Colbert Report Episode guideEPISODE NUMBER: 6025 (February 22, 2010)
GUESTS: Ed Colbert, Ujjal Dosanjh, Shaun White
SEGMENTS: The ‘Colbert Report’ Exclusive Vancouverage of the 2010 Quadrennial Cold Weather Athletic Competition: Defeat The World!, Better Know A Riding – Ujjal Dosanjh
VIDEOS: Monday, February 22, 2010

What a fantastic week for ‘Colbert Report’ fans – not only are we getting new shows, but they’re Vancouverage shows! Whoo! And we finally get to see the lovely sweater-pants combination we’ve been teased with all last week in glorious high-def color! It’s always fun to see Stephen’s brother Ed on the show, and his “We’ll sue you!” refrain was cracking me up. And when Stephen mention the ice penis zombies, he vocalized what we were all thinking when we first saw them. Well, plus adding “Zombies” at the end.

We also got to see the “Better Know a Riding” segment, which I thought was most excellent. American politicians are quite familiar with Colbert’s schtick, so seeing Ujjal Dosanjh so puzzled by Stephen’s reaction, and responding without the usual wink and nudge was just fantastic. “I won’t yell.” Ha!

The Shaun White interview was seriously wonderful. When Shaun made the comment about the figure skaters wearing those outfits and still not winning made me laugh until I cried. Shaun seems like he’d be a lot of fun to just hang out with.

So what were you excited about to see tonight? And are you as pumped about the rest of the week as I am?

Shaun White and Stephen Colbert on the Colbert Report

  • I promise you, you all just won a gold medal in stroking my ego.
  • Yes, we are here in Canada, or as I like to call it, Europe with normal toilets.
  • What if it was just 5 interlocking triangles?
  • What if I tried something like this, Jim? “The ‘Colbert Report’ Exclusive Vancouverage of the 2010 Quadrennial Cold Weather Athletic Competition: Defeat The World! Brought to you by Verizon Wireless – they paid for our trip.”
  • But first, I just have to talk about the opening ceremonies – an extravaganza filled with beautiful imagery, moving theatrics, and a warm salute to Canada’s first nations, and their legendary heroes, the ice penis zombies.
  • On the plus side, something was frozen in Vancouver.
  • It’s all here in my English to English dictionary.
  • I don’t see race, but I do see people who don’t look Canadian.
  • USA #1! USA #1!
  • I apologize that your culture offends you.
  • Too late, I already killed you. That’ how fast bears are.
  • The bears can shoot us, but we can’t shoot the bears, that’s what you’re saying.
  • Nobody saw that coming other than anyone who pays attention to your sport.
  • They should just hand you a medal as you walk off the plane.
  • Stephen: You guys get judged by judges and figure skaters get judged by judges. How come you guys don’t burst into tears when you’re done? What is the difference in temperament do you think there?
Shaun White: I imagine they gotta be sitting there like, “I wore this outfit and I still didn’t even win.”

i really enjoyed this episode! but it doesnt even feel like he’s been off the air for a week bc of all the NFZ vancouverage ;)

(jsyk, it’s ‘Shaun White’, not Shawn or Sean. :) )

and i winced a few times at the BKAR segment. reminded me of the earlier BKADs where people were more unaware of what stephen’s game was.

Thanks – I’m really lousy at spelling that early in the morning!

I’ve fixed his name in the poll (although it might take a few minutes for it to show up).

Loved the interview with Shaun White. He seemed to take the character in stride and just be himself! Perfect way to deal with “Stephen.” Very fun!

I enjoyed the back and forth between studio and Vancouver. I was wondering how they would handle the transitions and all of the escapades we have been hearing about in Canada. Can’t wait for the rest of the week! I wonder if that makes for some lighter work since TCR didn’t really get a “break”–I hope so!

    loved it!

i thought ursanj was getting a bit frustrated in some of his cutaway shots, especially with the cast thingie…

shaun white is very witty and funny. that was an easy interview for colbert…

    good work copywrite lawyer/brother! :)

I can’t decide! It’s impossible for me to pick a favorite segment. From beginning to end, it was perfectly wonderful. Love the segues, “Over to you, Steve”. His brother was great, as is the title they came up with – so funny.

Loved the Better Know a Riding. And the article he wrote about it proves he’s an amazing guy. Shaun White was also really fun.

It gave me chills to see the overhead shots of the crowds in Vancouver taken by the GoodYear blimp! How awesome this all is, and how I’m going to enjoy the rest of the week!

I love that whenever he does a toss to himself, he always calls himself “Steve.” It makes me think of the Tom Hanks bit, “People generally call me ‘Stephen,’ not ‘Steve.’” HA!

AWE ED! haha! Ed is awesome, i love his appearances on the show. I bet he’s diggin’ being in Vancouver with his brother. haha.

It was nice to see the BKAR again, it wasn’t as bad this time. That’s probably cause they cut some out, though.

When he tossed over to Creekside Park Steve, i lol’d so hard. It was SOO awkward when they were taping it.

Seeing overhead shot was mindblowing for me. I had no idea there were THAT many people there! I guess that’s what’ll happen when you’re near the front of the crowd. How cool is it that I was technically on TCR last night? Also: i think i saw my head at one point… hahaha!

I’d totally have a Canadian beer with Stephen and Shaun White! I’ve always loved Shaun, as a snowboarder, I can’t help but love the guy. Hah, even if he is on the American olympic team…

    God i love that outfit…

  8. Just can’t vote today!

    U loves Ed

  9. friedthing says:

I had to vote for Shaun White because he cracked Stephen up so many times, and because it’s so satisfying when the interviews just sort of flow easily like that and the guest is funny without trying to be funny. Every part was fantastic, though.

I also never managed to hear what the first Table of Contents joke was (about 2,010 games in two weeks) until now because all you hear in audience members’ videos is insane cheering (rightfully!).

He was pretty brutal with the MP, though, so I’m glad to hear he could take it :).

And the “rings on their sides” was funny… for some reason.

So much good stuff, can’t wait for tonight’s episode!!!

What a gleeful episode! I loved it! I debated not voting b/c I enjoyed each segment so much. I think Ed Colbert should visit more often. For me, the ballsiest part of the Riding interview was the choose against caste vs. born gay argument. However, I ended voting for the interview with Shaun – it’s obvious Stephen enjoyed himself, and I was laughing myself silly. I think the clincher was the figure skaters’ lament.

I wondered how much I’d enjoy this week after devouring every spoiler that was posted. Oh, me of little faith!

A great episode!! The Better Know a Riding was brutal! Haha. And the Shaun White interview was a lot of fun. I loved Stephen tossing over to himself *in Vancouver*

  12. jbirdNZ says:

I’m loving this Vancouverage! I had to vote for Ed, as I like the idea of Stephen’s brother appearing again and I wish he would appear more and any other of his siblings that can contribute.

  13. Roseha says:

I went with Shaun White, just because of the way he was making Stephen almost lose it. How often does that happen? But I loved seeing brother Ed again in another unexpected appearance.

I love this alternate universe thing Stephen has going with “being in Vancouver.” I especially loved the TOC line: “It’s 11:30 at night and the sun’s out – no wonder they don’t have any snow!”

  14. lockhart43 says:

His brother Ed was so fantastic! I laughed every time he said, “I’d sue you!”
After getting so many bits and pieces of the coverage last week, it’s so wonderful to see how they put it all together. And I love Stephen’s “Vancouver” set back in NYC. It makes total sense for the show that he would pretend to still be there even after he’s left. :P
The Shaun White interview was great! It made me smile to see how much Stephen was enjoying himself and laughing during the whole interview. And that figure skating joke had me laughing SO hard!
I loved the whole episode, but I had to vote for the BKAR segment. The way he laid into Dosanjh, especially the caste system comment (and the way that Stephen made reference to it two other times in the interview) was pure genius. But the best part of the whole thing was the fact that for as much of a jerk as Stephen was being throughout the interview, Dosanjh was totally playing along with it. It may be the best Better Know that I’ve ever seen. :D
So freaking excited for the rest of the week!
