Oh my goodness! Symphony Space has announced that Stephen Colbert will be participating in the Harper Lee’s To Kill a Mockingbird 50th Anniversary Celebration!
You guys, this sounds amazing. We know that Stephen’s a wonderful reader — consider his readings of “The Lie“, “The Veldt” or in previous Bloomsday celebrations — and we know that he’s quite familiar with To Kill a Mockingbird. Any doubts on those fronts can be silenced by a re-watch of Stephen’s fabulous Gregory Peck/Atticus Finch impression (random references to Boo Radley aren’t uncommon, either). Put those two together, though, and you have a truly beautiful combination.
Information on the event, which is scheduled for Wednesday, April 28th, is here at Symphony Space. Truly, this sounds like a wonderful, not-to-be-missed event.
(h/t to Allison and DB for this great news!)
OMG!!!! This is going to be EPIC! Congrats to everyone who is lucky enough to go!

It is times like this I wish Pittsburgh were closer to NYC. I have created lesson plans in conjunction with our English Department for TKAMB…maybe we can call it professional development and get some time off!
Enjoy the show- those who will be in attendance. Perhaps Symphony Space will record the event!

I wish there was a way I could push up my trip to New York. When I read the header for this I immediately was like “please let it be in July, please let it be in July…” Oh well. It sounds like a fantastic event and I hope some of you will get to go!

I’m tempted to go, although nothing can top listening to him reading The Lie.

Wow! This is going to be amazing! I’m sure we’ll have some lucky Zoners who get to go and will tell us all about it. :)

OMG!! You just made my heart leap and gambole with glee!! I bought tickets to this months ago ’cause I’m a big fan of TKAMB and have started reading it again in anticipation of this event. Now I’m really gonna start counting the days!! (My face now hurts from smiling so much!)

I got my ticket and am really looking forward to it — thanks for posting. I do get emails from Symphony Space, but this might have sold out by the time I received the next one. I have taught the film in conjunction with the book, so it would have been fun in any case, but with Stephen it will be even better.

Oh lucky you! That’s great that you were able to get a ticket!

This sounds amazing! It’s times like these I wish I could just skip out on finals week for college, buy a plane ticket to NYC, and go to this. But I will settle for living vicariously through the Zoners that are able to go :)

I do wonder…if Stephen is going to be reading from this book, will he use his homegrown Southern accent?
Because that would be the win icing on this awesome cake :D

Ooh, I hope he does use his Southern accent. I expect he would. And thanks, Lockhart. I do feel lucky.

I never thought of that! Now I’m all tingly!!
Suddenly 4 weeks seems so very far away.

Ohhhh that would be absolutely fantastic if he did a Southern accent! *crosses fingers*

Here’s hoping Symphony Space takes full advantage of the colbert bump and record it either for radio or a cd. And i look forward to reading reports from lucky zoners! (Oh and count me in as another one pining for a southern accent)

I asked somebody at Symphony Space, and they said that they are planning to stream this event on Symphony Space Live, just as soon as they get all the rights in order. They expect that to be up around May 25.
