Mediaite defines the brilliance of Stephen Colbert on Sarah Palin

Because man, I can’t get enough of talking about last night’s show.

Oh, I have been just jumping-up-and-down excited about Stephen Colbert’s Sarah Palin routine last night! I wanted to hug my television! What a feeling to finally have these thoughts articulated so brilliantly and stated with such seething wit! And what I love even more is that we got to see the Stephen-Colbert-Behind-”Stephen-Colbert” peeking out from behind his character and letting the world see a little bit of (what I think was) genuine anger about the sheer stupidity surrounding the media’s love affair with Sarah Palin. There is something about that man being both funny and angry at the same time that gives me goosebumps. It was the verbal equivalent of watching Batman (“Bam!” “Whomp!” “Pow!”) with Stephen behind the hero’s mask, and Sarah Palin as the Joker. (Or maybe, given her home state, the Penguin?) Yes, we all want to promote love and tolerance and we’re all rallying to support sanity — but every once in a while it’s so nice to see Stephen give a one-two-punch on behalf of those of us who’ve been rolling our eyes and watching the media in near-despair. Thank you, thank you, thank you Stephen Colbert!
Oh, my. I think I may have had a Colbertgasm. That just took my breath away!
(And yes, enormous hugs to the writers! — although I’m still enjoying the possible fantasy that it was pure Stephen.)

I agree with your sentiment completely.

I just really can’t help this nitpick: Penguins are not native to Alaska. Obviously, she’s be “Ms Freeze” for the chill in our hearts she elicits whenever recall how close she was to being first successor to the President.

Hmmm. Didn’t know about the penguin-thing. It may still be apropos, however, in that Sarah Palin doesn’t seem terribly concerned about, um, “natives.” If penguins are indeed immigrants to Alaska, I’m surprised she didn’t erect a wall during her brief tenure as governor in order to keep them out. With her “smarts,” she’d probably erect a wall of ice — and how would she have explained it melting into the ocean, given that she doesn’t believe in global warming?
Ah, I can still hear Stephen’s Sarah Palin routine in my ears — and I could practically dance to it.

    Well said.

I liked how increasingly exasperated he got with each passing line in that speech-I’m not sure how much of that was acting and how much of that was genuine (I’m willing to bet a great deal of it was the latter), but it was really fun to watch nonetheless.

Yeah. I can’t stop babbling about this, either. Last night was FUN.

Last night’s entire show was incredible, but this SP take-down really stood out. It was like a really terrific Word, only without the bullet points. And then they did an amazing Word, too!

Anyone who calls SP an ignoramus and media troll totally wins in my book.

Stephen and the Writers, you rock my world! Well said.
