Episode 7006 (1/11/2011) – Chris Hughes

Baby Jesus, please let me find a template that doesn’t cost too much that I can actually make work so that I can actually start creating content again and can stop worrying about things like the fact that I can’t get that #$@&ing Padded Top for the Titles on the blog to not be 22 px. And let the release of WordPress 3.1 happen swiftly. And please let me wake up with the ability to do a graphic in Photoshop that does not take me 3.5 hours to do.

Thank you, [crosses self] Pater noster qui es in coelis, sanctificetur nomen tuum …

While I take some soothing breaths and listen to Gregorian Chant, please talk about tonight’s ‘Colbert Report’ featuring guest Chris Hughes!

The sell out off/fight between Vampire Weekend and The Black Keys was epic!!!! I died laughing.

    • Angela says:

      I. LOVED. That. I quite like Vampire Weekend, so seeing Ezra get so into the fight was hilarious and incredibly fun :D. The Black Keys were great, too.

Also liked Stephen’s mention of the Monkees at one point, that made my mom happy.

      Difference makers: Thumb up +5

  2. TJ says:

I hope everybody’s careful in that gang fight – we all know from Stephen v Jon v Conan that Stephen can do a whole lot of damage (and dance while he’s doing it)!

  3. lockhart43 says:

Vampire Weekend and The Black Keys are absolute, 100% it-getters. That was awesome! Only on this show can that segment happen and seem somehow completely normal. :P

    Difference makers: Thumb up +7

  4. Aaron B. says:

    “I’m gonna cut your faaaaaaaace!”

  5. Toad says:

My married name is Lithuanian (his family came over early 20th century) so I got a real kick out of the perfume sketch.

Shout Out (Hey!): Thumb up +4

  6. somuch2kno says:

Oh, DB, how I love this little retreat you’ve created for us all. And I’m so thankful for the constant care and effort put into tending it. And I know how tired and maxed out you are right now. But… the date on this episode should be 1/11/2011, not 1/7. (Sorry! Otherwise, it’s all perfect. I promise!)

ReCaptch – Boodist woods. Oh, yeah.

Shout Out (Hey!): Thumb up +2

  7. Saphira says:

It was such an awesome episode! Pitting the bands against each other! That set up such an epic fight scene!

Shout Out (Hey!): Thumb up +2

  8. Aisha says:

They could have stopped the episode after the Battle of the Bands and I would have been happy. That’s how awesome that segment was.
(Did anyone else, upon seeing Ezra, think, “You’d better not diss the Oxford comma again, or you can kiss that Grammy goodbye.”)

So many things to love in that segment – the album covers, the dig at Best New Artist, the Biebersquee (and the quick edit after), the dig at Arcade Fire, AND OF COURSE the debate and subsequent gang fight. The way it built up, and the quick subversion of the forfeit and the descent into chaos… I FREAKIN LOVE THIS SHOW.

I do hope Stephen doesn’t get snowed in – I’d hate for Jay The Intern to go the way of Bobby The Stage Manager.

Oh, and the bit about standing on a cliff, throwing money into the sea? HOW do the writers come up with something like that?

    Holy crap that was awesome.

    Difference makers: Thumb up +5

  9. colbaby says:

First of all, Jon’s text message to Stephen was adorable. Wonder if it’s reached his mountain top home yet.

I can’t tell you how hard I laughed at the Grammy segment. Oh my God, Pure win. “Leave some for daddy!”

  10. Mr. Arkadin says:

May I just say, as far as I’m concerned, all the ladies at the NFZ smell Lithuanian to me….. Your welcome! :)

Shout Out (Hey!): Thumb up +2

  11. May I just say that “I mean, who wouldn’t want to smell like a goat slaughtered in a lesbian drum circle” is one of my very favorite quotes, ever. Also, I find it hysterical that Stephen sniffs markers. On a regular basis.

Shout Out (Hey!): Thumb up +2

    • Michele says:

He does love his markers, doesn’t he? And that quote made me laugh too. I really loved the sell out off though. Hilarious!

Shout Out (Hey!): Thumb up +1

  12. llama says:

I was so excited at the start of metunes, it’s been a long time, and it certainly didn’t disappoint. I had no idea just how many ads have their music and you know that these bands are not the only ones to pimp it out. I guess it’s cool to sell out these days.
I missed the text message, I came in right at the end of that part. Have to rewatch that, but thought the John Oliver piece was funny. “I have to move so I can scratch…..CALL FAILED” :-D

Shout Out (Hey!): Thumb up 0

  13. Roseha says:

Yes, that battle of the bands was just hilarious. It could have gone on twice as long as far as I was concerned.

The Lithuanian perfume part was great too.

Shout Out (Hey!): Thumb up +1
