*blinks* *wibbles* I’d pot a *scrolls up(* comment, but my keyboard*scrolls up* seems to have malfunctionsd.
Um, yes, you were saying??? XD

Nicely done and incisive W0RD, as usual, and the interview with Chuck Close was fascinating. I’ll have to chase up his work, cos a TV screen doesn’t do them justice!

No, the tv doesn’t do his portraits justice. I’ve seen a few up close and personal, that are in the Met. Museum of Art in NYC. They’re pretty amazing.

The Word was really good! I found the finger licking to be hilarious but I can understand the fangirl reaction. :-)

      • lockhart43 says:

I truly wish I’d had time to stop by the MET when I was in NYC, especially now that you mention Close’s portraits are on display there. *sigh* Guess I’ll just have to go back… :D

  2. lockhart43 says:

I thought the hummus bit was absolutely hilarious, but for as much as I was laughing, and I’m not going to lie to you, when he started licking his fingers I said out loud, “Stephen, don’t do that to me!” *head shake* *sigh* …Moving on. :P

Stephen was in a bouncy mood last night, I loved it. The Word was brilliant, and the Senior Moment segment had me cracking up. I hope they make that a regular segment! The Chuck Close interview was just a great way to end the week – I was hoping they would get to the fact that Close can’t recognize people’s faces, as that really shocked me when I read about it, and I loved Stephen’s reaction. Stephen’s “You are an artist,” reply to Close saying he watches the show every night was nicely done as well. :)

  3. Roseha says:

The Chuck Close interview was a delight! It was great to see Stephen interacting with such a famous artist – who’s a fan! I didn’t know about Mr. Close’s face recognition problem, but it seems to me that that must be why he creates such huge portraits.

I also loved the new “Senior” segment, and the WORD.

Oh my. I agree with Tish up there in the comments, my keyboard doesn’t really want to….cooperate. Um. Wow. Yeah. Yeah…

I’m just back from vacation, so I’m looking forward to catching up on the rest of this week’s shows, and this was a great start. I’ve admired Chuck Close’s work for ages – his portraits are just fantastic. Turns out he’s a cool guy as well. I’d completely forgotten he had prosopagnosia, too.

The pita/hummus thing had me in fits, it was so funny. But The Word gets my vote, not least for reminding people that we have our own history of non-Muslim, home-grown terrorists, too.

(Also, don’t you just love that The Word always gets the biggest, wildest cheers on the show, apart from the show opening? A testament to the consistently spot-on satire!)

      I agree!
And last night’s crowd was just “hot” period.

  6. Mr. Arkadin says:

HaHa! All I could think of during that finger-licking segment was of all you fangirls losing consciousness & having to be revived by family or friends. Made the bit even funnier for me. ;P
The Word was superb & it was great to hear Close say he was a fan of TCR. I alway love it when people of renown say they love the show! :) My only disappointment at the interview was Close hadn’t done a portrait of Stephen! I really thought that would be “the big finish” of the interview. You can’t have everything I guess. :(
So get to work on it Chuck! :D

    • Gratefull says:

LOL – absolutely … I was giggling just thinking about the banter between the fangirls. The way Stephen keeps such intense eye contact with the camera as he does such lascivious stuff … LOL … he has got to know that his is over loading the fangirl circuits!

With two songs on TDS, I wondered if the TDS writers just didn’t want to write yesterday but goodness, did the TCR crew make up for it! What a show!

    Guh…hummus…can’t…take eyes…away….

Loved last night’s show from start to finish. I’m always one for The Word, though, both for its clever linguistic play and its incisive social and political commentary. The interview was wonderful–and you KNOW that Stephen was thinking of the fangirls when he did his finger-licking goodness act. I can just imagine him and his staff laughing and predicting the reaction . I wonder what the audience did? I’m assuming there had to be a more vocal response than we heard from the TV.

  9. Mr. Arkadin says:

Oh yeah, I forgot. I loved the “WELCOME, OLDS.” graphic. Too funny! And like lockhart43 said, I too hope “Senior Moments” becomes a regular segment. “Stephen” talking about old people is always pure gold!

    • lockhart43 says:

The “WELCOME, OLDS!!” made me laugh so hard! It definitely reminded me of the Old People chapter in IAAASCY, as well as the audiobook. When I saw the joke in the Intro [The World According to AARP], I immediately thought of the line, “The AARP, which I’m sure stands for something, but just sounds like the noise an old person makes when getting up from a bean bag chair.” HA!

Shout Out (Hey!): Thumb up +3

      • Mr. Arkadin says:

        I thought of IAAASCY too!
But I had forgotten about the AARP- bean bag joke. Ha! Thanks for reminding me. :D

Uh, meant to comment earlier but I just came to from that opening sequence…oh, to be that bud light w/lime bottle! ;)

    Difference makers: Thumb up +5

  11. Katt says:

WOW what a show!! The Word was brilliant and Chuck Close is such an amazing artist and I will never look at a bottle of Bud Light Lime the same again!!

  12. Arkadina says:

Intro….ha ha. Senior people…ha ha. “My guest tonight…” WTF?! Why so short an episode, especially after what seemed like half a Daily Show beforehand?

Hmmm. Ran frantically to the ColbertNation site. Hmmm, I see…….well, I can only imagine that the powers-that-be here in the Middle East took exception to “Happy Ramadan” and The Word, and slashed those bits out.

But, oh yeahhhhhhh….*I* liked “Happy Ramadan”. Stephen, I’m going to watch that bit every day for the next 26 days – if I can’t go out to get in daylight hours to buy a falafel burger, the least I can do is watch you lick hummous from your fingers. And there I was wondering what would get me through Ramadan this year…

  13. marleygirl84 says:

That hummus bit definitely had my attention, but my favorite part of the night was the Chuck Close interview. They have one of his pieces, entitled “Frank”, at the Minneapolis Institute of Arts and ever since I was little, it would indeed “grab me by the collar” and freeze me in place. I would always spend by far the most amount of time gaping at that HUGE amazingly detailed painting compared to all the rest.

  14. jbirdNZ says:

Thank you DB -I haven’t seen the show yet but that clip… oh my… . It must be watched again!

    And again.

    And again…

  15. Laura says:

He should really just say that it was for the fangirls and who cares about the fasting muslims. When he started drinking the beer it reminded me of the Starbucks price hike clip. (MMMMMMMMMMM) Why they didn’t do it in slow motion is up for debate. That was just yummy!

I also was very interested in the interview. I wish I could do something like that. I admire people who have the attention span and the attention to detail that Mr. Close has. On a side note, is he related to Glenn Close?
