EPISODE NUMBER: 6095 (July 29, 2010)
GUESTS: Andy Cohen
SEGMENTS: The Oil Is Missing, Thought for Food, Apology Box
VIDEOS: Thursday, July 29, 2010
Thanks for the tip-offs that there was a toss in our Jon’s Goatee post. I haven’t seen Stephen do a face plant to the desk in quite some time. How adorkable was that?! Also, speaking of the goatee, my husband clarified to me that technically what Jon is sporting is a van Dyke, which is a mustache and a chin beard, as opposed to a goatee which is simply a chin growth. The more you know …
The writers putting two and two together to form the whack-a-mole joke was so wrong. Only Stephen could get away with that much silliness. Also, that footlong burger looks kinda gross. The binary joke was just divine – I simply love it when Stephen gets geeky. My inner 8th grader got a bit twitterpated when Stephen’s Apology Box started playing “Hard To Say I’m Sorry”. I’ll always have a soft spot in my heart for ‘Chicago 16′ and ‘Chicago 17′.
You could totally tell who the drinkers were in the audience when Stephen started pouring himself a huge glass of Triple Sec. For those of you who aren’t drinkers, Triple Sec is an orange liqueur, which is only good in very small doses in a Margarita or similar mixed drink. So the thought of that much Triple Sec in a drink? Nasty. Oh, and the reenactment between “Bethany” and “Kelly” was so amazingly wonderful.
What did you think of this final show of the week?

- Sadly, rescue workers were unable to save the kraken from the oil spill.
- Now, I know that sounds like a good thing, out of sight, out of pelican, but we have to find out where it’s hiding in the ecosystem.
- Ladies and gentlemen, I am afraid the oil has achieved whack-a-mole technology.
- There are even reports of short kids being allowed on roller coasters by lying on their side.
- Now, this one, this one even has a maze on the box. Because we all need exercise.
- Who is the government to tell us what to feed our children? Leave that to the experts, like naval officers, manic depressive rodents and the chocolate undead.
- It’s magically delicious!
- In lieu of flowers, next of kin would like an order of onion rings.
- It’s all part of scientist’s continuing quest to develop someone to go to dinner with.
- What I’m about to show you is very graphic, so if you or your roomba have just eaten, you may want to turn away. It poos!
- They developed a robot that goes number two. Although they use binary, so technically it goes number 10.
- Wow. Conan has really let himself go.
- But lately I’ve been getting this strange feeling inside that my friends tell me is my, what is this word con-science?
- And unfortunately I can’t blame Shasta for them anymore because my parents put him to sleep for stealing all that money.
- And I know what those New Jersey highways are like because I occasionally drive to New Jersey to abandon an old Chevy Caprice.
- To the brave men and women at new jersey state police, let me say, I’m sorry. ♪♪ Hold me now it’s hard for me to say I’m sorry ♪♪
- I don’t know why he’s offended. I’m the one who had to dance all by myself.
- Did you have to sleep with yourself to get that job? And what is he like in the sack?
- For the record, there’s already a show about bitchiness in Washington. It’s called C-span.
- Oh, my God, did the claws come out?
this was a hard choice bc on the one hand i laughed a lot throughout the whole food for thought episode but on the other hand i laughed a lot towards the end of the cohen interview but bc the food for thought was consistently hilarious i chose that one.
didnt watch the toss yet but im going to do that right now- thanks for the tip off.
this week has just been so amazingly epic- i love when stephen and the interviewee have face-offs and we got two this week! i always love the episodes right after a vacation for two reasons:
1- i go through major withdrawal when theres no report
2- they always come back from their vacations with such energy that the episodes are just plain hilarious!

The Toss was divine, Jon almost face-planted and Stephen did a magnificent face-plant, with the added bonus of a script tear-up. I think I need to do a gif of that. <3
The thought of the spilt oil doing a whack-a-mole is so gloriously daft, it just might be true.
Loved the Apology Box – the art department was obviously channelling their inner-kindergarten-kid there.
A binary joke is always welcome – nerds unite!
The interview was great fun with the catty re-enactment and omg those drinks!

The head-deskery in the toss was loverly, and the apology box adorkable.
And I’m really loving the Thought For Food segments.
But the Bethany/Kelly reenactment was easily the part that had me laughing the hardest last night. Possibly because I really really dislike those insipid “Real Housewives” shows.
(Did the interior shot of the Apology Box make anyone else think of Jambi the Genie from PeeWee’s Playhouse?)

Stephen has been giddy and effervescent during this entire week of shows- and it has been a pure joy to watch! I think he missed us! :)
Hurray for a Kalamazoo, MI shout out- even if it is for oil. I went to Western Michigan for my undergrad! Love the Whack-A-Mole technology reference. Makes as much sense as any other theory BP might come up with!
I am becoming a fan of “Thought for Food” segment. Mostly because it involves Stephen tossing boxes/props off his desk in a haphazard manner. The amount of cereal in the bowl to represent 8 grams of sugar isn’t too far off!
When “Hard for Me to Say I’m Sorry” began to play, I had a flashback of dancing an arms length away from a lanky boy, shifting our weight side to side in unision in a middle school gym. Good times! And, WOW! Barney Frank is coming on the show!? I NEVER thought that would happen!
Please re-enact more scenes from reality shows. I don’t watch “The Real Housewives” but I will watch a Stephen and Andy recreation anytime!

Stephen sure had some anti-gravity hair going on in that Toss for some reason.

deff had to choose the interview. i absolutely love it when stephen gets all camp-y.

I nearly gagged when he poured such a huge glass of Triple Sec! I don’t know what’s worse. That or watching him drink Bud Light with Lime. Blech! Very fun interview though.
Thought for Food was entertaining, as always. A footlong burger?! Have we really come to that? And the Ecobot made me giggle like a 12 year old. The Apology box was also hilarious and count me as also having a whole bunch of 80s memories come flooding back when “Hard to Say I’m Sorry” started playing.

A great show and a great Toss! The interview was so much fun, Stephen needs to keep having these entertaining guests! And I do love “Thought for Food” – great new segment. :D

The entire show was great. I loved the Toss, I loved the Apology Box (remember that interview last summer when Stephen said he wanted to apologize to someone, but he had to do it in character? ….hmmm) and the “Housewives” part of the interview was just fab.
But I voted for “Thought for Food” because it just never gets old. What will we come up with next?
Hilarious show and week.

Don’t forget that Jon also made a Stephen mention during the Daily Show intro yesterday – the hilarious “Stephen would totally beat me in a fight!” segment. xD And he also gives his goatee a name, which was utterly adorkable.

I have to say both shows have been magnificent this week. I’ve been thoroughly enjoying the goatee saga, and Stephen has been gloriously smiley and effervescent since the break, as another commenter mentioned. Love it!

What a great week. Lately I’ve been finding it hard to pay attention to the guest interviews but this week was a great lineup. I especially loved Kevin Kline. Not that I think he should stop having authors and scientists on, but I hope he keeps mixing it up with actors and other TV personalities.
I’d have to give it to the interview. Stephen drinking with Andy Cohen and reading a transcript from the housewives show was too much! Loved it!

let me clarify…..
(can’t edit my post for some reason)
I like the authors and scientists. However, this week I was actually excited for the guests because I knew who some of them were. Most of the authors and scientists, I’ve never heard of, so it’s hard to get excited when you’ve never heard of them. Exception-Neil Degrasse Tyson. Now that I know who he is and what a great guy he is, I get excited when I know he’s going to be on.
Didn’t mean to diss the authors and scientists!!

He was in such a great mood this week – every episode was fantastic. I loved Thought For Food, and it’s great that they’re doing so much with that segment. The Apology Box is just another reason why I wish I worked on that show. Bless the Props department for that one! And I appreciated the binary joke oh-so much! :)
That Andy Cohen interview was *sigh* just hilarious and amazing. Kudos to Cohen for playing along during the Real Housewives reenactment. That part literally made me laugh until I cried.
Fingers crossed Barney Frank comes on the show this week! Seeing him on Tuesday’s show, plus seeing Stephen nail Laura Ingraham might make my head explode with joy.

There was so much to love this week: The Word, the hysterical segment about that rather mad candidate, the Housewives’ readout, the Kevin Kline burp, and that amazing toss. Can’t wait for next week, especially the amazing, wonderful, incredible Savion Glover. Will we see Stephen tap?
