SEGMENTS: 101-Year-Old Woman Becomes U.S. Citizen, Tip of the Hat/Wag of the Finger, Merch to Keep Fear Alive

I seriously laughed at Stephen’s delivery of the M. Night Shyamalan line, where he held off the audience cheers until the “but here’s the twist, he’s not here” line. Every time I hear the name M. Night Shyamalan I think, “What a twist!” Thanks a lot, Robot Chicken!
You know, Stephen joked about putting eduadvertunities on the tests of children, but I’m pretty sure that kind of thing might already be going on. And it’s sad that I think it might already be going on. Also? Now I’m hungry for Taco Bell. I’m so easily suggestible. Stephen’s diatribe in tonight’s Tip/Wag about how Andy Rooney shouldn’t get caught up in society’s unrealistic body image for 91 year olds made me smile. I also really enjoyed watching Stephen’s character get all architecture critic about the new Islamic cultural center. I half expected him to end the sketch with “I’m sorry, I’ve run out of crap.” But of course, it ended in a way only “Stephen” could get away with – the front is a front for a huge portrait of Bin Laden.
It is way too wrong for Stephen to be so adorkable when he’s shilling. I already have enough problems with being overly suggestible. But they way he said “I have a scream”? Adorkable. Also, I may have to get one of those hats, to add to my fast growing Colbert themed hat collection.
Oh, the interview rocked so very hard. While Stephen has been known to nail people – heck he *is* known for it – he seriously just unleashed on Brendan Steinhauser from the start of the interview when he brought up that the anger built to action after a whopping 32 days. Steinhauser happily walked into everything that Stephen set up for him. The section about foreclosures was just brilliant. Stephen also shushed the audience when they reacted to the comment Steinhauser made about Obama being the far left and the Tea Party being dead center, and I got the impression that Stephen wanted to see how much ammunition Steinhauser would give him. I’m wondering, has Brendan Steinhauser ever even watched the show?
What did all of you think of the show today? Leave it in the comments!
- By the way, that’s Harry with a J. [Jarry]
- So fellas, if you’re looking for a green card, she’s single!
- And now that they won’t be anchor babies, feel free to start pumping those niños out!
- This is great news for kids. Because now when they take home a disciplinary note from their teacher, their parents will say, “Brian, I am so disappointed. I’m afraid I’m going to have to ground you for hey, Mattress Barn is having a half-off sale on bed skirts!”
- I would give anything to sit next to him on a long flight.
- Look at the stunning use of concrete and rusted iron window bars, usually seen only in North Korean strip malls.

I knew I wouldn’t be the only one thinking about Stephen as “Senior Conceptual Art Correspondent” when he started talking about the “Ground Zero Mosque” design. Nice callback, that.
Ugh, Steinhauser was really just clueless, wasn’t he? I mean, to call the Tea Party a centrist party … color me gobsmacked. The audience reaction to that was spot on. Stephen can sometimes be a little heavy on the “Stephen” in his interviews, but last night was perfect; the guest called for it, that’s what.

Yes, it certainly did. :-) Great interview! I love it when Stephen gives them the rope to hang themselves.

That was a beautiful nailing!! I especially enjoyed it because Steinhauser did a fairly decent job of at least trying to debate the Stephen so I didn’t feel the least bit sorry for him, like I do for some of the guests. Perfect! Way to dial it up, Colbert!

Haha, didn’t mean to say “the Stephen,” but I kind of like it and might start using it :).

I thought you meant to do that on purpose. I think I’m going to start using it, too, if you don’t mind, to differentiate between Stephen the actor and THE Stephen the character.

Exactly what I was thinking! :) There’s Stephen, the normal guy, then there’s The Stephen, a completely unique creature and its own species. “Let’s observe how this unsuspecting author handles his encounter with the Stephen in its natural habitat. The Stephen has set its sights on its prey…”

I’ll be honest with you, when I read this, I absolutely read it out loud with a British, Nature Channel accent. :)

Whoa! No idea what happened up there. I was having trouble posting and apparently it posted 3 times. Sorry. Feel free to delete the extras.

If only “resandwichment” could be have been worked into that architecture critic! And I haven’t felt such schadenfreude since Billy Kristol was nailed.

As I was watching the interview, I noticed that after a certain point, Stephen took off his glasses (pure beauty, might I add…those eyelashes…I digress) and just seemed baffled at how deep of a hole Steinhauser was digging himself into.
I felt kind of bad for the guy, but then again, I was a little busy getting lost in glasses-less Stephen’s eyes…so I may or may not have had sappy music playing in my head in slow motion, rendering me useless.
Other than that-great episode!!

“This design has forced an agonizing re-apraisal of my western sociopolitcal aesthetic conceit!”
Brilliant.

The 60 Minutes clips of Andy Rooney cracked me up! And Stephen saying that he would give anything to sit next to Rooney on a long flight was the funniest line of the night for me. The segment actually made me think of a really great Dana Carvey joke where he goes on for five minutes saying things that might be on Andy Rooney’s mind. “My eyebrows are the size of sofa beds…why do they call an orange an orange but they don’t call a banana a yellow?” haha!
I’m so happy “Stephen” went after Steinhauser so relentlessly. I truly love that the audience started laughing when Steinhauser said that the Tea Party was in the dead center, and Obama was the one not willing to compromise. That was such a load of crap. Steinhauser’s comments about foreclosures especially pissed me off, so I was particularly pleased with how Stephen handled that part of the interview.

I’m not an expert in American politics but ITA, with m,y limited knowledge even I found that Tea Party line bizarre. Good for Stephen for getting him.

TIME Magazine has done a pretty solid job of covering what’s behind the Tea Party Movement: http://www.time.com/time/politics/article/0,8599,1964903,00.html
And after all I’ve read about it, it’s still confusing and I still disagree with their message. I do know that they can be a diverse (I use that term loosely) group of people, but you wouldn’t know it from all of the racist slogans and signs of Obama with a Hitler mustache. So IMO, even if they are diverse, they are far from dead center. I guess what I’m saying is, I would be much happier if they just went away, lol. So I really loved the way Stephen handled that interview and just jumped right in whenever Steinhauser gave him the ammunition. :)

Ugh, I’m so tired I can’t even make it through the whole episode. But I do feel the need to say that Stephen looks puuuurty. Love the tie especially. Coherent comments tomorrow, sleep tonight. Looks like I have a good nailing to look forward to (wait, that didn’t come out right!).

I cant believe Brendan Steinhauser kept giving rope for Stephen to hang him… he was making Stephen’s job too easy…
