EPISODE NUMBER: 6041 (March 29, 2010)
GUESTS: The Prophet Elijah, Claire McCaskill
SEGMENTS: The WØRD – Napoleon Blown Apart, Passover Commercialism
VIDEOS: Monday, March 29, 2010
Good morning, Zoners! Yay for new episodes! Some breaks are much easier than others, but for me, this one was particularly rough. I hope the staff and Stephen got some well earned rest, and I’m very glad the show is back.
I know how much everyone likes to talk about each episode, so I hate even being late on my episode guides. Unfortunately, due to some training going on at work, my schedule has been shifted to 7a-4p until this Thursday. Normally this time of day is about the time I’d be wrapping up over an hour of blogging instead of already being at work. So please forgive me for taking a bit of a shortcut with this placeholder. I’ll get some commentary and quotes up when I get off of work and actually get a chance to watch the show. Until then, please enjoy the video of The WØRD from last night, and leave your thoughts about the episode in the comments. Hopefully I won’t get spoiled too much.
I voted for the Word (Mad Dog 2010?!?), but it was a tough call. The logic of the Geriatric Breeding Program was impeccable and who couldn’t love a segment that included “Jewpardy!”? Oh, and Stephen answering in the form of a question – what could be cuter? OK, Stephen playing with finger puppets – and the first born not wanting to play along with killing some Egyptians.
I do wanna set of 10 plagues finger puppets! I kept thinking of Ben Stiller’s 8 year old daughter – her father announced on TDS last night that she was now very into the plagues. I hope she gets a set for finding the afikoman this year.

I was thinking the same thing when he brought out those finger puppets! I wonder if Ben and his wife know about those. That was so funny!

The plaque finger puppets were absolutely hysterical! I loved Stephen’s little puppet show. I, too, thought of Ben Stiller’s daughter, since he mentioned her being into the plagues on TDS. hahah.
I love Stephen’s little chuckle and smile after he makes a pun. He made one last night about ‘leavening’ and then he made a cute face and mouthed “thank you, thank you” and I just found it to be equal parts adorable and hilarious.

I agree! I absolutely love his recent thing of laughing at his own lame puns….so incredibly cute!

I couldn’t help laughing at the geriatric breeding program. Although the Word was very amusing!
He nailed the question with a question.
He looks so sleek and well-rested!

I wonder who Stephen was trying to convince he was tan? His staff, the crowd or himself? ;)
A terrific show! I can’t vote for just one segment.

I’m sure Stephen is tan compared to before break but I didn’t adjust the color on my set! Love that he kept referencing it throughout the show.
I want those plague puppets to give my friends in the Religion Department! I adore Stephen’s use of props and sense of play!
Anyone else notice that on TDS- Jason Jones’ interview was with one of Stephen’s “Alpha Dogs” ?! That guy was easy fodder for getting comedycentraled!

Re Alpha Dog: I thought he looked familiar!

What a Jew-tastic night with the ending of TDS and the majority of the Report! As a Jewish viewer who is celebrating Passover, I could not stop smiling the whole time I was watching it…and was really hoping he would drink the Manichewitz wine, though I suppose it works on rusty bike parts better.

i love when stephen tries to speak hebrew (actually he has the “ch” sound down pretty good :D- but then again he is 3/4 jewish)
great show!
im so glad they’re back from vaca :)

Also want to mention Sen. McCaskill is a great guest–good chemistry, good banter. She should be a regular.

I agree! I thought she struck the right balance between letting Stephen tell the jokes and slipping in a few good digs at Republicans (her crack about John Boehner’s tan was pretty good).

Oh too, too good a show this one, almost makes up for the break. The Geratric Breeding segment (loved the way he was trying not to use his chicken hands) got me seriously LOLing until I saw the Passover Commercialism: “Hear me, O Israel, I sh*t thee not” was the standout quote for me.
Life is good, TCR and Stephen are back!

A few things I loved, other than what was already mentioned, was Stephen humming to “We’re In The Money” while putting on the finger puppets, his “You’re welcome America” comment, and when he said something like “you know what really smears my pap?” hahaha. Last night had some of the most clever writing in a long time, very consistent.

When I heard him say “you know what really smears my pap?” I seriously laughed for like 5 minutes. That might be one of the funniest puns I have ever heard.

Those finger puppets had me in stitches! And the raw chicken did too – LOL!
SO glad the shows are back. :D

I almost forgot the new word in the open- Libertease!

I totally didn’t notice that! Nice catch! :]

I vote EVERYTHING. Perfect show from top to bottom – just hilarious, and totally made my day (and trust me, it was a pretty crappy day to come back from). Seems like TCR folks are well-rested from the break and in top form. Yippee!!

I second that! The entire episode was just fantastic. Amazing with a capital A. :D

“You know what really smears my pap?”
“Hear me, O Israel, I sh*t thee not”
Laughing myself silly!

Passover Plagues Finger Puppets!! That was so, so funny. Also, “Hear me, O Israel, I sh*t thee not” was a great line.
Love the new word in the opening!! “Libertease.” Perfect.
I wish I was half as tan and rested as Stephen looks.

I think this is a first: Stephen managed to outdo Jon tonight in Jewish jokes.

Loved the whole first show back and the second one tonight, too. The writing is just amazing all around, and Stephen’s pulling no punches. And his Passover stuff is just great; he does do the Jewish stuff really well.
Now has anyone else noticed that Stephen is eating on nearly every show these days? Wonder what that’s about?

The ENTIRE show last night was just massive. Stephen was absolutely spot-on, and he definitely seemed like he was in a great, well-rested mood. And he looks so fantastic! Love the tan and the haircut. And that tie. :]
Every segment last night had me absolutely cracking up, so I can’t even pick a favorite. I do love how he kept mentioning that he had a tan, I laughed every time. The set of 10 plague finger puppets is both ridiculous and hilarious, and I will never get sick of Stephen’s adorable puns. The Claire McCaskill interview was great too – her and “Stephen” play really well off each other, and I loved her “John Boehner also has a tan” joke. What a great start to the week – so happy the show is back! :]

Great show. I can’t vote for just one segment. Sen. Claire McCaskill is a great guest.

First of all, I am loving all the puns lately, or rather, Stephen cracking himself up over them. His reactions are very adorable.
Second, is it me, or did anyone else picture a scene from The Simpsons with Rod and Tod playing with the finger puppets? Yes, I know they are not Jewish, but it just seemed like something Flanders would buy for his boys.
Glad they’re back from break!!
