EPISODE NUMBER: 6043 (March 31, 2010)
GUESTS: Craig Mullaney
SEGMENTS: Tip of the Hat, Wag of the Finger, Easter Under Attack
VIDEOS: Wednesday, March 31, 2010
I think most of you know that, in addition to my enthusiastic passion for the ‘Colbert Report’, that I am a very big ‘Lost’ fan. So when Stephen referenced the numbers, it really rubbed me the wrong way. I mean, seriously, The Numbers haven’t been featured since Hurley and Jack went into the lighthouse after Jacob told them that they needed to be up there, and saw that each of the numbers corresponded with one of the six candidates. Hurley was barely in the Sun and Jin-centric episode on Tuesday night! He at least played a part in moving along the plot in the episode last week where he played the part of Oda Mae Brown. I know we’ll see him a lot again in the April 13th episode, “Everybody Loves Hugo”, though, and hopefully the numbers mythology will surface again. (Did you know that Jorge Garcia has a blog? Love him!) Also, if you’re a ‘Lost’ fan, I cannot recommend enough the ‘Lost’ fan blog The Ack Attack. Their episode guides are absolutely hysterical and I simply cannot get enough of their talk about guyliner and Jears [Jack's Tears]. Go check it out, seriously! I was fortunate enough to miss the V countdown, as I watched the episode on Hulu the next day. But I remember reading it on a couple of the “Lost” recaps I read every week, and am seriously glad I missed it.
Okay, sorry, back to Stephen. There are very few recurring graphics I love more than the “Easter Under Attack” . Stephen’s new thing he’s doing where he amuses himself due to a groan-worthy pun is simply adorkable. I also found the interview both amusing and interesting. I thought the interview, while a bit awkward, was interesting in that it showed Stephen doing his best to not have Craig have to avoid answering questions that could jeopardize the safety of the troops.
So, now that I’ve *finally* got a real episode guide up, in a timely manner and everything, tell me what you thought of the episode in the comments!

- I’ll give you a hint using this award I won for finger pointing.
- I was beaten by a bag of Top Ramen.
- Smash! Smash Break! Smash Break!
- That’s right, the Hutaree militia. Not to be confused with the Atari Militia, our last line of defense against the asteroid menace. Oh, it’s out there.
- They’re like Nell with rocket launcher.
- Take my militia, the Warriors of Biblicon. We are totally mainstream – we just like to get together in the woods, wear camo and facepaint, to share Christian fellowship and ammunition. We’re not out there plotting. We’re just … preparing. You know, preparing for something “mainstream”. And we will be ready.
- Do you know how hard it is to focus on the countdown clock when Hurley won’t stop talking about the numbers?
- And then, spoiler alert! It went to 0:59:58.
- I should check out that show sometime, let’s find out when it’s on.
- Now folks, I have heard nothing new for six months. Not a peep.
- How many peeps are stuck to your naked body right now, sir?
- So this is like a member of the Klan representing Rosa Parks? Just say Yes.
- What’s wrong with [my salute]? Is my pinky off?
- I love to Kipple.
- What is it like to fail?
- Did you come here to make me feel bad about not winning a Peabody?
Hey DB is there anyway to use your connections to get TCR posted earlier? I usually enjoy waking up to Colbert before heading off to work, but sometimes its not even posted on colbertnation by 5:30am. I know, from comments on here, that TCR was posted at 3am EST.
If you could just give a shout out and ask that would be great.

Well, it’s 6:25 EDST as I write, but my just-posted comment read 5:25, so don’t go by the posted time.
I agree with you about CC’s annoying policy of episode dawdling. It used to get uploaded to Hulu before CC, & (when I was willing to spend the $), iTunes posted it usually no later than 5 a.m.
On the other hand, it gives me something to look forward to watching after work.

I occasionally just can’t stay awake for the shows at 11 and 11:30 pm so I will watch them the next evening on TDS and CN’s websites. For me, it’s the horrible quality of the videos that makes me want to scream. I (finally) have a brand new computer with an HD monitor but the videos still look terrible. *sigh*

Am I missing something by never having seen an episode of ‘Lost’? Maybe I’ll just read all the recaps. lol
My reaction to “Not a Peep” was a reflexive hands over the face groan that – long enough that I almost missed his reaction. (I adore puns!)

Jennie,
If you haven’t watched any of the episodes of lost—I would recommend not reading recaps and watching from the start. I found a season or two of them tedious (i just got hooked this last season via hulu) when I had no idea what flashing was. But I am now hooked, and I can’t get enough LOST.
Don’t spoil what happens, and just watch the shows…it is worth it.

Speaking of lost… if you love lost the best “non-fan” recaps of the final season are on http://neverseenlost.wordpress.com/
The recaps are hilarious. The author presents himself as a person who never saw Lost before, and it is wonderful.

I love “Stephen” struggling with asking the last interview question, and then deciding not to. Now I’m REALLY curious what it was he wanted to ask!

or maybe it was a planned “exit strategy”

I haven’t had a chance to watch the episode yet (I totally passed out last night from sheer exhaustion), but I just have to say that the Carlos Mencia banner is HI-larious! It’s a little annoying though, but that is ONLY because I absolutely cannot stand Carlos Mencia…and when you have him on the same page as Stephen, I don’t know what to do with these feelings. Nice April Fool’s joke DB! :D

“I don’t know what to do with these feelings.”
LOL!!! Nor do I!

I am really growing to like puns…when Stephen delivers them. The fact that he reacts and then waits for more reaction is just too cute.
An interesting interview. To watch Stephen struggle with how to word his last question demonstrates a thoughtful approach not found in some interviews. But, due to the nature of the discussion [and perhaps how his visit to Iraq impacted him] he chose not to ask it. It amazes me how he can dial it up or down based on the direction of the interview.

Wow, i can’t believe the prosecutor used “mainstream” and “militias” in the same sentence. That whole segment was hysterical, especially Stephen’s delivery of the “preparing”-bit. Those statistics, tripling from 42 to 127 militias are pretty damn depressing though so the pure silliness of the V-countdown was nice. And i’m pathetic and would probably watch Stephen watch a microwave…just sayin’.
And the peeps update interview with John Pineau was great “ok, so i just caught you in a lie”.

I love the lame puns. So much. hahah! Stephen’s smile and reaction after he says a pun is way too cute and funny.

Oh, the peeps pun was irresistible and adorable!

I was at the taping last night. The interview was very long. The stage manager was holding up the sign that said “WRAP” for several minutes. It was clear Stephen was very interested in the subject and just kept going. They did edit it down. He also talked to Craig for quite a while after they ended….

Thanks for the taping info. It explains why the interview seemed a bit awkward. Sometimes when Jon Stewart goes overtime the whole interview is put on the TDS website. Maybe TCR
could do that too. I would have really liked to see the entire interview.

Brief Taping Report – 3/31/10
It was my mom’s birthday, and we were finally able to score tickets. During the Q & A section my brother had the balls to ask Stephen to sing Happy Birthday to my mother– which he did– in LATIN. She almost died. During one of the commercial breaks a cameraman came over and gave her a wriststrong bracelet, and at another break an intern gave her a t-shirt. She was in heaven. Stephen is so amazingly genuine — I’ve been to a lot of tapings of different shows, and it’s obvious everyone there has a great time and he is just a super nice guy!

For a moment there when I saw that banner, I thought, “Have I been away from NFZ for that long……”
Now, even after I’ve realized it’s an April Fool’s joke, seeing it is still making me want to cry a little. Just a little.
