I know a lot of us were really thinking it would be Stephen’s year this time around, and I’ll confess to some (personal) soreness of the heart when I consider that The Colbert Report has been passed over again. But I’ll extend a sincere congratulations to Jon and his crew, since they’ve succeeded brilliantly at the incredibly difficult task of maintaining the public’s attention and love. (And I very much include myself in that category.) Well done, gang.
And, Stephen, and everyone at The Report: we love you, we appreciate you, and we can’t wait to see what you’ll bring us in the next year. Thanks, guys, for everything.
I’m saluting Stephen and everything that the folks at The Colbert Report did this year by featuring what was, for me, the highlight of the episode they submitted for Emmy consideration and a true measure of Stephen’s devotion to the troops:
One last thing: my emotions right now? Kind of summed up by Stephen’s face here.
EDITED TO ADD: Okay one more thing — Stephen’s a real gentleman. He posed for this fan pic just after The Daily Show won its Emmy. A tip of my hat (and a big virtual hug) to you, sir.
Awww, Stephen. That’s wonderful that he posed for that fan photo. That speaks to what DB was talking about in her talk earlier today about how Stephen is so gracious to his fans.
I’m sorry, but this was supposed to be Stephen’s year. I’m honestly disappointed by this. :(

G@d Dammit! This sucks! Sucks! Sucks! Sucks! How many times (in a row) does TDS have to win this award! This is at least the 3rd emmy Stephen’s been screwed out of! (TCR’s debut season, the strike season, & now!) Never again I’m I watching this worthless show again!

Yeah, I agree with you Mr Arkadin, it really totally sucks. TDS has now won 7 years in a row. Stephen and TCR have been screwed out of an Emmy again. And I really thought this was the year we were going to win best show. I’ve said this before, I really hate the Television Academy voters.

I’m sorry but the Daily Show winning again? That sucks!! It should have been Colbert or Conan

Congrats, TDS :). You’re awesome and I’ve loved you for over a decade and you do absolutely fantastic work. But sorry, that one was Stephen’s. *Sigh* Bedtime.

I was rooting for TDS but I totally expected TCR to win. And I feel sad for them, too. At least it wasn’t Conan or Maher or SNL (although I like Conan, as well).
At least it stays in the family?

Oh that photo of Stephen posing with the fans after Jon won makes me feel so good Ms. I. Thanks for finding that!
Maybe Stephen will win next year when we don’t expect it!
Stephen is so gracious. We don’t need an award to tell us that.

Congrats to The Daily Show! As much as I wanted Team Colbert to take this one (and as much as they seriously deserved it), winning EIGHT years in a row is definitely saying something. And I do think Rory Albanese did a fine job speaking on behalf of the TDS crew. Though it would have been better to hear Stephen speaking after a TCR win. Anyway.
Stephen and the TCR staff – I still love you. Now let’s go gouge the Emmys eye’s out with a broken broom handle!

I’m so sad that Stephen and TCR crew didn’t win. That sucks, I really thought it was going to be their year.
Yay for TDS, but… *sigh*
That fan pic made me go, “Awww…”

I’m terribly disappointed. This was truly their year, and yet again, they got snubbed. I really don’t understand why they shouldn’t get credit where credit is due. Maybe the voters just can’t take satire in an illustrative format…or maybe they’ve just been hanging around Hollywood too long and forgot what amazing talent looks like. Regardless, as much as I love The Daily Show and understand they also work extremely hard at what they do and are also deserving of recognition, I can’t help but feel like they’ve had their time in the sun. It’s time that The Report had theirs.

I really thought this was the Report’s year!
Oh well, if Stephen can’t win, I’m glad it was TDS. I do love Jon’s show *almost* as much.

I’m comforting myself by saying over and over: at least it wasn’t Saturday Night Live. Or Conan (sorry, but while I like him lots, this was not the year he even came close to deserving it).
And I do love Jon and TDS.
But lots of things pissed me off about the Emmys.
I missed Stephen’s presentation (but not the song with Jimmy Fallon), as I came home late, but I have it DVRd. Was he seen at all on the Red Carpet?

Nope, unfortunately no Red Carpet interviews to speak of. I endured almost 2 hours of Red Carpet monotony for nada. Such a huge bummer.

That’s really sad, he would have deserved it, if only because the Iraq special.
The weird thing is you can’t really be angry, because he lost against Jon……..again:-)

Well, I guess this is the year I realise that TCR is never going to beat TDS. Such a shame. Do only the writers vote for the writers award and everyone votes for the best comedy/variety award? It would explain a lot.

:( I thought this was Stephen’s year, though I was thinking Conan might get it in a show of solidarity. I don’t know what the TCR team has to do to win this. Jon is great, but just as I wrote last year, TDS is now pretty much him behind a desk pointing out Fox/Far Right hypocrisy. I’m glad he does it, but Stephen does so much more. I’m really sad about this. I think Londoner must be right, looks like TDS has some unbeatable lock on the prize.

To me there is only one solution. Stephen needs to reassemble his crack commando team of Killer, Rick Ocasek and Bobby to go and steal Jon’s emmy.

Oh Jon, please use your Emmys to ‘heal light wounds” of the TCR fans as we really felt Stephen deserved it this year. /DnD reference
(I can’t help it, whenever I see Jon hold his Emmys like that, all I can think of is the green screen challenge http://www.colbertnation.com/the-colbert-report-videos/76294/october-04-2006/green-screen-challenge—d-d)
