Stephen Colbert honors returning troops with two special episodes

Hot off the presses from the Associated Press, here’s some news about special episodes Stephen Colbert has planned for the troops returning from Iraq:

Colbert to honor troops returning from Iraq

Stephen Colbert is dusting off his camouflage suit.

The comedian will broadcast two special episodes of Comedy Central’s “The Colbert Report” to celebrate the end of combat operations in Iraq and to honor returning troops.

On Sept. 8 and 9, the show will fill its audience with Iraq War veterans and active duty service men and women. Others will be beamed in via satellite from Iraq, Afghanistan and the Walter Reed Army Medical Center in Washington, D.C.

“The Report,” which likes to parody over-the-top cable news graphics, is calling the episodes “Been There: Won That: The Returnification of the American-Do Troopscape.”

Good for you, Stephen. It’s time to welcome these men and women home.

Huzzah to Stephen and the crew at TCR for always finding a way to honour the troops. I’m looking forward to this one, certainly.

MsI – you may want to add a word of warning about the video you linked to… it’s so full of pure joy and love but I don’t recommend watching this at work.
I started sobbing about 20 seconds into it and didn’t stop for the full 10 minutes. (It’s genetic – my whole family bawls during any Olympic medal ceremony.) Great find!

I guess that vid is kind of the definition of “tear-jerker”, isn’t it?

All I know is, I’ve been going through a really soul-deadening phase at work lately (lots of hours, lots of demands, lots of pressure, very little in the way of thanks or other expressions of appreciation), and watching it made me feel human again.

Didn’t make it past the first 20 seconds, either. I’m not at all a weepy type, but I am a parent. I am so grateful I can hug my son any time I want.

I’m not sure I even made it through the first 20 seconds. I had tears running down my face through the whole thing. It also snapped me out of the self-absorbed funk I’ve been in for the past few weeks, because it was a good reminder of what’s really important in life.

I wondered, why all the comments about crying? I don’t remember a particular Stephen moment that made me sob. So, then I clicked on the link.

Oh, this video. Immediately crying at my desk at work. And still sniffling. Thanks, Ms. I. I love this video.

This sounds like it is going to be some amazing shows. It’s always so wonderful when Stephen reaches out to the troops.

Oh, this is so fantastic! I love Stephen’s dedication to supporting the troops. I’m so glad he and “Stephen” agree on this!

This quote is poignant, “Sometimes,” Colbert said earlier to The Associated Press, “my character and I agree.”

  9. Laura says:

I watched it this morning. I was crying as soon as the first little girl saw her dad. Then I posted in here about it but it was lost due to me again forgetting to recaptcha. (RECAPTCHA!!! ****shakes fist****)

I was going to send it along to my sister, but then I remembered her non-military husband is going on a volunteer mission to Afghanistan in a couple weeks. I think I’ll wait til after he gets back.

So…does this mean that Stephen will be wearing his special camo suit? I love that suit. Also, he said Gen. Odierno will be on the show. Hey, General…don’t touch Stephen’s beautiful head of hair. Please!

Shout Out (Hey!): Thumb up +1
