Congrats to the writing staff of the ‘Colbert Report’, who have been nominated for the fourth straight year for a Writer’s Guild of America award for Comedy/Variety (including talk) Series. First nominated in 2007, the ‘Colbert Report’ writers won the award that first year out, but lost in 2008 to ‘Saturday Night Live’ and lost in 2009 to ‘Saturday Night Live’/'The Daily Show with Jon Stewart’ (dual winners in 2009). ‘The Daily Show with Jon Stewart’ was nominated this year as well in the Comedy Variety (including talk) series category.

Wait. Saturday Night Live’s been winning writing awards? Excuse me, I think I just threw up a little bit in my mouth. (sorry, DB)

I could only handle them being nominated if it were for “I can see Russia from my house”. Other than that, I can’t imagine which episode since has deserved to win, or even be nominated.

I thought the same thing! Yes, Tina Fey’s Sarah was great (and having her do Palin’s interview word–for-world was a brilliant idea), but that’s it. The writing has generally been lousy.
I don’t think SNL will be the competition this year. Probably TDS, but I think Report definitely deserves to win.

I agree!!! SNL is so hit or miss and it usually depends on who the host is to help them pull off so-so material. Sometimes Weekend Update is funny but I always feel like I’ve heard the jokes before- usually on TDS or TCR as they don’t have a week-long delay in commentary.

Honestly, I stopped watching SNL long ago. In my humble opinion, it’s been the dirge of comedic writing for quite a while.
TCR definitely deserves to win.

Congrats to the Colbert Report writers. My vote for the TCR writer with the best name goes to ……. Opus Moreschi.

I must admit, I have a nerd-crush on Opus.
Capctcha – Coperf premarital (honestly, you cant make this kind of stuff up!)

I must admit, I have a nerd-crush on Opus.
I do, too. But as far as the writers go, my heart belongs to Jay Katsir. He’s so darn adorable. :P

Congrats to “The Colbert Report” and “The Daily Show” on their nominations! I’ll be happy if either one wins (but hey, if “Colbert” and “SNL” could tie, why not have “Colbert” and “Daily Show” tie? Make everyone extra happy).

This would be the perfect outcome right here. I hope they tie!
Or either one of them should win – I’m fine if it stays in the family.

Congrats to the TCR writers and to Stephen! I’m crossing my fingers already!
