EPISODE NUMBER: 6023 (February 10, 2010)
GUESTS: Claire Danes
SEGMENTS: Colbert Report’ Action Eyewitness Weather War Bunker Center Weather Zone, Better Know A District – Illinios 5th – The Fightin’ Fifth!: Mike Quigley
VIDEOS: Wednesday, February 10, 2010
I had to laugh at the Weather Zone segment due to the fact of what I’m looking at outside my window here in downtown Dallas as I blog. We are having our own Texas Snowpocalypse, in the fact that we can see snow in the air and it is sort of accumulating a little bit in spots. Trust me, in Texas, that’s a HUGE thing. I bet half the people where I work stay home due to “inclement weather” today. Also, I would like to state for the record that I will never get tired of Stephen drawing Snoopy.
This was a massive ‘Better Know a District’. The improv scene was hysterical (“It’s a snake”), and I enjoyed watching Stephen talking about gay babies.
After Tropic Thunder, I can never see a role like the one Claire Daines plays in ‘Temple Grandin’ without thinking that she went full … well, you know what she went if you’ve ever seen that movie. Is that wrong that Ben Stiller has warped my world view like that? That being said, it does look like a very interesting movie.
What did you all enjoy about tonight’s episode?

- For more on this continent swallowing storm, let’s check in with the ‘Colbert Report’ Action Eyewitness Weather War Bunker Center Weather Zone!
- I am proud to introduce our latest advancement in infomation, the Dopplest 9000 radar. Others may be doppler, mine is the dopplest.
- You see, the Dopplest allows me to predict accurately when it is going to be sunny, when it is going to be rainy and when it is going to be Snoopy.
- That is simple observational research. Whatever just happened is the only thing that is happening. Ask any peek-a-boo-ologist.
- It’s a lot of fun, although families might want to steer clear of the kid’s menu.
- Sounds like someone had a college internship at the Weiner Circle.
- We’re on the moon now, we’re on the moon. Hi, it’s Sammy Sosa, and … scene!
- Have you decided what prison you want to go to?
- I don’t see race, but I do see gay.
- Stephen: Gay babies. I find it offensive, the idea that there are gay babies. That babies out there are looking at me and are sexually interested in me as a man.
Quigley: You’ve got a point. It’s not a good point, but you have a point. - How do you hope to embarrass your district?
- So I have her to thank for my constant intake of beef?
- Yeah, a good experience until it becomes the worst possible experience. Because I empathize with my dog, and I’m not sure whether my idea of expressing my affection would be to open a puppy slaughterhouse.
- Yes, you’re very old.
- We need someone who can efficiently kill animals. You know who would be great at that? Claire Danes!
My absolute favorite thing about last night had to be that he brought out his old classic line about thinking you’re a bee and then trying to thrash yourself through a keyhole. I think it’s cute when he callbacks to something he did with Amy and Paul. I wonder if all the improv reminiscing made him want to? I thought the “scene” he did with the congressman was massively hysterical as well.
I always just say it along now….and SNOOPY!

“How do you hope to embarrass your district?” ahahah, he’s so quick!
I fell asleep before the show, managed to wake up in time to see Better Know A District, then fell back asleep during the next commercial. lol. And now I can’t watch the videos on colbertnation, because my work computer is telling me adobe flash needs to be updated. Sad. Now I have to wait til I get home to watch the first segment with the screen where he draws Snoopy haha.

Well, it’s snowing here in Italy – so I think this cooling is global. Peek-a-boo-ologist LOL!
Loved the BKAD on so many levels – there’s nothing quite like Chicago politicians these days. They really keep old school politics alive. And the improv scene was way too funny.
I remember reading a magazine article about Temple Grandin over 10 years ago and have never forgotten it. A very fascinating person who made major contributions into our understanding in many fields, including autism and animal behavior. I wish Claire Danes could have explained that more clearly.
Captcha: buxom Mr – sounds like a Chicagoan / Twinkie!

I will never, ever get sick of him drawing Snoopy on his fancy HD screen. I knew as soon as he walked over to it that it was going to happen eventually. :]
I think the BKAD is one of my favorites he’s done. Quigley played along so well, and I loved the dig he got in at Stephen, “You’ve got a point. It’s not a good point, but you have a point.” haha! Plus, that improv was just awesome, and I loved the Strangers With Candy (AND Exit 57) reference! I won’t lie that I cheered when he said it.
And DB, I do agree with you about Tropic Thunder and Claire Danes. That will definitely be in my head now whenever I watch last night’s interview. :P
I’m just throwin’ this out there, but is it just me, or did Stephen’s hair look particularly magnificent last night?

His hair is getting positively Tek Janseny. Can’t decide on my favorite part from last night. He’s just seems so happy this week, it’s fun to watch him.

Ohh you’re so right! Definitely Tek Janseny, I love it.

omg that was the first thing i thought of when i saw the clip from the film, did she go full “word that rahm emanuel can’t say but limbaugh can” or was it just the right amount :)
i knew he was gonna do the snoopy- its now like an inside joke between him and loyal viewers!!
all in all great episode

I loved the Claire Danes interview, but I’d rather see an interview with Temple Grandin. She’s amazing. And, since I’m from Chicago, I love it anytime someone fives a Chicago politician a hard time. Quigley did handle it well, though. I guess if you’re in Chicago politics, you’d better have a sense of humor.

Snoooopy!! And that was such a fun BKAD. Hurrah for Chicago! :D

Stephen did something during the BKAD that my brother also does, so I was yelling at the TV “stop channeling my brother!!” Yes, I’m insane. But it was a hilarious segment, and I loved the SWC callback.
I’m glad I’m not the only one saying “Snoopy” right along with him. I love how drawing Snoopy has become a running gag.
The mood was very silly last night. The weather must’ve gotten to everyone!
reCAPTCHA: in blizzard. Hah!! How’s that for appropriate?

BKAD is my favorite segment on the show, so I had to vote for it, but I’m loving the on-going Snoopy gag. That’ll never get old.
And hurray for the toss! Long overdue, but worth the wait. I love it when a joke is so ridiculous, even Stephen can’t believe the words coming out of his mouth. “It looks good on you, though!”

Loved the Toss last night! “I thought you were wearing a ski mask made from an elephant’s scrotum.” hahaha! I always, always love it when Stephen says something ridiculous just to make Jon laugh.

bee in a keyhole. that’s one for the Colbert completists (with a lower-case c) and I was very amused.
before I sat down to watch this show, actually, I was reading a bit about the film Temple Grandin, and I had no idea who the guest would be, so that was an interesting coincidence. I was aware of her before, though I’m not sure how, and it’s cool that there’s now a movie.
I also love the can of can openers. :D

How is “bee in a keyhole” for the Colbert completists?
Shout Out (Hey!):

it showed up once in Strangers with Candy, in some gym class context I believe, and once or twice earlier than that, I think.

Yes, it was in the first episode of SWC, and even earlier than that in the “Troy and Laughton” sketch on Exit 57.
I think Tiger meant that by Stephen saying that specific line, he knew that there would be some completists out there who automatically knew where it was from. :)
reCAPTCHA: The Tramp. This just made me think of Charlie Chaplin. And I love Charlie Chaplin. :D

And why hasn’t anyone thought of a second aid kit before? I’ll take ten!
