EPISODE NUMBER: 6134 (October 25, 2010)
GUESTS: Nicholas Negroponte
SEGMENTS: Indecision 2010 – Revenge of the Fallen – Sean Bielat & Ken Buck, The Word – Midterm Erection, Who’s Honoring Me Now? – The Fangirls

I’ve got to stop eating breakfast while I’m working on the episode guide. I just about choked on my VitaTop when Stephen started rattling off about what we should be voting for. And then I had to transcribe the whole thing, and by the time I got done my VitaTop had gone cold. It was totally worth it, though.
For those of you who may not spend much time over on the ColbertNation.com boards, there’s a special sorority of fangirls on the board over in the “C-Section” who got together to get Stephen the Über-Balled hero awards. What Stephen didn’t share on the show was what was engraved on the Übie: “To Our Über-Balled Hero: Because an army of devoted Fangirls is WAY better than an Emmy – 5 YRS 10-17-2010″ Way to go, fangirls! What an excellent way to honor a fantastic faux pundit. Also? I’m craving Sex-Mex now.
So I wrote that first paragraph, and then kept on eating breakfast as I watched the show. And spit coffee on my keyboard when the “KANYEEEE!” came on. I’m putting down the food now. But oh, weeping montage! I heard once that Paul Dinello said he could watch Colbert weep for hours. Right there with ya, buddy. And yay for the Cheating Death montage, which included my very favorite side effect ever – Mind of Mencia.
I’ve always thought the One Laptop Per Child initiative was an amazing project, but hearing about the project from Nicholas Negroponte, and his passion for getting the computers into the hands of those kids, was really amazing to watch. And yay for new portrait! Love the laurels on the head! The revealing of the new portrait – and the eventual home of the old portraits – is one of my favorite traditions on the show.
What did you love about the episode? Oh, and fangirls (I’m looking at you, Meg, Lori and Arrow)? Feel free to go nuts in the comments – you’ve earned it.
- Folks, come November 2, Republicans are going to take this country back then hopefully lick it so it’s theirs forever.
- And how are Republicans doing it? They’re doing it like they always do, by talking about gay stuff.
- Being gay is just like being short in that both are choices and both can be cured.
- I don’t talk about this much, but I myself went through a short phase. I first became aware of being short at a pretty young age. Seven, eight years old, but through prayer and counseling, I eventually grew out of it. I proved that you can change your height orientation.
- I mean, who hasn’t come home after a long day and relaxed by knocking back a couple of cool tall ones?
- Because if we don’t elect stronger leaders, America may soon go the way of Rome, once the hub of the greatest empire the world has ever known, now it’s basically Detroit made out of marbles.
- Stop acting like weak, spineless, unfit for leadership whatever the opposite of a man is.
- Plus a woman telling her male opponent to man up is just good politics [For 8th Grade Student Council] because, folks, it works.
- Because anyone who has been to a bake-off knows you don’t wear pants. [Helps Display Your Buns]
- In this election, there’s only one poll that matters, only one lever we should be cranking behind that curtain. Vote for whichever candidate has a rock hard, seam-splitting man lance, a steel-trussed load-bearing Dong Quixote the length of a champion summer squash, the girth of a Costco can of chickpeas and an iron core so dense it throws off compasses.
- But the good news is Rupert Murdoch gave Juan a great job over at fox news, so now Juan Williams will never have to worry about seeing Muslims again. Unless he goes to a fox shareholders’ meeting.
- WHOO! WE CONTINUED TO DO IT! WHOOO! ME-S-A! ME-S-A! ME-S-A! ME-S-A!
- I got to say that getting the Colbert Nation five year of excellence award is usually sweet because for the first four years it was won by Jon Stewart. F*ck you, buddy.
- What a beautiful sexpression of sextiment. I should take you ladies out to dinner maybe for some spicy Sex-Mex.
- So right now I am proud to present “The Best of the Top of the Creme of What We Had Time to Throw Together. Get off our backs! For Christ’s Sake, We Are Doing A Really In Five Days!”
- So this could be a murder weapon. No one would suspect it.
- Shouldn’t we give it to the American kids who can fight back against upcoming Uruguayans?

“Who’s Honoring Me Now” was beyond EPIC! … *squeeeeeee*
The Fangirl section of CN was lit up! Hugging and dancing and totally craziness. Wonderful! Well done, Colbert Nation and Stephen’s Fangirls! Well done, Mr. C and his amazing crew for the fantastic five years!

I wasn’t able to chip in for the CN 5 years of excellence award, but I was so happy to see it on the show. It looked great! Excellent job, Arrow and everyone who was able to make that happen. The fangirl trophy was adorable! I didn’t even know about that one.
The Word killed me! It was perfect. I also enjoyed the interview with Negroponte. I love the laptop idea and it was wonderful to hear him talk about it.
And now, I will step aside and let the squeeing continue. :-)

I just can’t even describe how happy and grateful I am that Stephen mentioned both of the trophies I played a part in organising on the show yesterday! We’ve been planning this for a couple of months now (collecting money, sorting our suppliers and art, etc.), and it was just MASSIVE to know that they both arrived there safely and were obviously appreciated! Huge thanks to EVERYONE who contributed, both financially and artistically, as well as to everyone who cheered us on and (of course) everyone who makes up a part of this wonderful fan community! You guys are so amazing, I love all of you to bits!
Also, thanks so much to Stephen and all of the staff and crew of TCR for 5 amazing years! You guys make our community possible with your effort and humor! And a BIG thank you for mentioning our trophies on the show, we’ve been celebrating over at CN pretty much non-stop since the episode aired!
…Also…Stephen actually said SEXELLENCE on air… xD Bestill my fangirl heart!
P.S. I’m sending special thanks to my fangirl sister Lori for all of the effort she put into organising the fangirl trophy! Love you girl!

Oh, and I should probably mention that it was just the fangirl trophy that originated in the C-Section, the crystal eagle “5 Years Of Excellence” trophy was actually mostly organised in the main CN forums. :) Plenty of fangirls contributed to that too, but it wasn’t just fangirls – both guys and girls (and fans of all types) contributed to that one!

Arrow! Baby-girl, I love you too!
Ladies I cant BEGIN to describe the the incredible SQUEE-licious Fangirl high I have been on today! I only slept 2 hours last night, feel utterly spent today, and yet cannot wipe this silly grin off of my face!! I have watched this epic episode again and again today! Wow! It was so great to see the fruit of a collective effort make Stephen smile and maybe even laugh (dare we dream??)
I need to give a HUGE shoutout to Llama on the CN boards for pointing out the latent innuendo in the design of the FG trophy. Well done, lovely!!
And thank you all for the congrats and shoutouts for me today. You ladies, combined with seeing everyone’s effort displayed so prominently on THE show of shows, and the fact that he said SEXELLENCE (OMG OMG OMG) on the air has been massive!!
Stephen is an awesome individual who deserves each and every accolade, award, and fan he has. The simple gesture of acknowledging the citizens of HIS nation (whether we are on CN, NFZ, or Reddit) was truly one of pure appreciation and, in my opinion, affection for ALL of us. The man is EPIC!
It was so much fun planning everything, I’m thinking about next year now. Maybe the the eagle and the balls on the Übie can get bigger each year. LOL

A tip of my hat to you, Arrow and all the fangirls and fanboys who came up with those wonderful awards! <3

Thank you Tish, and massive HUGS to Lori!
Just in case anyone is interested, here’s a full-size copy of the letter that we sent to Stephen and the TCR staff and crew on behalf of the Nation:

(Sorry, I know I’m posting this late, but I honestly didn’t even think about it until just now!)
As I said on the boards, I really feel like the trophy was a gift from all of the Colbert Nation – lots of people contributed and helped make this happen, but I know there are many, many more who would have if they could have! We just wanted to really let Stephen and the staff and crew over there know how much the fans love and appreciate them, and all that they do.

Wow. This episode was mind-blowing in so many ways. I’m so proud that we, the Nation, and especially a few hard-working, super awesome individuals whose names everybody should know, made this happen. Thank you so much! Thanks to the entire Colbert Nation and especially the FG’s! And while I’m at it, thanks to the NFZ and the Zoners for being so cool! And most importantly, thanks to Stephen Colbert and the entire TCR staff for 5 fantastic years. <3

Oh, and of course I loved the montage! The crying, the Cheating Death side-effects, the guitar soloing ;) … it was hilarious. And when the “Kanyeee” came on I too completely cracked up!

That right there? That’s why I watch this show. It made me laugh really, really hard. (No pun intended.) (Okay, maybe a little intended.) Sadly, there are no candidates in my district who meet those requirements. That I know of, anyway.
So The WØRD was awesome, but “Who’s Honoring Me Now?” was even better. I loved the awards — Internet high five to all the CN folks for coming up with those! The fangirl trophy was especially excellent. Or sexcellent. But I also have to say kudos to the editors for putting together the ultimate “Stephen” montage. The weeping! The air guitar! The Vaxa-whatever side effects! It was all so very awesome.
Happy Cinco de Me-o, Stephen!

Love love love the montage. I thought it was great that it was like they made a point of not including the BIG moments in TCR history (presidential run, Baghdad, talking to space, etc), and instead focused on the pure silliness of the show. Focusing on the cake rather than the icing if you will. Even ending it with arguably the MOST randomly absurd moment in TCR history – Stephen defeating the centaur after delivering an epic pun. Love it.

Yep, the montage was MASSIVE! Loved it so much! And as you say, it’s great that it was all about the silliness we adore about the show.
…I like to think that the Minotaur bit at the end was a shoutout to the fangirls. ;D

Ohhh how I loved the montage! Like colbaby, I loved that they focused on the pure silliness of the show, including all of his MANILOW!!’s and STEWART!!’s, as well as all of those hilarious side-effects. My favorite part though had to be all of Stephen’s Sport Report air guitar riffs – I always look forward to those, and I started cracking up when they played them. Also? The Roseanne-esque morphing of Stephen at the end was a nice touch. :)
Now that that’s out of the way, the rest of the show was equally fantastic! The Word had me giggling immaturely (just the way I like it), and I really enjoyed the Nicholas Negroponte interview. I’ve heard of the laptop project before, but didn’t know much else about it. It was great to see Negroponte’s passion, and Stephen’s “So this could be a murder weapon” line was too funny. And finally, big thanks to everyone at the CN boards and the fangirls for the pure AWESOME that was the Colbert Nation Five Years of Excellence Award and the Übie!! I don’t participate in the CN boards at all, so I had no idea those were coming. That was really cool. :D

Loved this episode.
Loved, loved loved the montage. Could have watched that for hours!!!
I also found the title hilarious – The Best of the Top of the Creme de What we had time to throw together. Get off our backs! For Christ’s sake, we are doing a rally in 5 days!
hahaha who’s honoring me now was AAAAmazing! Congrats fangirls!

Way to go C-Section and CN fan-folk! That was just AWESOME!
Oh, the montage -words just can’t describe my joy at watching that. I could also watch Stephen air-play anything for hours. Plus the new portrait, it’s all too wonderful!

Way to go, C-Section fangirls!! That’s SO awesome and that was a great segment — I was grinning the whole time. :DDD Congrats, again, for five years!

Any other show, I would have had to have voted for the interview. I’d never heard of the cause, but it’s great, I thought Nicholas Negroponte spoke about it very well, interestingly, and passionately, and it’s exactly the kind of thing Stephen would love.
But come on. The awards and the montage. Pure, distilled awesome.

Loved the montage so much! I would love it if we could see them more often. The one thing I would have liked to have seen is the original “Charlene” video since I’ve only seen it on the internet. But still, it was great!
I also liked the interview – though I kept wondering – how are the laptops powered? Wifi and solar cells? I imagine. But seeing Stephen and the guest tossing them around was great.

First off I must say that I love the One Laptop per Child. I think that is such a wonderful initiative. If I ever come down off the fangirl high that I’m on right now, plus the rally excitement, I will watch that interview again. It was hard to concentrate on it after seeing the awards that the fangirls and the nation sent.
Over on CN I post as Llama and I’d like to thank mLori for giving me a shout out but all I did was post the picture of the thing, she took the idea and ran with it and STEPHEN READ YOUR NOTE!!!!! They did a whole write up with your trademarked word!!!
So incredibly awesome! It was very surreal to see the awards on the show and I knew all about what went into getting them to that point. Oh man! Love the Nation and I love Stephen and everyone on the show!! Five more years please (grabby hand)
