EPISODE NUMBER: 7008 (January 13, 2011)
GUESTS: Kevin Spacey
SEGMENTS: Hitler’s Inspiring Tucson Memorial Speech, Thought for Food – Fruit Pouch, Doritos Ad & Super Big Gulp, Israeli Vulture Spy,
VIDEOS: Thursday, January 13, 2011
I hope all of you enjoyed this show as much as I have tonight. The Kevin Spacey interview was both funny and biting. I think it took a bit for Kevin to get his footing on this whole “Stephen” character situation, but I do think that overall, the interview went fantastic. I also have no desire for drinkable pretzels, and try not to drink beverages which take two hands and some Pilate classes to be able to lift.
What did all of you think of the show tonight? Leave it in the comments!

A hilarious and bitingly satirical opener, a Thought for Food, and Kevin Spacey?! Ohhh this is gonna be a good episode.

Kudos to Colbert for not using sugar glass in the soda segment.

The “Thought For Food” segment was insane. I love the way this show just goes all out and gets as ridiculous as humanly possible.
And Kevin Spacey was a fantastic guest. I loved the back and forth zings between him and Stephen, I loved the political discussion, I loved watching him genuinely crack up at some of the stuff Stephen said…so good.

Second great interview in a row. At first I was afraid Kevin Spacey was getting a little pissed off, but fortunately he is sharp and has a good sense of humor. So much fun to see Stephen matched with a really bright guest. First the French philosopher and now this.

A fabulous opening that made a perfect companion to Jon’s stinging denunciation of the pundits’ critiques. (If you didn’t see TDS tonight, I highly recommend it.) I do enjoy seeing Jon and Stephen take on the same subject, but in such very different ways.
Kevin Spacey was a great guest, and he and Stephen were just wonderful together. I really got a kick out of their banter and one-upsmanship. At one point it really looked as if Spacey thought he’d managed to render Stephen speechless with one of his zingers–but then Stephen responded with that “picture you naked covered in rose petals” line.
What a satisfying week this has been, between the war of the bands, that amazing Word, and the intervews with both Levy and Spacey..Not the mention the Doritos commercal coverage! Ever since he’s returned from break, Mr. Colbert has been flying high with some of the best shows ever.
Oh, my god the first word in my Recaptcha has TWO words coming out of it in small letters!!! (Mary Masil) What do I do?

Ohhh, that would be: “Not TO mention…”

The “covered in rose petals” line had me in stitches! Stephen is definitely the master of the pithy comeback.

If Doritos are now Communion wafers, does that mean the Catholic Church sponsored Stephen’s presidential run?
On a side note, I think it’s funny that the spell check thinks I’m spelling “Stephen’s” incorrectly.

There’s nothing not funny about Stephen getting attacked by a giant Super Big Gulp. “I created you!!!” HA!
I really enjoyed the Kevin Spacey interview, especially Spacey’s little jab by Stephen about his day job, and then Stephen immediately thinking of a comeback. But as much as I loved the interview, man, that opener was fantastic. Stephen saying he was “moved by Hitler” was an epic piece of satire if I’ve ever seen one. I love this show.

It made me think back to Stephen being attacked by that huge cup of coffee. Mmm, coffee … I could totally go for a cup right about now.

Kevin Spacey!! Kevin Spacey!! Kevin Spacey!!
OMG!! KEVIN SPACEY!!!!!!!

Wow, what a fantastic show! I was so looking forward to Kevin Spacey, and he didn’t disappoint. “That’s your 3rd beef in two minutes!” Haha.
I especially loved his story about who was Keyser Söze. ez, I love that movie, although I love pretty much anything Kevin Spacey’s ever been in. The Usual Suspects is an especial favorite of mine, though.
The Thought for Food segment was great. As Angela pointed out above, it’s so great when Stephen gets just ridiculous with something. Plus any time he eats or drinks on the show is a bonus.
The Hitler/Obama piece was inspired as well. Just great shows this week!
No, *I* am Keyser Söze!
(Blog question: Where is ReCaptcha? I can’t find it. Also, cool improvement is that my name and e-mail address are already filled in. Thanks for that!)

When Stephen said “XTREEEEME baptism” did anyone else think of “Baptiz’d”?

It’s too bad we never got to see “Circumciz’d.”

Wowo! Nice Flashback moment! I thought that too. =D

Oh my, watching the soda pour over Stephen’s suit, shirt and tie made me yell out “AW, NO!” and made my kids rush over to see if I was all right. And fruit in a pouch is nothing new, I know it’s been around NZ and Aussie for some time (although I suspect ours has less additives), I don’t buy it as real fruit is better to eat -even without a hammer!
I’ve been fan-squeeing at the prospect of Kevin Spacey being on the show since I saw he was listed, so between that and Colin Firth on TDS the other day, I’m a very happy camper.
And a random tangent: The clip of Abramoff talking to the mirror in the Gents reminded me of KS dancing in the Gents and playing up to the mirror in the 1994 Dave Stewart “Jealousy” video, the one with Isabella Rossellini. There you go.

Oh, I know–and such a beautiful suit. (Although it did not seem worse for wear; wish there was a taping report to let us know if there was a costume change!)
Well, that should be fun to work into this week’s Fangirl suit report!
