Who’s Honoring Stephen Colbert now? The VH1 Do Something Awards!

VH1 Do Something AwardsThe VH1 Do Something awards honor the best young world-changers, 25 and under, that are making the world a better place. The five nominees for this year’s award (of which the winner will receive a $100,000 grant for their cause) have done projects such as running theatrical companies for disabled children, training community health workers in Haiti, and funding school for poverty stricken girls in Kiberia.

In addition to celebrating these amazing young people, the awards have nominated celebrities in different categories. Stephen Colbert is nominated in the category of “Comedian” for his work in Iraq, along with Ben Stiller, Kathy Griffin, Ellen Degeneres, and Eddie Izzard. You can vote daily for Stephen, and the results will be announced during the Do Something Awards broadcast on July 19, 2010 at 9/8C.

Of course, the Colbert Nation has been a part of so many of Stephen’s philanthropic efforts: US Speedskating, DonorsChoose.org, Yellow Ribbon Fund, the Stephen Colbert AmeriCone Dream Fund, Symphony Space and other theatrical fundraisers, and many others. He has really taken the opportunities given to him and used them to benefit all types of people from all different walks of life and circumstances.

I tried and it wouldn’t let me, even after I made a whole new account with a different email address. Argh. Is it a Safari thing?

I haven’t voted yet. I love Stephen but running 43 marathons in 52 days? That is unbelievable. That’s what Eddie Izzard did. The others were nice accomplishments too. I have to say it would be a tossup between Eddie and Stephen. I hate running and I admire anyone who can run one marathon nevermind 43 in 52 days.

I hope he mentions this on the show. Perhaps he could start a new “feud” with someone. :-)

I love Eddie Izzard, and that is absolutely fantastic what he did. If Stephen doesn’t win, I’m definitely pulling for Eddie.

And that would be great if he mentioned it on the show. I would love it if he started a “feud” with Ben Stiller or Izzard ha. :P

I voted! I’ll have to remember to go back often if I can vote daily…I really think Stephen should be noticed more for his amazing charity work!
