Weekend Brunch

Weekend BrunchWelcome to our (mostly) weekly discussion group to talk about Stephen, our lives, our friendships with each other, and pretty much anything you’d like to talk about with other readers of No Fact Zone, what we here affectionately call “the Zoners”.

Good Morning, Zoners! Today’s brunch was a tasty egg sandwich with a glass of Orange Juice. We’re not doing the extravagant brunches so much anymore since I’m doing Weight Watchers. Four weeks in, and I’m down 10.2 pounds! Yay me!

It’s been a crazy few weeks for me in my tragically hip loft. This weekend in Dallas is the NBA All Star Game, and the biggest party of the weekend, the LeBron James/Drake party, was held at the AMPM lounge in my building. So I didn’t get much sleep on Friday night. Due to the noise factor, we ended up just hanging out outside of our building, and I ended up being able to help Jaime Foxx over the patio barrier. So that was my brush with fame. I would have preferred a good night’s sleep, but it wasn’t a bad second. The husband and I are planning on moving within the building, and we found an amazing unit on the 23rd floor that’s open and ready for move-in, so we’ll be cleaning and getting ready for the move, which will happen over the next two weekends. Thank goodness that the show is dark this week so I’ll have a little more time to clean and pack.

I hope everyone had as much fun as me last night watching our US Speedskating team last night. With Apolo Ohno and J.R. Celski winning the silver and bronze at the the Men’s 1500m event, and the Women’s team (including Katherine Reutter) advancing in the 3000m Relay, the night was definitely action packed. Here’s a video of Celeski’s mom and dad thanking the Colbert Nation for their support, which I thought was amazingly cool.

We’ll keep you informed of all of the key US Speedskating events as they unfold. We are so proud of you, US Speedskating team! We wear our Colbert Nation speedskating hats proudly!

So what do all of you have planned for this next week of no new shows? Hopefully you are all going to be watching the Olympics, and watching Stephen Colbert on NBC with Bob Costas on Wednesday, February 17th.

Good luck on the move, DB! I’m going to have to go through that internal debate (to move or not to move) soon enough, and I know it’s always a huge undertaking. You’re going to love the new place, though, I have no doubt.

I’m just back from a belated birthday lunch, so I had chicken lemongrass to your egg and orange juice, but I’m afraid I don’t have a recent “brush with celebrity” story to match yours.

Thanks so much for the video from the Celskis, that was adorable. I was watching J.R.’s race last night, and I thought he did an amazing job. His race in the semifinals was fantastic; I was so impressed with his ability to thread his way between skaters on the pass and to keep control of his place in the front of the pack once he got there.

    Go, Colbert Nation!

Shout Out (Hey!): Thumb up 0

  2. lockhart43 says:

Congrats on the weight loss, DB!

Thanks for that video! Btw, I noticed you added an extra ‘e’ in Celski’s name right above the video. :)
Hearing Celski’s parents thank Stephen and Colbert Nation is too cool. I truly would not be as excited about the Olympics this year if it hadn’t been for Stephen. And Speedskating was so exciting last night! J.R. Celski ‘s semifinal race was fantastic, and that final race was just crazy awesome.

With both TDS and TCR in reruns this week, I’ll be watching a lot of Olympic coverage, and looking forward to Stephen reporting with the NBC team. And I cannot wait to see him on “Faces of America” this week! I watched the episode they aired last Wednesday, and really enjoyed it.

  3. colbaby says:

Aww, I hope Stephen gets to see that video or else meet the Celkis. It made me feel warm and fuzzy to hear them be so appreciative of Stephen and the Nation. “Stephen Colbert is a great American.” Indeed he is, sir. Indeed he is.

I also noticed last night that Katherine Reutter’s dad was wearing a Colbert Nation hat. Too cool.

Thank God the show is dark this week! I was worried about the timing.

That is wonderful of the Celski’s to thank Stephen and Colbert Nation! What an awesome opportunity Stephen has given us to support our Olympic athletes and their silver medalist son. I am so proud!

  6. Michele says:

Congrats on the weight loss, DB! That’s wonderful!

I watched some of the speedskating last night. Watched the 5000 m and saw Ohno and Celski win medals in the short track. I actually like the Winter Games much more than the Summer Games so I’m enjoying watching what I can.

Most of my week will be dedicated to caring for my mother who had the mitral valve in her heart replaced last week. Hopefully she’ll be released from the hospital in a couple more days. And I discovered yesterday that TWC has finally added CC HD to their lineup here so I’ll get to enjoy the shows in HD when they come back. :-)

Michele, I hope your mother has a speedy, full recovery. My mom has been told she’ll need valve replacement surgery, too.

Thanks, Juice! It’s been a stressful week but hopefully she’ll be discharged soon. She’s been dealing with atrial fibrillation for several years that they haven’t been able to correct. They were going to do an ablation procedure and found the damaged valve during a pre-ablation echo. She had the robotic surgery which is much less invasive than full open chest surgery but they still treat those patients like they do any other heart surgery patient. And they did the ablation as well. I hope all goes well with your mom too! :-)

DB, congratulations on your weight loss, the upcoming move, and your brush with fame. I can think of worse ways to lose a night’s sleep!

I struggled to stay awake last night, so I just missed the speed skating finals. I’m glad Ohno and Celski won medals, and how wonderful to hear the Celski video. They’re absolutely right: Steohen Colbert IS a great American!

  9. EveArdenFan says:

What time is Stephen on NBC Wednesday? I hope not 8pm eastern, because that’s when Faces of America is on!

Shout Out (Hey!): Thumb up 0

    • lockhart43 says:

When I watched the first Faces of America episode last week, they replayed it again at 1 or 2am. So if Stephen is on during the 8pm slot, you should still be able to see it. PLUS, they re-air the nightly Olympic coverage in the AM. :D

Shout Out (Hey!): Thumb up 0

    • friedthing says:

Plus, the entire Faces of America episode will be on their website starting on Thursday. That’s how I watched the first one!

Thanks! I’ll probably watch the olympics and save Faces of America for Thursday on the computer.

Congrats on the weight loss, DB! That’s great news!

Oh…for some reason, I didn’t know that the shows were in reruns this week! That’s a shame, I’ll miss ‘em. What time is Stephen going to be on NBC on Wednesday? I hadn’t heard about that yet. Can’t wait for “Faces of America,” though. It was really interesting last week! =D

  11. I’m hating that my cable company doesn’t have NBC so I can’t keep up with the Olympics. I’ve been flipping through the sports channels but I only see basketball, UFC, boxing, and soccer. So thank you so much to my tweeps for the updates! Big hugs to all of you!

    Congrats to Team USA!

    • ColbertGirl27 says:

What kind of cable company doesn’t have NBC? Sorry. That’s no fun!

Shout Out (Hey!): Thumb up 0

      • The kind that also pulled TDS and TCR and replaced them with sucky shows! :( We don’t have Comedy Central in the Philippines, so some cable channels carry some shows from specific networks (like one channel carries the Today Show but we actually don’t have NBC). I’ve been watching online since December when I found out that the shows were gone. I try my best to keep up with the games, thanks to the Internets and my tweeps :)

Solar tv showed some of NBC’s coverage of the olympics. I was able to watch Freestyle skiing and Figure skating earlier today. No speedskating, though. :(

Hurray DB! Keep up the good work! Moving between apartments will help you earn “activity” points! :)

@Michele and Juice, my thoughts and prayers are with you.

So excited for all the upcoming Olympic coverage. I feel as though we might be hearing little snippets of info once Stephen and the rest of his staff get settled in Vancouver this week! How can the fun not trickle down?!

Congrats to all the winners so far!

Shout Out (Hey!): Thumb up 0

  13. Smashley says:

I live just south of Seattle, and closer than Federal Way where the boys are from! If I thought I could make it to Vancouver and back and not interrupt work stuff, I’d SO be going!!

    *sigh*

I just caught up on the past week of the Report, and I laughed so much. I will miss it this week, but am looking forward to Faces of America and Stephen’s coverage on NBC as well! hehe!

Congrats on the weight loss DB! interesting brush with fame!
its always funny to me now when i see people who are celebrities because I always think of something Rob Thomas said. Someone asked him if he was “someone famous” and he replied, “well no, not in your world!” and so now, my idea of celebrity is quite altered. Still cool to see people that you dont usually see though. I dont get too much of that anymore…
Best of luck on the move! I hope its even more hip than your current place! = )

Hope the boxing & unboxing is going well, DB! At least your tragically hipper digs are in the same building, that’s got to make it easier.

I’ve been hooked on the Olympics (waaay too many commercials in the coverage, bah!). My favorites are short track (I just about have a heart attack every single race, it’s so exciting!!), alpine, half-pipe, and figure skating, of course.

Also, yay Apolo Ohno & Bode Miller! Looking forward to seeing the Chinese duo in the figure skating freestyle tonight – they were amazing!

Shout Out (Hey!): Thumb up 0

    • lockhart43 says:

I’m rooting for the Chinese duo in figure skating tonight, as well. And every speedskating event has been wonderful. The race with Ohno and Celski was so exciting!

I have been totally hooked on the Olympics so far, and I really can say that it’s because of Stephen and the great coverage on TCR. Stephen single-handedly got me excited for the Olympics, ha! :)

  15. Thanks soooo much for posting this video. I have more coming in the next few days talking to more parents about the Colbert Nation sponsorship. They are all SO appreciative, SO happy, SO thankful to everyone’s support and donations.

“Stephen Colbert is a great American!”
