Stephen Colbert on ‘Late Night with Jimmy Fallon’

Thanks for Katt for getting us these vids first thing in the morning! I’ve seen interviews of Stephen by many different people, and each time is a different experience. It almost seemed like Jimmy Fallon was using the Chris Farley Show method of interviewing. I won’t spoil it for you, but the end of Part II is the part that everyone will be talking about this morning. Jimmy still has a way to go with interviewing, but as far as physical comedy, he’s definitely got it.

Enjoy!

Thank you Stephen Colbert for acting like yourself on the show and not “Stephen Colbert” I appreciate it! Also, I thought it was sweet Stephen said he was a fan of Jimmy’s show :)

Thanks for posting this! Fallon is slowly starting to grow on me, he’s a lot different than Dave and Conan.

As I was watching, I thought: Stephen made Jimmy nervous – in a good way. I think Jimmy really looks up to him and respects him. When Stephen mentioned that “Late Night” goes all out every night it’s a bit like a mentor telling you– you gotta find what works for you. He’s been there, he knows. I love Stephen’s good nature- a really nice interview!

Really? I actually kind of thought Jimmy Maybe wasn’t a regular viewer of Stephen since he pronounced it ReporT. I could be wrong. If you watch Jimmy’s show regularly you will see he is always nervous. Ha

Good point, I thought maybe he mispronounced because he was nervous. Jimmy seemed much more at ease when they were walking and talking in the hallway and elevator. Maybe that’s why he has interactive activities away from the desk…he didn’t seem as nervous with those segments. But, hey, he’s still working it all out! :)

That was so awesome! “How long before we get down to the lobby?” “30 seconds” “Wanna wrestle?” “Yep”

I also thought it was cute how Stephen asked him how he think it went and Jimmy was like “it went great!” and Stephen was all “Really? I don’t think they knew who Clive Davis was.”

It was a pretty sweet interview all in all. Stephen was so kind to Jimmy even at mispronouncing ‘Report’, and I loved the story about his daughter and her “prom date” Richie Sambora.

  5. “Wanna wrestle?” Hahahaha that was so totally random.

That was adorable. Jimmy was obviously a huge fan and Stephen was a very gracious guest.

Oh man, Jimmy’s story of him kissing Clive Davis on te cheek made me laugh so freakin’ hard.

That was a great interview! I loved the whole bit of them walking out of the building. The “wanna wrestle?” was so random and hysterical!

Thanks for posting these videos, because I completely forgot about this last night.

Although Stephen was naturally in the spotllight, loved Jimmy’s Clive Davis story as well. Sounds like something I would do. Haha.

That was fun, and Stephen was marvelous! I think he’s such a sweet guy. I have to agree that Jimmy has a ways to go with interviewing technique. He’s still getting used to having the spotlight shine primarily on him for an extended length of time.

Hello Roland & fellow zoners! I’ve been lurking here for almost a year & finally there’s a question that I know the answer too! The “Real American” song, that the Roots played Stephen on with was Hulk Hogan’s 2nd WWF theme song after “Eye of the Tiger.”
And yes, I’m embarrassed I know that.:)

Thanks for the info on the music — you found the wrap-around point to the joke, making it that much more hilarious.

      Also, *great* name. Welcome! ;)

Hey Mr.Arkadin…I forgot to post that song title. It took me a while to figure it out…but Stephens reaction to it was priceless.

I nearly coughed up a lung laughing at the “Wanna wrestle?” Brilliant! And SC was so cute being driven away in the carriage.

“Wanna wrestle?” ahahaha! Loved that so much. I had a feeling they were going to do something at the end of the interview, especially since Jimmy kept referring to the fact that Stephen had to get back to do his own show. Jimmy Fallon bugged me a bit when he first took over Late Night, but I really think he’s come into his own and is more comfortable, and I thought it was adorable the way Stephen talked about how he thought Jimmy was doing a great job. Plus, how cute were Stephen’s stories about his kids’ reactions to the Grammys? Loved the one he told about his 8 year-old’s reaction to Pink’s performance, “Oh, she’s naked. Well, that’s gross.” HA!

I had never watched Jimmy before, but while he does seem new at this – I think his monologue is actually the biggest problem – I actually enjoyed the interview a lot. I did notice on re-watching how Stephen kept turning to the audience to explain things to them as well, perhaps realizing that it would help them get more into the stories. But it was so nice to see him out of character and while Jimmy is inexperienced at interviewing he’s also very nice and doesn’t try to “top” his guests. I think it was good they had the Grammys to talk about since I imagine Jimmy’s interested in that sort of thing. I liked the Roots: “Our Grammy’s broken.” That ending with the carriage was also very cute.

Oh BTW I loved that Stephen was able to work in an NBC zinger re poor Conan. I was hoping he would.

He totes had the “Thumb (arrow)” thing sharpied on his hand from the previous sketch. That’s pretty great.

Also, they should have had a 30 Rock cameo when they brought that up, but ah well.
