year old and a 5 year old. I feel your pain! I laughed till I cried over that segment.

  2. Eris says:

Good God he was looking fine! He always comes back glowing from breaks, but this time he outdid himself. It wasn’t just the wavy hair, can’t put my finger on it, but he looked full of vim.

  3. Arkadina says:

I was so excited by 1. the fact that CN was back up and running internationally and 2. that it was the start of new episodes and couldn’t wait until 10.30pm tonight, I decided to watch this one at work this afternoon.

No, no. not a good idea. Too much giggling at my desk…oh no, it’s King Tut’s Penis! Wah-ah-ah-ah-ah-ahhhhhhhh!…while trying not to look like I was giggling, which of course made it worse.

Magnificent hair indeed, and I too loved the heart-red Valen-tie. But can I just register a protest against having [most] musical acts on the show – they deprive me of at least 2.5 of my 22 valuable Stephen minutes!

  4. colbaby says:

I spent the day at the Natural History Museum surrounded by running, screaming, out-of-control children, so I really got a kick out of the Enemy Within.

Six Degrees side note: throughout the museum, Pluto is referred to as the ninth planet. Neil deGrasse Tyson, you need to have a word with your British brethren.

Oh dear god, colbaby. But now you know you can, sue them…sue them all!

[I see the reCaptchas are back! But when can we hail the return of the clicky pop-up 'Meet The Zoner' gravatar thingy?]

  6. Jennie says:

I loved everything about this show – really a fantastic return. But the one thing that really made me loose it was the ‘Glenn Beck’s not allowed anywhere near razors” line. Brilliant.

  7. jbirdNZ says:

Count me in with the parent brigade -two girls -7 and 4, but I have to admit mine aren’t that bad, thankfully, although the 4 yr old certainly does try us…

The Egyptian segment slayed me, from Mubarak to Beck and Papa Bear and the King Tut’s missing penis tie-in, that was worth the wait -athough it’s been a long, long week.

Lord, the hair was indeed amazing! And can someone import Ben and Jerry’s down here? Thank you!

-To him, this situation is understandable. Unlike the tides.

Favorite lines of the night :D. Watching O’Reilly actually be the “voice of reason” against Beck was…strange, to say the least. And then the King Tut thing again-oh, dear. And there’s more to that expected tonight! Should be entertaining, no doubt.

Pretty cool that LCD Soundsystem picked his show for their last televised performance-he seemed kinda honored by and proud of that. Nice, short and sweet interview, James seems like a pretty cool guy, and the song was interesting, too, had a sort of ’80s new wave-y type of vibe to it, a bit.

Also, I wish like mad my town had a Ben & Jerry’s in it. Guess I’ll have to just keep buying the ice cream at my local grocery stores instead :).

So happy to have the show back, very fun episode last night.

I went to a Ben and Jerry’s tonight. I had to go out and where I was going was next door to the “scoop shop” as Stephen calls them. I got my 2 for 1 scoops. They had a big sign in the window that said “Stephen Colbert’s Americone Dream” How cool was that to see!
However, even though I love Stephen and love to help out The Yellow Ribbon fund, their ice cream is a little pricey, so I won’t be able to do that every week.
I loved how when he mentioned the snow in the Northeast, they put up a graphic of a ton of snow in front of a Ben and Jerry’s. I live near Boston and that graphic is pretty close to reality.
I also think it’s great to buy ice cream in the winter because you can leave it in the car for long periods of time.
Also, the HAIR!!!!!!! The wave, I died. Never change it!!

The first thing I said at the top of the show last night was, “Oooo, Stephen’s hair looks so pretty!” I don’t know why I said pretty, but I said pretty. He always looks so refreshed after break, and his hair looked very Daily Show-esque. Needless to say, I’m a fan. :)

We talk a lot about the issue of charging juveniles as adults in my college classes, so I love love loved The Enemy Within. It was so to-the-extreme that it made it absolutely hilarious and ridiculous. And I laughed so hard at the return of Mysteries of the Ancient Unknown! A completely welcome return, if only to get that close up of Stephen’s eyebrows fighting to keep up with the eerie music. The little continued jab at O’Reilly about the tides was satisfying as well.

  11. pkyoubuggin says:

You guys are really into SC’s hair. It kind of reminds me of the Dana Carvey Show, when Dana is playing George Washington as Antonio Banderas, and says “But mostly we go with the ha-ir…”

Shout Out (Hey!): Thumb up +1

    • lockhart43 says:

Yes, it is one of my many weaknesses. :P
If he were to start singing last night with his hair looking like that, I don’t know if I would have been able to function.

Shout Out (Hey!): Thumb up +4

  12. LoveLCDandStephen says:

Hey I’m a huge LCD Soundsystem fan and slightly heartbroken that they’re calling it quits BUT they left behind 3 excellent albums for the good people of earth to enjoy.

I noticed a few comments saying members of the Colbert nation want to listen to LCD Soundsystem more :

Here’s a playlist to get you started

    1. Daft Punk is playing at my house
    2. North American ****
    3. Drunk Girls
    4. Tribulations
    5. All my Friends
    6. Home
    7. All I want
