Following Stephen Colbert’s interview with Bill Adair, editor of the Pulitzer prize-winning PolitiFact, I’m delighted to report that PolitiFact continues to use its powers for good: Monday night’s episode of The Colbert Report has been subjected to the fact-checking superstars over at PolitiFact (internal links omitted).
We bring truthiness to ‘The Colbert Report’

To get a taste of the Truth-O-Meter, the Colbert producers asked us to fact-check a few claims from Monday’s show. Bill didn’t get a chance to discuss them on the show, but you can find them on our home page. We checked:
Jeffrey Toobin’s claim that a filibuster has not been used successfully against a Supreme Court justice. A claim from Julian Assange that the WikiLeaks video shows the soldiers were given authority to fire before “RPGs” were mentioned. Colbert’s claim that John Paul Stevens is the last Protestant on the Supreme Court. . . .
Check to see who scored the only “True” on the Truth-o-meter here
Suffice it to say that I was tickled by the outcome.
You can also read Adair’s recap of his visit with Stephen here. Re-watch the segment below, and enjoy!

It’s cool that the producers offered Monday’s show up for a fact-check. Though I like to think that TCR has its own fact-checking machine: Stephen. He’s usually the one that calls the guests out on their own BS. Which I love. :)

I’m glad TCR had PolitiFact look into Toobin’s statement. I thought I had hear Rachel Maddow say that Fortas was filibustered in the late 60′s. PolitiFact did a great, through job looking into this & I found it very informative. Thanks Ms. I!
