G’day Zoners, I’m currently blogging to you as I channel surf between Wimbledon and the World Cup. For a mad sports nut such as myself, life doesn’t get much better than when you’re on holidays with a daily sporting smorgasboard and the oh so “subtle” sound of a Vuvuzela humming in the background. The only thing that could ruin my holiday and current state of sporting bliss, is if New Zealand win the World Cup. It’s at that point that Australia will prove that the world is indeed flat, as we slowly drift off the edge. I hope that the team you support is doing better than Australia or that you’ve at least gotten better referee’s than we have. I have to say that tt would be an absolute disaster if America won the world cup but you did definately deserved to win the match against Slovenia. Here’s hoping that the rest of the World Cup will be as exciting and unpredictable as the first week has been.
For the non-sports obessed Zoners, there is plenty of Six Degrees news to brighten your day!!

Daily Show Executive Producer Rory Albanese said it was only recently that he and host Jon Stewart discovered cable network G4’s most prized possession: a hot girl who’ll do anything for a laugh. “We’re stuck in a hard news cycle and we’re nerdy,” Albanese said. “If she was on the cover of The Economist, we would have been like, ‘Yes! Of course!’”
—
“We just wanted to make sure our sense of humor clicked with hers,” said Albanese. The show, he said, is always looking to add women to its roster of correspondents, having been accused in the past of not having enough female voices in its mix. “When we watched Olivia on G4, we saw all the things we need on The Daily Show. She’s got great comedic timing, she’s smart and she’s very good off the cuff. We certainly didn’t know she was just on Maxim, and it really doesn’t matter. We just needed to find out if she was into joining us.”
While her deal with the show is not yet final, it’s simply a matter of sorting out Munn’s packed schedule. “She’s like the female Ryan Seacrest,” Albanese said.

SD: It’s like what Stephen Colbert said about George W. Bush at the 2006 White House Correspondents’ dinner: “He believes the same thing on Wednesday that he did on Monday no matter what happened Tuesday.”
LW: That was such a fascinating thing. Many people forget that that was the first time George Bush had been held to hear his record and wasn’t able to leave. He wasn’t able to orchestrate the crowd like he’d been doing in the rallies … And the media had to hear it, as well. And so it was very interesting, because people who watched that thought it was really funny, but the press was, like, “Stephen Colbert bombed.” No, you get to say that because you’re a little mad that he called you out on how you handled the war and all that other stuff. So, everyone tried to form this meme that Stephen didn’t do well, when he was fantastic.

AVC: Wasn’t there an Ambiguously Gay duo movie as well?
RS: That’s what I wrote with Stephen Colbert. It had been suggested to me to write an Ambiguously Gay duo movie a couple of years after that cartoon had come out, and I resisted until I thought of doing it as a live-action movie. I thought that would bring a whole new life to it and it would be a way of parodying the superhero genre without doing a movie that was just a superhero movie. You know the people who do those Not Just Another movies? I never wanted to make a movie that was just a superhero parody. They come out with those movies and they do direct hits on things. I didn’t want to do that—I just wanted to play with the genre and how seriously it had started to take itself, starting with the Tim Burton Batman movie. I though that would be funny to play against these ridiculous characters and I also thought it would be hilarious to see them in those costumes and to see that car. You just want to see that car, and Colbert and I ended up writing a pretty crazy movie. It had a lot of satirical—Ace and Gary are big characters in it but there’s also enormous time spent with this rogues gallery and the government as well. We ended up getting to do a lot of funny social commentary about people’s attitudes about sexuality. I confess to still thinking about that one now and then. It was a very funny screenplay that we worked hard on and I know Colbert really liked it at the time before he became a national treasure. Now he’s like, “Ambiguously what?”Full Interview: AV Club.

I can honestly say that I do not think the US will win the World Cup. They definitely should have won against Slovenia, and that was a fantastic comeback, but they’re just allowing too many early goals so they spend the rest of the match playing catch-up. I’m rooting for them in every game, of course, but I’m secretly hoping England or Germany (or Ghana!) wins in the Final.
Anyway. Massive Six Degrees list! I will definitely be watching Tim Meadows on Craig Ferguson – that already sounds like an fun interview. And that song from Ed Helms and Ken Jeong, along with the HI-larious dance from Tom Cruise aka Les Grossman that followed, was the only good thing about the MTV Movie Awards. :P

I think my faith in the US Team was renewed this morning. What a game against Algeria! SO happy they won! And I’m pulling for the Aussies today, too – really hope they can win, along with Ghana.

“The only thing that could ruin my holiday and current state of sporting bliss, is if New Zealand win the World Cup.”
Eh? Really?
Wow, I didn’t know we Kiwis could make people that miserable (aside from Italy supporters). I thought it was just a game, afterall.

I can’t help it, I’m Australian. It’s in my DNA to want NZ to lose in all sporting events, that is unless you win. In that case we shall claim your victory as our own, the same way we claim Russel Crowe as an Aussie when he wins Oscars.
Though, I will say I definately think you should have beaten Italy, they did not deserve that direct penalty at all!!

An Ocker! That makes more sense now! LOL I was born in Aussie but my Brit/Kiwi parents moved back here when I was young so I can get totally bipartisan when need be. I’m just as surprised over the All Whites as everyone else is to be frank.
As for Russ Crowe -no-one wants him when he’s bad and everyone wants him when he’s winning!
Good to see some Downunder lurve for Stephen Colbert! Yay for all of us down here with great taste!!

Well, I’m a Brazil supporter in the World Cup, but am enjoying the games, though stupefied at some of the results. Looks as if many of the usual suspects may not make it to round two. Latin America, in general, seems to be doing better as a region than any other place. So…I’m hoping for a sixth and a new record for my brasileiros!
Funny though, how Stephen will not let that US tie with England go! (Especially when he’s never been interested in football — yes FOOTBALL.) And of course Jon and John are having a blast with it, too. Tonight was hysterical, when John told Jon to f#*k himself after yet another mention of the tie!

Hey, with that huge listing of activities for TDS and CR alumni and friends, I didn’t even notice at first that John Oliver would be doing a show in Stephen’s neck of the woods!
