EPISODE NUMBER: 7019 (February 2, 2011)
GUESTS: Sean Dorrance Kelly
SEGMENTS: Google gets served, Crisis in Egypt, Tip of the Hat/Wag of the Finger
VIDEOS: Wednesday, February 2, 2011
Oh, children, those of you who never had to endure that horrible, horrible paper clip help prompt in earlier versions of Microsoft Office will not appreciate the PTDS I had when seeing that monstrosity on the screen as the spokesman for Bing. Looks like Anderson Cooper’s Tight Black Shirt is being saved for when the situation in Egypt gets *really* bad. I also find it hysterical how Stephen has continued to promote his “Tight Black T-Shirt = True Disaster” theory originally addressed during the Rally to Restore Sanity And/Or Fear. “Until Anderson puts on the tight, black Donna Karan, legally the UN doesn’t send in peacekeepers.” Oh my gosh, ‘Colbert Report’ Middle East Expert Christiane Aman-purr looked so amazingly put out.
Stephen was perfectly justified in his disgust of Smashing Gent Superman being cast with a British actor. Probably because we all know who Superman really is. And all those slams about Britain made me laugh hysterically knowing that Zoner and Colbert Nation Forum C-Section Mod Arrow had flown in all the way from Britain to see the show. I can’t imagine how amazingly skunky nasty that Big Flats beer has got to taste, so kudos to Stephen for actually doing a taste test on the air.
There was something just lovely about Stephen’s K.O.K.O. reference as a metaphor for the meaning of existence during Stephen’s interview with Sean Dorrance Kelly. I also found it interesting how Kelly referenced Nietzsche in saying that sacred was whatever it is that you can’t laugh at. But for me, laughter is sacred. That moment where your head goes back and your body makes that involuntary sound of pure joy is truly sacred to me, and an experience which I actively pursue and even crave. I also think that just because you can’t laugh at something doesn’t mean it’s sacred. I remember hearing Trey Parker and Matt Stone say once that nothing is off limits as far as comedy goes, because once you ban one thing, you ban everything. They even did a whole episode about the issue of sacred vs laughter when the Mohamed cartoon issue was so volatile.
What sacred things do you hold true in your life? And what else did you enjoy about the episode? Leave it in the comments! And don’t forget to vote in the poll!

Oh, Christiane Aman-purr! Cats have a way of looking above just about everything going on around them, and I loved the gradual increase in desperation on Stephen’s part especially that they had pre-organized a range of props to grab her attention. haha!
Loved the interview, I just really wished it could’ve gone longer, I am such a dweeb for the classics. :D

Wonderful to see a Toss, complete with character break on TDS, too! <3
Christiane Aman-purr was gorgeous and displayed all the cattitude one would expect from a cat and yay for Stephen ending up having fun with a cat-toy again.
I know there's a fair bit of woe on the internets over Anderson Cooper being roughed up by Mubarak thugs, but I'm sure he would rather get on with his job and have people think of the Egyptian people first. Mind you, it'll be game on once he shows off those guns in that t-shirt!

DB – I think the first segment was Bing gets served… and yes, I had a similar reaction to you when I saw Clippy. “It looks like you’re writing an episode guide. Can I help?”
Christiane Aman-purr was (pardon me) purrfect – she’s capable of making the prediction, but unlike orangutans, chickens, or octopi, the cat has no need to show off. But why the second set of cat dishes at the end?

You are correct, and it seems as if the Poll Fairy fixed that for me.

Yaaa, a toss … be it a rather silly one … guys, you are out of practice. I suggest you toss more often! … LOL
Christiane Aman-purr was demurrrr … and loved that she didn’t wanted to show off her powers and that Stephen let her fluster him. I sense a giggle-gest ensued!
The Kelly Interview … I hoped for more. DB, I agree with you when you said, “… Kelly referenced Nietzsche in saying that sacred was whatever it is that you can’t laugh at. But for me, laughter is sacred.” Stephen’s joy machine is evidence of this.
Still, the whole episode had silly written all over it … thx!

DB, I agree with you when you said, “… Kelly referenced Nietzsche in saying that sacred was whatever it is that you can’t laugh at. But for me, laughter is sacred.” Stephen’s joy machine is evidence of this.
Also agreed. Well said, both of you :). Nietzsche was kind of a cynical guy, though, as it seems, so…
I’m not a sports person at all, so the sports metaphor is out for me. I just replaced it with music. Being amongst a group of people who are dancing and singing along and enjoying the same music I am, now that’s when I feel some sort of strong emotion. I did like the discussion about the book in relation to religion. And the recommendations at the end: “You know I wrote a book, right?” Hehe.
Add me to those who loved the whole bit with the cat. So incredibly adorable, the name pun was awesome, and watching him try and entice her to her food cracked me up. All I could think of was my sister’s cat at that point :D.
And I also REALLY liked the Blair/Bush joke during the Superman segment, that was good. Especially when he broke into laughter afterward. Leave it to Stephen to get all protective over his superhero stuff.

Christiane Aman-purr was fantastic. My cat probably would’ve done the same thing, (although she probably would’ve bolted a lot sooner with all of those people there.) It was a fun episode.
Bog Flats beer might become popular in college towns. What broke college students will drink, it boggles the mind. My

let me finish my thought (darn internet): My hubby used to drink some of the most disgusting things when his pay checks were almost gone. I’ve heard the horror stories. I’m sure Big Flats may become part of someone’s horrible hangover memories as well. Yuck!

And Stephen goes for the hat trick! Three solid shows, three awesome interviews and three adorable character breaks in a row! And that Toss was fantastic!
Oh, Clippy. How I haven’t missed you in the slightest. When I was in my 7th grade computer class, my friends and I thought it was the coolest time-waster to just keep right-clicking on Clippy so it animates and rides away on a paper airplane. Oh, to be young.
I wish the Sean Dorrence Kelly interview had gone on longer, I really enjoyed their conversation. And like you DB, I do think that laughter is sacred. There is really no way to describe the joy that I get from laughing, and that feeling is something that I hold incredibly sacred. But I did like that Kelly and Stephen talked about sporting events being seen as sacrament to some. For me there are few things in the world that can match the feeling I get going to a basketball or soccer game and being a part of that atmosphere.
Loved that Stephen talking about the new Superman being British. They got sooo many jokes out of that, and it’s always funny to hear Stephen talk in that ridiculous British accent of his. :)

Hello, Kitty! Any fan of felines could have predicted Ms. Cristiane Aman-Purr’s stubborn reluctance–and it was pretty hysterical. Poor, desperate Stephen, shaking the cat dancer and trying every trick in the book to no avail. I’m amazed she was so calm in front of an audience. Mine would have panicked and made a run for it.
They’re just not dogs!

Stephen + animals = The Sacred. I thought Christiane handled herself well. I used to have a cat named Rosy that would have clawed his eyes out before he could even reach for the food bowls.
A Toss!! I cracked up at the way Stephen shook when he screamed, “Make up your mind!!!”
And speaking of TDS, I really appreciated Jon and Kristen Schaal’s segment on rape. I was really hoping Jon or Stephen would tackle that story. It made my blood boil when I fIrst read about it as it’s so horrifyingly offensive. Stay classy, Republicans.

I LOVED the way they handled that issue. Perfect way to point out the sheer absurdity of the situation (boy, the Republicans are just SO endearing right now, aren’t they?). I especially liked it when Jon pointed out that people’s taxes go to things they may not personally support all the time-the “war-Ish” line was absolutely brilliant. Thank. You.
I really hope that stupid idea doesn’t make it any farther in Congress. Ugh (don’t the Republicans have an economy they supposedly need to “rescue” or something? Shouldn’t they be worrying about that instead?).

I’m glad you mentioned the TDS segment, I was so happy to see they covered that. And Kristen Schaal was the perfect correspondent to talk about it, too – she’s got a great sarcastic delivery. I especially love that Jon pointed out how often people pay for things with their tax dollars that they don’t agree with. And his “war-ISH” comment was absolutely brilliant.
And Whoopi Goldberg: “Rape rape?” WOW.

This was me during that one segment:
CAT
IT’S A CAT
KIIIIITTTTYYYYYYYY
I guess I’m a cat person. That or the internet has rendered me defenseless against the sight of any cat (oh my GOD, that was their plan all along!). That cat did NOT look happy.
Loved the bit about Anderson – I knew as soon as he mentioned that something had been damaged it was going to be Anderson.
