Spoiler Alert: I see you driving ’round town with the girl I love and I’m like …

NSFW WARNING!!

The first though that came to my mind when I saw this week’s guest list was “Seriously? Cee Lo Green? How in the world is he going to perform his signature song on the air? ” My second thought was, “Can you imagine a duet with Stephen?! HAHAHAHAHAHA!”

Click through to see the viral video that has made Cee Lo Green a household f***king name. (Also, in case you haven’t seen the video before and don’t know who Cee Lo Green is, I should warn you that this song is seriously, seriously not safe for work nor does it conform to our normal family-friendly standards. Seriously.)

Also, in case you’re wondering how they can perform this on air, maybe they’ll take a tip from William Shatner.

I don’t know how they’ll get around all the salty talk but it is a catchy tune!

I love all three versions of that song. There are the “F**k You,” the “F U,” and the “Forget You,” versions. I prefer the second one better, but I think they’ll play it safe and sing the third.

  3. Rein says:

Please please please comedy gods let Stephen sing with this guy! Preferably the original version, I wouldn’t mind the bleeps but would LOVE an unbleeped version on the site!

I’d never heard CeeLo’s version (yes, it’s not that I live in a cultural backwater, I’m just old), so thank you for the link DB! But I caught The Shat’s version the other day and I was just thrilled to tiny bits. So if Stephen gets to do it -boy, icing on cake!

  5. Karenatasha says:

Oh, I am SO looking forward to this! i think they’ll either bleep or use the F U version. (But then, what about the “s word?” And the “n” word?)

In any case, it should be fun.

I’m very much looking forward to Reza Aslan and Quincy Jones. But Martha Stewart? She’s got to be the most humorless person in the world. It could be hysterical…or a disaster!

Can’t wait to see what they do on the show! Thanks for posting this, ‘cuz I’d never heard of him or this song. Definitely a catchy tune. I’ll probably have it stuck in my head the rest of the day. :-)

  7. Ann G says:

If Cee-Lo and Stephen do a duet with this, I will die laughing. How can you not sing along with this anyway, it’s so danged catchy.

  8. Christiane says:

Hee! A few weeks back I saw someone had tweeted who had been to a taping that Stephen lipsynched this song beginning to end to Paul Dinello between takes. I favorited it but the tweet was eventually deleted. *woe* :)

Oh, that sounds adorkable! This should be fun!

Shout Out (Hey!): Thumb up +2

    • Karenatasha says:

OOH! If he lip-synched the song, that must mean he’s ready to sing…

      *Fingers tightly crossed*

Uh-oh: is that an “s” or a “g” on my recaptcha?

    • Lori Estep says:

Oh gawd!!! I would die to see/hear him sing this!!!

Full disclosure here: I really, really, REALLY love it when Stephen swears! It’s so sexy to me!! (Yes, I know I need help)

Someone mentioned Lily Allen’s song by the same name. That’s a great song too! It’s one Stephen would like as well!!

I know! :D Is it too much to hope that we see the reappearance of Tad soon?

Cee-Lo Green’s going be ton TCR?! That is so awesome.
I’ve loved this song ever since I first heard it, so I’m totally hoping he’ll perform it although, yeah I’m wondering how they’ll get around the song title and chorus. I can’t wait for Tuesday’s episode.

This week’s lineup is really eclectic. Reza Aslan, Cee-Lo, Martha Stewart, and Quincy Jones in one week.
I love it, but I feel like the Booker must have a Potential Guest Randomizer in her office that she spins for inspiration. J/K
It also seems like the guests are becoming higher profile the longer TCR is on, which is great.

I’ve gotta say, I always find myself laughing at songs casually and almost gleefully using the F word. Or any curse word, really (ain’t-that-some-s**t!). Lilly Allen’s “F**k You” makes me giggle like this does.

I can just see Stephen boogying to this. A few signature Colbert dance moves jump to mind.

I’m a fan of “Me and Mr. Jones” by Amy Winehouse for the same reason. That reason being, I’m 12.

  13. Josh says:

Listening to the lyrics, it strikes me that this would be a good opportunity for Stephen to bring up Charlene again.

  14. gentoo says:

This song is hilarious, I think my nephew has been singing it since it was released. And I really can’t wait for this show because I will be in the audience that night. Woot! Fingers crossed for lots of dancing, singing, and general silliness. :-)

  15. ColbertGirl27 says:

Wow, I knew him from This American Life because they once played his less racy song “Georgia.” Haha!

This song is surprisingly friendly and upbeat sounding despite his attitude!

  16. Mr. Arkadin says:

    OMG! That was awesome, DB!
Singing F*ck You would be great. But, I think I’d be just as happy to see Stephen dance to it! :D

  17. Arrow says:

Never heard this song before, but boy is it catchy. :P I would definitely love to see Stephen singing some variation of this!!

  18. Ann G says:

Hah! Since Christiane mentioned above that Stephen lip-synched this to Paul Dinello at a taping, now when it gets to the part where he goes “Whyyyyyy” I mentally add in a “Geoffrey, whyyyyy?” Hahaha… I’m a dork.

And now that I’ve listened to the song this morning, I’m ready to face Monday. Bring it on, Monday, and I’ll just sing it louder!! (Until the men in white coats come to take me away…)

    Difference makers: Thumb up +6

  19. Lori Estep says:

There’s actually a main-stream radio friendly version called “Forget You” . My guess is that he’ll perform that version on TCR. I am SOOOOO excited to see him! I love him!!

Cee-Lo’s singing on Letterman right now. They’re playing it extremely safe. However it’s broadcast TV, and our Stephen is uber-balled, so…

  21. jbirdNZ says:

Oh duh, just saw a pic of CeeLo Green on the Colbert Nation as I watch the latest epi, and I *do* know who he is! Just didn’t know the F*ck You song -or his actual name. Blame Gnarls Barkley.
