GUESTS: Simon Johnson
SEGMENTS: Ricky Martin Is Gay, The WØRD – Forgive and Forget, Thought for Food
VIDEOS: Tuesday, March 30, 2010
Okay, I’m back to my normal work schedule, which means I HAVE TIME TO BLOG AGAIN in the morning! Life is good.
Is it wrong that when I saw that Ricky Martin was gay, one of the first thoughts that I had is that I hoped “Stephen” would talk about it? I love it when Stephen gets his heart broken by very mundane announcements. And I love it even more when Stephen wears tacky midriff baring shirts. It gives me flashbacks of that Exit 57 sketch where he wore that midriff thing. You know, that sketch where, well, actually, pretty much every show he found a way to show that belly button of his. At any rate, love me some Patterson Springs Stephen, no matter what the context.
The Catholic church is in such turmoil right now, and I find it very interesting watching Stephen talking about the scandal. He has stated in interviews that while he is an active Catholic, he also feels free to question the church when appropriate. It’s always interesting to me to watch his character talk about the Catholic church and the scandals and foibles that the church is involved in in.
Yay for “Thought for Food!” I love any excuse for Stephen to bring together two great tastes that do *not* taste great together. Also, did anyone else catch that Stephen was wearing the same tie during the flashback as he was during this show? He so rarely wears the same tie twice that it’s funny to see evidence of it.
It’s always interesting to hear guests talk about our economic strength (or lack thereof). Simon was very good in that fact. But to me, it’s kind of watching Food Inc. or Supersize Me – it both terrifies me and makes me feel totally helpless. I mean, how can I and my extremely meager income expect to be able to stave off the upcoming economic downturn. Again. I barely survived this one. Oh, well, I think I’ll just go participate in some small-scale retail therapy and everything will be just fine.
What did you think of this episode?

- She. That’s a girl. And now, tomorrow’s school lunches.
- Now that outfit seems kinda gay.
- You see, for decades, the church had a secret policy for dealing with sex abuse by clergy. [Don't Ask, Don't Ask]
- Finally you can find your baby’s poop in corn, and not the other way around.
- Ack! indeed.
- Of course, I can stop any time I want to. It’s just that sometimes I need a little pick me up.
- I am here to tell you there’s nothing wrong with that. I want that named after me if it catches on.
- Great, he gave away the recipe.
- Oh, really, gov’na?
- That’s because the Dow is like America’s erection – if it lasts more than four years, seek a doctor.
Welcome back to morning blogging, DB!
Was he sporting a “Full Gipper” hair-do in this episode?
And as soon as he showed up in that midriff thing I thought of the marriage councilors from Exit 57. (The most disturbing midriff reveal from Exit 57. The best, of course, is Dancing Muchachos)

All I can hear in my head now is the line, “This is my body…” and picturing Stephen in that cropped shirt!

Stephen saying “This is my body, this is my BODY. THIS….is my body,” was all I could think of when Patterson Springs came up! And that mustache is just too funny! I also love how tan his face is but how white his stomach is, hahaha. :P

I would love to walk through the TCR wardrobe dept. or sit in on the meeting where they discuss, “Stephen should be wearing this…do we have anything like that?”
I hope Stephen patents his Pringles w/ReddiWhip. It may become a new flavor to place on the shelf next to TacoNight! [More of a dessert potato chip- an untapped market!]
Glad TCR covered the Catholic Church scandal. I was wondering how they would do it and I wasn’t disappointed. TDS’s take a few nights ago was good as well.

Glad your schedule’s back to normal, DB!
I am so tempted to buy a can of Pringles and make a Pringles/RediWhip sandwich. That was so great – as was the adorable character break that resulted from it. And I am so glad to see that Thought For Food is becoming a regular segment. :]
The whole segment about Ricky Martin had me cracking up! When he said the whole thing had him turned “up-side in-side out,” I lost it. And Patterson Springs Stephen definitely made me think of Exit 57! Stephen’s facial expression was actually exactly the same as it was during that skit, lol.
We are being spoiled with great shows this week, I love it! :D

I love thought for food also! America has such an eating problem that I also think it’s good that Stephen is making it so regular. lockhart you will have to tell us what Pringles/ReddiWhip tastes like!
(I just saw a commercial where the Mom was making hamburgers for the kids to ward off a “low blood sugar attack!” What, not for a meal? Things are getting out of hand I agree.)
