Good news, all you Kiwis who have been missing the ‘Colbert Report’ and ‘Daily Show’ since it was taken off the air. According to Comedy Central’s New Zealand site, the Global Editions of both the ‘Colbert Report’ and ‘Daily Show’ will be featured on Comedy Central New Zealand starting Monday, January 10, 2011!
The shows have been off the New Zealand airwaves since September 2010 when the licenses for that country expired. However, the network started a Bring Back The Shows campaign, asking for feedback from fans of the shows to ask for the return of the shows. On a side note, while the campaign seemed more like an interactive ad project than anything else, it did give the fans hope that the show might return in at least some form or fashion.
And indeed it has! So yay for New Zealand … sort of! Now, if we can only get you guys available to watch the clips for all the rest of the Colbert/Stewart goodness you are missing by not being fortunate enough to have a US IP. Of course, we would never recommend working around Comedy Central’s International web block by faking a US IP address, but it can be done, that’s all we’re saying.
Thanks to Zoner londoner for that IP trick link!
Yay! That’s great to hear, DB! From what I hear, CC NZ has been a dire place indeed without Stephen and Jon.
However I don’t have cable anyway and just go to Colbert Nation and TCR’s site and watch the show that way so I have no problem. And I shall continue to keep wearing my CN red cap -still waiting for someone to recognize a fellow fan…

I’ve never had trouble being able to see clips of either show on the CC website from New Zealand, except for the full episodes. But thanks for the link anyway, it may come in handy.
I’m pretty sure it was Comedy Central NZ’s intention to air the Global Editions this whole time; the online petition was a bit of a joke While I’m not surprised about this, I’m happy we’re getting something, rather than nothing. There are a lot of loyal fans here in NZ who won’t give up until the shows are back in full on our TVs again, as they should be.
Thank you for the update. :)

As someone who doesn’t have cable and has never watched the shows on tv, I have to ask: What is the difference between the regular shows and the global edition ones? Apart from the intro, that is.

Rein, the Global Editions just feature a new intro segment, and a selection of segments from throughout the week. Jon usually does an International MoZ, and occasionally Stephen will also do an outro (not always, though).
Almost time for the GEs in Oz. *waves bye*

Thanks, Tish. :)

Also, the GEs are not censored, so any cursing comes through in unbleeped glory. Which, for whatever reason, I really enjoy.

Oh, that’s great! I wish the official site worked that way as well. I’d love to see the GFY choir without the bleeps!
