OMG, did they kiss on the lips???
Do they know each other or is she just a fangirl? I mean I can understand it, if I would have been in her shoes, I would have jumped him.

Yes Maia, absolutely with you there, girl. If you’ve got the chance to plant one on Stephen, you may as well make it a full-on smacker!

Jane Lynch was from Second City so maybe that’s how they knew each other.

Oh, thanks for the info. That might be the reason.

Yep… Jane was in 2nd city. I know that she and Carell are pretty close as well. Carell’s wife suggested that they have Jane in the 40 year old virgin as the manager.

Stephen and Jane Lynch, two of my favorite people in the entertainment field.
Isn’t she gay? Maybe that’s why she felt she could get away with planting one:-)
DB, thanks for moving the recaptcha above the send button.

Laura – she did thank her wife… so I’m guessing she might be. ;p
I’ve never seen Glee (not on telly here) but I’m a long-time fan of Jane Lynch and always thought she deserved more limelight. So glad to see her win this.
And how funny that Stephen calls Tom Hanks on Bosom Buddies. I distinctly remember that show first showing on TV and have to admit, it was pretty funny for a while. And I thought I was the only one
Now… will someone please let me know who I can type greek letters for the recatcha. I’ve got pi-alpha-upsilon-tau-alpha conabled? Time to hit that recycle button!

Yes, Jane Lynch is gay, and has been out about it. She’s fantastic, and I’m so glad Stephen got to give her the award. When she mentioned Chicago, I wondered if she came out of Second CIty, and DB’s confirmation makes sense. I bet they know each other. I’d love her on the show–him as his character, her as he GLEE character. That would be a blast!
About his presentation: I think we tend to forget that Stephen never really did standup comedy–he did narrative sketch comedy, almost always inhabiting a persona. So I don’t always think awards bring out the best in him, because the quick joke is less his forte than the creation of an entire, richly developed situation. Jon of course did do standup, so I think when he and Stephen are together, it works very well.

I also loved how Tom Hanks mouthed back to Stephen, “I love you, man.” Not only is Tom Hanks one of my favorite Hollywood people, but now he can also been deemed an It Getter. Awesome.

You’re welcome! And yeah, the ReCAPTCHA thing has been a thorn in my side since installing this new template. So glad to finally have it fixed!

As far as the kissing thing:
I know that Jane Lynch was in the same touring company at Second City as Greg Holliman, so I’m betting that Stephen knows Jane from that far back. Jane was also in the Real Brady Bunch in LA, which also starred Andy Richter, who also runs around with Stephen on occasion, so it’s entirely possible and even probable that they are old friends from way back, just like Paul and Amy.

Jane and Stephen, two of my favorite people! And the voice of John Hodgman, another one of my favorite people! :D

And how sweet was it that Tom Hanks mouthed, “I love you” to Stephen. Truly sweet to see after their on stage kiss last year. *sigh*
How great it is that Jane thanked her wife and her little girl. I too haven’t seen Glee but perhaps I will seek it out along with a polyester track suit.
Thanks for the footage!! Yaaaaaa!!!

Still bummed about the Academy’s decision not to award a well-deserved Emmy to The Colbert Report last night, but I did like this presentation. And the photo of Stephen and Jane Lynch on this page is maybe my favorite photo from the show so far (no offense to the radiantly lovely Evelyn).

Ok, I’m gonna be the one to say it. I thought Stephen’s presentation was underwhelming. I guess I’m just so used to him having Jon there to banter with. :(
But I guess it’s better than nothing.

Well, I’m a big proponent of the idea that Stephen’s hilarious in his own right. I like seeing him and Jon together, and award shows afford a rare opportunity for that when both men attend, but I think that the two are very much more than simply a “package deal” with one another.
Personally, I like this presentation much more than the one that Stephen and Jon did that year at the “environmentally friendly” Emmys.
Stephen made me grin; it was a big “win” by my estimation.

Eh, meh. Having just watched Stephen’s presentation, I must admit to being slightly underwhelmed too. It just seemed a little…forced.
But it’s still Stephen, after all. I think we’re just a little spoiled by the glorious quality of The Report and the rest of the Colbert canon!

You’re right. Sadly, it was underwhelming. :(

Yes, but it was APPROPRIATELY underwhelming! He’s presenting the award to someone else, so it’s her time, and generally people don’t like to hear the presenters talk a lot anyway. I still think “Many of you look lovely tonight” was a pretty great line :).

Jane Lynch is a Second City alum? Ah, that explains her brilliance. I’d like to see her on TCR, either as herself or as Glee’s Sue Sylvester. Actually, as both -she can have two segments!
