In just about 20 minutes, coverage of red carpet arrivals at the Emmys will begin, and so will a marathon evening of TV watching, for some of us. I know I’m looking forward to seeing Stephen looking sharp in a tux, and I definitely hope to see him onstage accepting an award later in the evening! I’ve got a couple of quick links to get us started:
- Nikki Finke at Deadline Hollywood posted a spoiler alert earlier today about Stephen’s role as a presenter: “…[H]ost Jimmy Fallon will be teaming up with Kim Kardashian, Amy Poehler, and Stephen Colbert to present several categories. The trio are being called ‘Special Presenters’ since they’ll individually pair up with the NBC Late Night funnyman.” No clue as to what Stephen and Jimmy will be doing together, but I’m expecting it to be funny!
- The Envelope‘s Gold Derby blog at the LA Times thinks Conan O’Brien might very will win the Outstanding Variety, Comedy, and Music series award. If he does, that will stop the Daily Show juggernaut that has monopolized the award for the past seven years. But, they add: “‘The Colbert Report’ just won best variety writing there [the Creative Arts Emmy awards], and, in the race for best series, it’s overdue to beat the show from which it spun off in 2005. In that series contest, ‘Colbert Report’ gave Emmy judges a doozy of an episode, too — the one where Stephen Colbert goes to Iraq to entertain U.S. troops and gets a surprise visit via satellite from Barack Obama.”
I have my doubts about Conan’s chances to win the category — he submitted his final episode of the Tonight Show for consideration, and while that was a powerful and funny hour of television, I don’t think it outranks the consistent hilarity of the Report. I love Conan, but I think Stephen and Team Colbert have a very good chance to win. (Disclaimer: I may be just a little biased.)
Also, for those of you who are really into watching the full Emmy experience, you’ll be able to catch backstage action from a variety of webcams placed throughout the Nokia Theatre. You can catch the live streaming video at Emmys.com, NBC.com, and Ustream.tv. (h/t wren)
Good luck Team Colbert!
No offense to Jimmy Fallon, but I’d much rather see Stephen and Jon present together. Though I’m sure it’ll be funny none the less.
Fingers crossed for tonight! This is the year. I can feel it.

I agree with you about Conan. While I like him, and I was on his side in the whole NBC kerfuffle, there’s no way he was better than Stephen. And certainly not better than Stephen in Iraq.
Now I’m nervous…

I think your so cool for effortlessly using the word “kerfuffle.” :P
And your right, there’s no way Conan was better than Stephen in general or Stephen’s Iraq shows in particular.

Haha! I strongly support the use of “kerfuffle” in conversation.
I agree – I really want Stephen to win.

I still think the award comes down to TDS and TCR, at least that’s what I’m telling myself to make me less nervous. I love Conan, but I’d rather see him win next year for his TBS show if it’s good, and I would be REALLY mad if SNL won.
I’ve got my eye on all the red carpet shows…..waiting for Stephen!!! So excited. Jimmy Fallon looks so nervous it’s adorable. I can’t wait to see what they are gonna do.

Thanks for the links, Ann – I knew I could count on the Completists for Emmy info.
I love Conan, but I think his best Tonight Shows were after he knew he was outta there and had nothing left to lose.
It seems as if giving the Emmy to TCR is a way to recognize the troops in Iraq and Afghanistan, which is why Stephen took the show there. Besides, how can you turn down a man with the uberballs to have the Commander in Chief order you to get your beautiful hair shorn on national television?
Colbaby, I absolutely agree that Jon & Stephen should co-host the Emmys; I wonder if we could start a Facebook campaign? It worked for Betty White and SNL!

Jon and Stephen co-hosting the Emmys? That is a brilliant idea! I feel like they would both feel more comfortable there, since being surrounded by TV people is more their environment than, say, the Oscars. :)

I love Conan, but damnit, TCR deserves it this year. Every single person who works on the show deserves that Emmy. And as much as I love Jon and the TDS crew, I think TCR was stronger this year. Plus, who better to upset Jon than his best pal?
Ohhh I’m so excited for tonight I can hardly stand it! Thanks for the links, Ann – I do love seeing Jon and Stephen present together, but after Stephen’s great interview with Jimmy Fallon earlier this year, it’ll definitely be fun to see them present together too.

Ladies…..
hehehe. No Tux this year darn it, but he still looks great. So charming, as always. He didn’t do anything with Jimmy, but I am wondering if he’ll be back later to introduce Variety with him like Amy Pohler did. Maybe we’ll get to see him sing! *crossing fingers*

I am watching the backstage feed and Stephen was in the green room until he went out and presented. That was great. Instead of seeing people onstage that I am not interested in, I got to stare at Stephen!
I can’t see the show live cuz I don’t have cable but this is actually kind of interesting to see what’s going on everywhere else. I’ll catch all the videos later online.
GO TCR!!! This has to be the year!!!

Laura, what cable? It’s on NBC (I don’t have cable, either).

I don’t have anything- cable, satellite, antenna- only internet.

Stephen presented! Weird to see him up there without Jon, sadly.

RATS! RODENTES!!
I’m happy for Jon & TDS, I am. But, well, … AAAAAARRRRRRGGGGGGHHHHH!
Sigh.

And TCR gets shafted again. Does that show have to bring about world peace to finally get a freaking Emmy for Outstanding Variety, Music, or Comedy Series?

lockhart i was just saying the same thing! it’s simply ridonkulous. of course tds is a great show and everything, but it would have been so RIGHT for TCR to win.
boo hoo.

Well hey, if there’s any show that could, it’s TCR. :D

Lockhart I totally agree with you. What does Stephen and TCR staff have to do to finally be honored with the Emmy for Outstanding Variety, Music or Comedy Series. I mean he went Iraq, put on an awesome show, and they still don’t recognize that. I guess we should just be happy that Stephen and TCR won for best writing. I’m happy for Jon and TDS but it still urks me, that Stephen didn’t win for best show.
Shout Out (Hey!):

my infinitely classy reaction to TCR getting shafted AGAIN for best show was to yell the f-word as loud as possible.

Oh for goodness sakes, what does a guy have to do to win the Emmy for Outstanding Variety/Musical/Comedy Series?? He went to a war zone for crying out loud! That said, TDS rocked this year too, so congrats to them. Now they both have shiny new Emmys to show off.
Anyone know where Jon’s at?

I really liked their little intro, because Stephen was nice enough to show off the whole crew instead of just show a clip. I was so feeling it this year, but oh well…..I love The Daily Show so I’m still happy, just not AS happy. Frankly, I would have gone nuts if TCR would have won. I’m just imagining how cute he would have been too!
Shout Out (Hey!):

I really loved their nomination clip, too. It was really nice to show off the whole crew while adding a hilarious ending, of course. :)
Don’t get me wrong, I’m happy for The Daily Show. That show helps keep me sane. And I know I’m not supposed to care because it’s just a stupid award. But if anyone earned that award this year, it was Stephen and the TCR crew. BUT, they did win for writing, and that still makes me super happy!
By the way, remind me again why they felt it necessary to put the awards for a Variety, Music or Comedy Special in the telecast, but Outstanding Writing for a Variety, Music or Comedy Series gets shoved into the Creative Arts Emmys? Some things just don’t make sense. Sorry, I’m done now, lol.

TCR got robbed for the gazillionth time. I am sad. D:
And where is Jon? This makes me worried…
Shout Out (Hey!):

look, I am sorry, this is not meant as a knock against Jon, but that Glenn Beck episode they submitted was not better than Stephen in Iraq.
FFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFF…oh I forgot we can’t swear here.
Lockhart-I think you are right, Stephen will have to produce God himself to restore peace to the world, in order to win the Emmy for best show.
At least they got the writing one, but FFF, oh yeah. sorry. They should’ve won.
Shout Out (Hey!):

I hope Jon isn’t under the weather or something…
I feel so sad for Stephen because it really seemed like his best chance ever but my second reaction, after “NO!” was “Typical Emmys!”
And it is because they like nothing better than to award the same shows over and over which makes me wonder how much they really watch.
Well awards are only awards and we know how great Stephen and the Report are. Nothing has changed.
Shout Out (Hey!):

I will say though that the singing bit to introduce the Variety category that Stephen and Jimmy did together was both hilarious and adorable! I was hoping they would get Stephen to do that.
Shout Out (Hey!):

ARGHHH!!! I was just watching the backstage feed too, and for like half a second I thought the TDS theme song was the TCR theme song, because it’s the weird Emmy band version and they kind of sound similar anyway… but then I realized it wasn’t and they hadn’t won :( :( :(. Honestly! What would it take?!?!

You know what I noticed is that there isn’t any photo’s of Stephen on the Red Carpet. I’ve seen pics of him presenting but none of him on the red carpet. Maybe its still early, and there will be some up tomorrow.

I’m wondering if, because he was such an early presenter, he had to forego the red carpet pics this year? I was able to get a few pics of him presenting and posted them as an Eye Candy post.
