EPISODE NUMBER: 6119 (September 21, 2010)
GUESTS: Mark Shriver, Eric Schmidt
SEGMENTS: Colbertslist
VIDEOS: Tuesday, September 21, 2010
I love how I would not have had to know Mark Shriver’s last name to spot him as a Kennedy from a mile away. I also find it quite annoying that the rich are so annoyed that they are becoming slightly less rich during the recession, while 10% of America doesn’t have jobs, and 1 in 7 are living in poverty.
Did any of you hop over to colbertslist.com yet? I love how in the “personals” section, there’s just “Men Seeking Women” over and over and over. Hahah!
I literally went “Whoo hoo!” when Stephen made a ‘tall women lifting heavy things‘ reference during the interview with Google CEO Eric Schmidt – it’s my very favorite obscure ‘Colbert Report’ reference ever. My SEO dream is to someday be the #1 search result for “Tall Women Lifting Heavy Things”. I’m on the first page of the search, but it’s not ENOUGH, dammit! I also really did enjoy the interview. It’s nice to see a guest who can find a calm place among Stephen’s frantic energy.
What Stephen Colbert searches have you done today? Let us know in the comments!
- Don’t panic. That wasn’t me. First of all, I haven’t worn my hair like that since I worked at the ‘Daily Show’.
- And, it being Lady Gaga, she had to make it slutty with a single Windsor.
- Who told him about the youth activation?
- Maybe it’s something completely arbitrary. What do you think, pirate squirrel?
- If the poor people had to pay taxes, why would the poor people even want to become rich?
- In fact, I know many people who are now summer homeless. Some don’t even know what catering service their next meal is coming from.
- Isn’t child labor laws the thing keeping our country from being prosperous again? Let’s get those guys back in the factories changing bobbins.
- Is it time to legalize poverty?
- Help the poor, or they will rise up against us.
- Typical liberal Congress spilling secrets – those ads were *classified*.
- By the way, whacking the mole is not something you’re allowed to solicit on craigslist any more. Some whack-a-mole fans here tonight.
- Go to colbertslist.com where we have taken the ass out of classified. Now they’re just clifieds.
- I get to put another notch in my billionaire belt.
- By the way, why don’t I get more hits when I put in “Tall Women Carrying Heavy Things”?
- I guess that was too hip for the room.

Heh, I also loved the ‘tall women lifting heavy things‘ reference! I actually did Google “tall women lifting heavy things”, “tall women carrying heavy things” and “Colbert’s List” today. Thanks Stephen, now Google thinks I’m a pervert!

“Tall women lifting/carrying heavy things” will never not be funny. I don’t know why exactly, but it always makes me laugh.

As soon as Stephen said “tall women lifting heavy things” I started cracking up. Seriously, one of the most obscure references ever. Also, the pirate squirrel was pretty good.
Hee– if you go to Colbertslist.com and click anywhere on the page, it takes you to the “Keep Fear Alive” page. See, it’s little things like this that make me laugh.

For some reason my favorite thing from last night’s show was Glen Beck’s notion of “youth activation” The first thing in my mind’s eye (I don’t know why) was of Stephen & Jon standing together on stage like they were the Wonder Twins using their powers to active the youth!
I know. I should get out more often. :)
I liked the interview. But, I really did want Stephen to question Schmidt about Google & Verizon joining force and possible endangering net neutrality. It something I don’t fully understand & I would have like to hear Schmidt defend in to “Stephen.” Of course “Stephen” would want “the net” to pick a side because we’re at war. ;)

Loved the return of the blue-striped tie! It’s one of my faves. He sure has been sporting some mighty fine ties this week. But anyway. Is it just me, or did Stephen sound a tad like Myron Reducto from Harvey Birdman during the “youth activation” bit? I loved the pirate squirrel, so thanks to the prop department on that one. :)
Y’know, I must not have paid attention to Mark Shriver’s last name, because I had no clue he was a Kennedy, even though I should have been able to see the resemblance. BUT, I do distinctly remember saying to myself last night, “Wow, he’s got some Bobby Kennedy hair goin’ on.” Ha! Guess there’s a reason for that. ;) And I enjoyed the Eric Schmidt interview. It was nice that Schmidt was able to keep up with “Stephen” and confidently get his message across.

You’re not a bad fan. There’s a reason why it’s my favorite obscure reference – because it is, in fact, obscure. A few times, in 2006, when Stephen would show his Google search history, for some reason “tall women lifting heavy things would show up.
