In just two days, we’re going to have what we at No Fact Zone like to consider one of the high holy days for the Colbert Nation – the Emmy Awards! This year, the ‘Colbert Report’ is up for the Emmy for Outstanding Variety, Music Or Comedy Series which will be presented during the Primetime awards, and Stephen Colbert is also one of the presenters during Sunday’s festivities. We here at No Fact Zone will also be covering our fourth Emmy show, complete with red carpet photos, videos, news snippets, and the latest scoop about the awards distributed. You can check out our previous Emmy coverage by perusing the topics on the No Fact Zone Emmy tag.
Here is some news you can use to get you prepared for the show!
Set your TiVo, kids!
- The Creative Arts Emmy Ceremony will air as a two-hour special on Friday, August 27, at 1:00 p.m. (ET/PT), on E! Entertainment Television.
- The E! Entertainment Television broadcast of Ryan Seacrest Live from the Red Carpet will start on Sunday, August 29th at 5p ET/ 2p PT.
- The 2010 Emmy Awards will be broadast on Sunday, August 29th at 8p ET/5p PT on NBC. You can also check out the Backstage Live feature on Emmy.com to see winners do their post-Emmy win interviews.
Who thinks Stephen Colbert should be honored now? The New York Times!
- The TV Watch blog over at the New York Times has a thought about the Emmys that has been rolling around many of our heads ever since Conan’s late night show was nominated for this year’s Emmy awards:
Television is on a creative roll, but for some reason the Emmys have slumped into Brezhnev-style stagnation, with the same shows winning the top honors year after year. … However deserving those shows may be, “again” is not the most exhilarating word in awards-show language. So it would be fun if this Sunday newer offerings beat out the favorites.
…
The rule that newer shows need a break should be bent in one case: Conan O’Brien’s ill-fated stint as the host of “The Tonight Show” wasn’t the best of the year, by a long shot. His nomination for outstanding variety, music or comedy series is a little like President Obama’s Nobel Peace Prize — political, premature and meant mostly as an affront to his predecessor. “The Daily Show With Jon Stewart,” which has won that Emmy the last seven years, was much better. But so was “The Colbert Report,” which hasn’t won yet and therefore deserves to this year.
Where’s Waldo Stephen?
- The Huffington Post has a very interesting article about seating charts at the Emmy Awards, and how people are picked to sit in different spots. They also posted pictures of the proposed seating for this year’s show. In this picture, I’m not for certain, but I feel fairly sure that Stephen Colbert will be getting an aisle seat this year. Click through the picture to see the full resolution copy.
h/t to the Meet Michael Emerson fan blog, who brought the article to my attention by pointing out where Michael Emerson (Emmy nominee from “Lost”) will be sitting

Thanks for the info, DB! I already set my VCR this morning to record the Creative Arts Emmys, and will be watching them when I get home from work. And as for the Emmy Red Carpet, if Ryan Seacrest interviews Stephen, I’ll have to either record all of it and fast-forward to Stephen’s interview later, or just wait to find the video online. I seriously cannot stand Ryan Seacrest – his voice is grating to my ears.
Good luck to Team Colbert on Sunday night! I can’t wait!

Dang, you have way better eyes than I do. I looked at that Emmy seating picture last night and never saw where Stephen was.

Darn! I forgot to set the DVR for the non-prime time Emmys. Maybe they’ll show it another time, too.
And you DO have good eyes! I’d have missed it. Did you find Jon?
And WHY does Steve Carrell have a better seat than Stephen? This is not Even-Steph(v)en!
Glad I copied my post before trying to send–once again the wavy letters of ReCaptcha got me and I typed it in wrong.

Grrrr … work is seriously thwarting my intentions to take the occasional Colbert-break lately. At least the Hartford Courant described some of the writers’ montages from this year’s nominees — that’s probably as much info as I’ll get, unless (until?) they show up on YouTube.

Thanks for all this info! And I second the kudos for your good eyes – I couldn’t find Stephen in those pictures either…and I tried, believe me! Can’t wait for Sunday night!

Latest Stephen tweet reported on Celebritweets:
“My two Emmys are getting along so well, I think one of them might be pregnant” –Stephen Colbert, who is clearly vying for another Emmy so that the Mama and Papa Emmys will be happy
Funny! But doesn’t Stephen have more than two? I’m sure he got a few as a writer for TDS.

I missed the Creative Arts Emmys. But I’m sure someone’s gonna post all the Colbert related parts? Pleeeeaaase? :D
I’m so excited for the Emmys! GO FAKE NEWS!!!

I recorded the Creative Arts Emmys yesterday so that I could watch them when I got home from work, and it’s a good thing I did – the Best Writing win is right towards the end of the show.
The nominee clips were hilarious, yet again – like Ms.I’s link said, TCR showed clips of couples in gay weddings and the writers were depicted as each couple. Then at the end of the clip when they say Stephen’s name, it shows him getting married to himself, with a third Stephen marrying them, ha. In their acceptance speech, Tom Purcell spoke on behalf of the writers and said that Stephen couldn’t be there because he was out “picking crops.” So he must have been out in the field for the Take Our Jobs campaign that night. :P

That’s awesome, I would love to see that! I’m sure a vid of that will be up on youtube soon… :)
And now I’m excited for the Take Our Jobs piece.

The Emmys start at 7 am Monday on my part of the world. Coincidentally we also have a holiday on Monday so no work! Yay! I hope I get to wake up early to catch all the red carpet action and of course, the main event. Or I can catch the primetime telecast at 8 pm. I hope I get a glimpse of Jon and Stephen and Steve and Ricky and everyone else. :D

I love Monday holidays. I remember it was also a holiday when Jon hosted the Oscars back in ’08. Do you know which channels would air the live telecast?

Yes, three-day weekends FTW! :D
The only channel I’m sure of is Velvet. Not sure if ETC is covering it as well. But I seem to remember that Star World usually covers these events as well, but I haven’t seen an ad for it. :-s

Ah I see… thanks for the info! =)
I hope I can wake up that early, haha.

Awesome! I was so caught up this week in my Report/love taping hangover that I completely forgot the Emmy’s were this weekend! I think it’s a bit earlier than in previous years as well. Thank you for the reminder–my DVR is SET!
