Colbert Report Episode guideEPISODE NUMBER: 6027 (February 24, 2010)
GUESTS: Mike Eruzione, Scott Hamilton, Ryan St. Onge and Jeret “Speedy” Peterson
SEGMENTS: Cold War Update: Olympic edition, Stephen Colbert’s Freud Rage – The Iceman Counseleth
VIDEOS: Wednesday, February 24, 2010

Before we get into the guide today, I’d like to issue a hearty congratulations to the Women’s US Speedskating relay team – Allison Baver (Sinking Spring, PA), Kimberly Derrick (Memphis, TN), Alyson Dudek (Hales Corners, WI), Lana Gehring (Glenview, IL) and last but not least, friend of the show Katherine Reutter (Champaign, IL). They’re bringing home the bronze for the 3000m Relay event yesterday. Way to go ladies!

I thought the Mike Eruzione was short, sweet, and definitely to the point. And Scott Hamilton looked fabulous in the fireplace. I know there was a meeting between Stephen Colbert and Johnny Weir while he was in Vancouver, so Stephen is fully aware of the high quality of Weir’s fabulousness.

There were so many great moments in the Freud Rage segment, I had a hard time deciding what to cap. But I went with Stephen poking Tucker Fredricks in the eye because that was so very, very wrong. And I laughed accordingly. I also got a huge kick from the motivational speech to Tucker’s backside. “You’re gonna want to SQUEEZE, and then push.” I wish I could have seen Tucker’s face during the filming of that segment.

PollDaddy has updated their software and I can’t seem to get the poll to work the way I need it to, so we’re going to have to skip the poll for today (boo). Here’s hoping they get that fixed soon – it’s one of my favorite parts of the guides! But please voice your opinion in the comments as to your favorite part of the show, and why.

Stephen Colbert pokes Tucker Fredricks in the eye

  • Engine room, this is the captain. Hold steady at 3800 fathoms.
  • Yeah, maybe [Evan] Lysacek didn’t land a quad, but he skated a perfect program, all while fighting off what appears to be the world’s most glamorous snake attack.
  • If awards Plushenko himself the platinum, we must give Lysacek the unobtanium.
  • What about Johnny Weir. I thought he did a great job. Why was he scored so low? Is there – and be honest here, you know these people – is there an anti-”fabulous” vote going on out there?
  • This is the kind of access that only $300,000 of other people’s money could buy.
  • And how does that make you feel?
  • Everyone wants you to win except for everyone you compete against.
  • You know what? F#%k ‘em. F#%k these people.
  • Alright, Lauren, what does this look like to you? It’s a naked lady.
  • That was a touchdown of skating home runs!
  • Don’t trust me! The world is trying to hurt you, okay? Now do you understand?
  • You’re not just any ass, you’re an Olympic ass. Remember that.
  • And I don’t even have a physique under here!
  • Speedy, there’s a word for that. We call that an addiction. These people, we told you this was an interview. This is actually an intervention. All these people love you and care about you, and we’re not letting you two leave here until you admit you have a problem.
  • Wait a second, is the tequila for you or for your mom?

Comments

  1. So jealous that Mitch Whitmore gets a loooooong hug from Stephen! :)

And I think Tucker Fredericks is still mad about Stephen calling his mom a cheater, haha.

  2. Erika says:

After Katherine Reutter, Tucker Fredericks has to be my favorite speed skater of the bunch just because he works so well alongside Stephen. It’s too bad he had to slip in his race, otherwise he could have had a good chance.

Scott Hamilton is the person who got me into figure skating and I’ve never quite taken to it the same way since he left. I’m glad Stephen mentioned that he used to do a flip…I remember thinking that was SO cool when I was little.

    Another great Vancouverage episode!

Evidently, Scott STILL does backflips (!!), but I can’t remember where I saw the clip the other day, or I’d post a link.

  3. Jennie says:

No poll – on one of the view days when I knew exactly what segment to vote for. The Freud Rage segment had me giggling non-stop and I’m so glad you capped the poke in the eye. Way too funny.

  4. You might see in my history here that I vote on the poll almost everyday even if I don’t comment. Today the vote goes to Hamilton cause he’s one of my past heroes since I used to skate. Boitano went to my school and we skated at the same rink before he moved to a new coach. I used to get in trouble for speed skating with the hockey players who were finishing practice before the ice was re-smoothed for our classes. They didn’t want me to get hurt or to trash my figure skates but I didn’t care. My knees did finally get bashed up but it was from turning tricks. *wink* Scott Hamilton has his house full of framed kid art because children send him things all the time and he wants to honor that. Very cool. =)

LOL I loved the Fruedian picture of Stephen. So great in that cute little bowtie.

Tucker Fredericks has got to be the coolest speedskater out there. ahhaha. Love the guy. “I don’t trust you!” Ooooh dear.

      LMAO! That was my favorite!

    • I also laughed when Tucker emphasized “assistant” after Stephen explained that he’s there to help him in his capacity as assistant sports psychologist.

      “Yeah, assistant!” Hahahaha

They are doing a wonderful job combining all the footage from Canada with the in-studio interviews and segments. Looks like they have more than they can use because Mike E’s interview was edited waaay short! :) Hope they post extras on the website.

Love Stephen’s interactions with the skaters- and that no matter how much I have been “spoiled” from coverage last week, I am still shocked and surprised with new scenes! I could watch Stephen dance and cheer all day long! “Let’s go make some winners!”

  7. Michele says:

    Tucker Fredericks… LMAO!

  8. wren says:

Ok, I admit it. I watched the eye-poke bit 3 times in a row. And I laughed harder each time. Does that make me a bad person?

  9. Laaaura says:

Freud Rage was just absolutely hysterical! I just watched it online two more times and was dying. Tucker was so funny! lmao at Stephen poking him in the eye and Tucker’s, “I don’t trust you!”

  10. Balogna! says:

“Do you trust me? *poke* Don’t trust me!”

I think I should like to read TCR in script form.

sorry stephen… im pretty sure gluteus maximus doesn’t flex… it extends and laterally rotates the hip. But still, the spirit of the conversation is as relevant as ever :) Loved the sports psychologist segment!

Congrats to the Women’s US Speedskating team! That relay race was awesome to watch!

The Freud Rage segment was so ridiculously funny! I just love watching Stephen interact with the speedskaters, and I laughed SO hard when he was talking with Tucker Fredricks. Tucker played so well off of Stephen, and I kept wondering what his reaction was when Stephen gave a pep talk to Tucker’s backside, haha. :P
I liked the interview with Ryan St. Onge and Jeret Peterson as well. But that Freud Rage segment was just massive! Just thinking of the image of Stephen in a Sigmund Freud beard still makes me laugh.
