52nd Annual Grammy Awards – Stephen Colbert WINS Grammy for ‘Colbert Christmas’

By DB on January 31st, 2010 ·

Stephen Colbert Shows Off iPhone 2010 Grammy-Awards

It’s Grammy night, which means glamour, glitz and Gaga. Speaking of which, Stephen Colbert was interviewed on the red carpet by E! magazine and was quoted as saying about Lady Gaga’s next outfit “They’re just gonna spray her with glue and run her through a Build-A-Bear workshop.”

Stephen Colbert’s lovely daughter Madeleine was adorable with Stephen in the opening monologue, showing that just because her dad is on the Grammy Awards doesn’t mean he’s cool. And yes, Stephen finally got his iPad, only 57 days before they come out to the general public! A classic moment is when Stephen turned to Jay Z in the front row and said “Did you not get one of these in your gift bag?” Another nifty moment tonight – Stephen Colbert was trending on Twitter as of 8:50p EST.

But of course, what the fans were waiting on the most was the nomination for Comedy Album. And Stephen Colbert won! Finally, Madeleine thinks that her dad is cool. Way to go, Team Colbert!

Same here—we’ve been programmed to expect loss =D Grammy, Peabody, Emmy—what other awards does he need to get?

What an awesome night! I absolutely loved Stephen’s Grammy presentation. His daughter did an excellent job too. It was very cool that he included her.

I love that Stephen Colbert is currently a trending topic on twitter. It’s the first time I’ve seen him trend.

I’m so excited that Stephen won a Grammy! I was clapping and cheering from home when they announced it. My twitter timeline exploded with tweets from other excited fans. Congratulations, Stephen!

I was all prepared to shake my fist and cry “Spinal Taaaaaapppp!” So glad I didn’t have to. I guess his Emmy and his Peabody are about to get a new neighbor. Huzzah! :)

Yay!!! I was so excited that I cheered and jumped up, and dropped my laptop in the process. Whoops.

His reaction was great and the award well-deserved. Congrats Stephen!

NICEEEEEEEEEEEE!
I do not follow the Grammy’s so I wouldn’t know the competition he beat out but I don’t think much can beat ‘A Colbert Christmas!”

I figured the only competition he would have would be George Lopez or Spinal Tap. But you’re so right – how do you compete with the awesomeness that is A Colbert Christmas? I loved how happy Patton Oswalt (fellow nominee) was that Stephen won!

I love Patton Oswalt…he did great work in Big Fan. That reminded me of DeNiro in Taxi

He was always hilarious on Reno: 911! and I love all of his specials.

I’ve been wanting to see that movie, I heard he’s really great in it. I think it’s out on DVD now though, I’m definitely going to have to rent it!

Hooray for Stephen! I’m so happy right now. He is very deserving of that Grammy. I love A Colbert Christmas!
I’m not too excited about the whole twitter trending thing though. Apparently some people don’t like him. I’m not reading any more of those! Don’t rain on our parade, Twitter people!
I think I’ll have to watch him win again tomorrow on my Tivo!

I am so happy too! Just posted on the other thread but the reaction between Stephen and his daughter was so great.

I have to say that IMHO the Grammys have become a somewhat confusing show in its presentation – all these elaborate numbers then they give important awards off the air (like lifetime achievement awards) – but not the case for Stephen. Congratulations again!

The funny part: Jon Stewart was part of a Grammy winning album.

Also how did Madeline become blonde? Both Stephen and his wife are brunettes i thought?

I thought it was like strawberry blonde but maybe she’s dying it?

Strawberry blonde? Hmm–perhaps Conan needs questioned!

Also—Taylor swift and Stevie Nicks=awesome.

When she was on The Daily Show (as part of a segment Stephen did), she had the same hair color and was only 8 or so. Maybe just a recessive gene?

Evelyn is a redhead, anyway a lot of blonde children have their hair get darker when they grow up (my hair did) :)

I love it that the music came on just as when Stephen was asking Madeline if he’s cool now. I think it made the moment sweeter. Congratulation! Balloon drop!

I just found the segment on Youtube (it’s all over the place, along with the IPAD bit) and you’re right, the music coming on at that moment is very sweet!

My reaction went as follows: “Don’t get your hopes up, don’t get your h– *SQUEE!* Stephen won! This is so awesome. Aw… he daughter thinks he’s cool now.”
I still have the biggest grin on my face.
He finally got the iPad? Off to watch that clip.

@ hodgmina Besides her hair I couldn’t get over how grown up she looked! And the dress was gorgeous. I know this site doesn’t like to focus on his kids, but he put her out there. So as long as the comments are decent, is it OK?

I think all the Zoners are being very respectful of Madeleine in their comments, so yes, it’s fine to talk about her being there at the show.

BTW here is a “backstage at the Grammys” article, in which Stephen says he held the IPad “for about five minutes”
