That’s a wrap: A post-Oscar look back at interviews with nominees

Despite the lack of a DaColbert Code to tell me which movies I was supposed to root for this year, I found myself watching the Oscars last night. First things first: congratulations to Kathryn Bigelow on her fantastic wins last night! I know the movie has its critics, but I was really impressed by The Hurt Locker; I thought it worked as a story, an entertainment, and a virtual handbook for acting and directing, and I was ecstatic over its win last night.

Since it’s been a quiet news day out there in the Colbert universe, I thought I’d post this little round up of Stephen’s interviews with people nominated for Academy Awards this year. Starting with our big winner, here’s The Colbert Report‘s visit from Academy Award-winning director and producer Kathryn Bigelow:

And here’s one more bonus interview for you, this one with Daniel Ellsberg. Dr. Ellsberg was not technically a nominee this year, but he was both featured in and the subject of the nominated documentary The Most Dangerous Man in America: Daniel Ellsberg and the Pentagon Papers. In my opinion, this was an excellent documentary that deserved better than the limited release it received.

What a great idea for a round-up :) And it’s a pretty impressive guest list when you look at it that way, too. Meryl Streep and Randy Newman were just so cool, and I invariably get all gushy over Morgan Freeman. I watched most of the Oscars last night, even though I hadn’t seen any of the films this year (really, I am a huge film buff, but aargh, time/money/babysitters). Definitely a few of those films will be going on my (very long) list.

Shout Out (Hey!): Thumb up 0

Frankly, this comment is not about the Oscars, however, I’m glad a friend of the show won the big awards!

What I really wanted to say was DB, Keep that picture for the banner. That’s the best!! He is so friggin’ cute in that pic.

That Grammy pic up top (isn’t it?) is very cute!

So wasn’t Kathryn Bigelow wearing a wriststrong bracelet last night? I moved closer to my TV to get a better look as she was giving her best director’s speech.

    Congrats to her!

Dude! Juan Campanella won for best foreign film. He was a frequently used director on Strangers with Candy. He directed one of my favorite episodes, the illiteracy episode.
    Congrats Juan.

I didn’t hear his name when they announced it, so I didn’t realize that it was Juan that won. But when Stephen mentioned it on the show tonight, I cheered. That is so awesome! Congrats Juan!
Every time I hear his name I always think of the SWC commentary, and Stephen mentioning something Juan had said – “My God…it’s all bulls**t! You exercise, you age well.” haha! Oh, and “The Blank Page” is a favorite SWC ep of mine as well. :D

Oh, that’s one of my favorite moments from the SWC commentary!! I was just recounting it to my husband during the Olympics :)

It’s one of my favorite moments too – I just love Stephen’s accent when he says it ha :]

I think that’s from the “Hit and Run” episode…now I want to go home and watch it.
