Six Degrees: Jon Stewart Interviews George Lucas at Stars Wars Celebration V.

“A long time ago in a galaxy far, far away … ” ok it was actually last Monday in a Orlando’s Orange County Convention Centre, where Jon Stewart sat down to interview Star Wars creator George Lucas infront of 3000 enthusiastic fans, and was also given a very special present by the man himself.

The interview covered all many of Stars Wars related topics and gave Jon a chance to geek out and show off his impressive Star Wars knowledge. In the pre-event post conference Jon talked about how he first saw the saga and how he rediscovered it through his children:

Stewart saw the original Star Wars during its theatrical release in 1977, but it was the rediscovery of the saga through his children’s eyes that made him appreciate it anew. “Now that I have kids, I can see it again through their eyes, when my kids started to get into it, and that’s when I started to revisit it. What’s great, because of the moral storyline in it, it’s great to use to teach your kids right from wrong. I let the movies raise my kids while I just go and play golf.”

Asked which Star Wars character would be best suited to take over his role on The Daily Show, Stewart didn’t take long to come up with an answer. “Jar Jar Binks. That’s the level we write to, so he’d probably do best.”

Wired Magazine has posted a picture of Jon’s “Stewart Trooper” action figure.

A one-of-a-kind Star Wars action figure puts faux newsman Jon Stewart inside the familiar white armor of a stormtrooper. The Daily Show host, who interviewed George Lucas over the weekend at Star Wars Celebration V in Orlando, Florida, received the 3.75-inch “Stewart Trooper” toy as a gift from the Star Wars creator.

Packaged on a blister card, the unique Hasbro action figure came with a removable stormtrooper helmet and two interchangeable heads — one with Stewart’s clean-shaven face and the other with the funnyman’s recently shaved salt-and-pepper goatee.

This was a great conversation. I loved how Jon talked about rediscovering the films through his children’s eyes. My son somehow ended up asking about them at breakfast today. We told him he’d have to wait til he’s a teensy bit older (for reference, he couldn’t get all the way through Ponyo because the daddy was too scary ;P )

Could you imagine having your own Star Wars action figure!?!? That Jon Stewart, he’s the coolest kid on the block!

Shout Out (Hey!): Thumb up +2

    I need one of these.
And then George Lucas needs to make one for Stephen.

Shout Out (Hey!): Thumb up +1

Thanks for the great round up Katt!

I always assumed that Stephen was the bigger Star Wars geek of the two, but that interview certainly proved me wrong. Jon has some serious Star Wars knowledge going on there.

I really love that he has gotten to re-experience the saga with his children. I’d love to see the looks on their faces when daddy came home with his own Storm Trooper action figure.

I think the evil bearded Jon head is so just so dam cute!! I really wish these action figures would go main stream, but I highly doubt it :(

Shout Out (Hey!): Thumb up 0
