Before we go, let’s check in with our good friend Stephen Colbert of The Colbert Report…
Greetings, Zoners! It has now been five weeks since our last new Toss from The Daily Show. To help us through this very dark time, I’ve dug up the following Klassic Toss from June 2008, to help tides us over:
June 18, 2008; Daily/Colbert – Crossword Puzzle: Stephen solves the New York Times crossword puzzle with the word he coined.
This one gives me a good giggle, because they are clearly as excited as little boys that Stephen’s word made it to the Puzzle. Has anyone seen the film Wordplay? It’s a documentary about crossword puzzles and the people who enjoy them (it’s way more interesting than that makes it sound, trust me), and Jon is one of the celebrities interviewed about his obsession with Will Shortz and the Times Crossword. It’s fun; I recommend it.
I am jonesing to see the first High Definition Toss of the year, but until we get one I’ll just keep the Klassics coming.
Day 36 of Toss-Watch ’010. Not sure how much longer I can hold out….getting weaker…must..see..innuendo-filled..transitional segment…*gasp*

Hahahaha! Toss-Watch ’010. That’s brilliant!
This is EXACTLY how I feel right now. I really don’t think I can make it another week.

I thought, briefly, last night we would have one. When Jon started talking about the NBC late night debacle I thought Stephen might chime in via split screen with a vehement protest to John Oliver’s “new late night show” but alas…
All I want is to hear, “Before we go, let’s check in with our good friend Stephen Colbert…” Is that too much to ask!?!?!?!

I thought the same thing. I even got excited because the interview ended a little early, which is usually what happens when they’re going to do a Toss. I even thought Stephen might be in on the John Oliver part. But no. Not that the “new late night show” bit wasn’t funny…but it wasn’t a Toss.

Ha!! This is the first Toss that I ever saw!! Awesome. And yeah, it’s so adorable how excited they are about it. =)
I agree – we really, *really* need a Hi-Def Toss. Sigh.

I’m with colbaby, I don’t know how much longer I can make it! I wonder if the studio upgrades to HD have complicated the technical side of the Tosses.
I love Will Shortz’s Sunday Puzzles on NPR’s Weekend Edition. Wordplay has been on my to-watch list since it came out, but I still haven’t seen it. I forgot that Jon was in there, though I know he’s a real crossword nut.
(Funny story: back in college, I had a thing for this guy, in large part because I used to see him around town and on the bus, doing the NY Times crossword in pen, so I figured he must be a real smarty. Started dating him, and found that he just made lots of mistakes. *sigh* ;) )

Didn’t Jon propose to Tracey through the NY Times crossword? So romantic :)

Maybe you’re right, Wren, and the tosses are harder to pull off in HD? We’ll see one eventually I’m sure.
Thanks for showing this nerdygirl! I have looked at so many tosses on TDS site, but never saw this one. It’s hilarious.
I would so love it if they’d put all the tosses on DVD (as Stephen once joked in “Who’s the Toss?”)
