EPISODE NUMBER: 6003 (January 6, 2010)
GUESTS: Ezra Klein, Linda Douglass, Capt. Charles Moore
SEGMENTS: Health Care Bill discussion, Alpha Dog of the Week
VIDEOS: Wednesday, January 6, 2010
I’d like to thank Stephen and the writers for starting the show with sentiments that I deeply feel. While I have enjoyed the show in high-def on the ColbertNation.com Full Episode stream, I would love love LOVE to see it high-def on my fancy schmantzy wide screen as God intended. I want to see Stephen’s pores, dammit!
I really enjoyed the Alpha Dog of the Week segment. First, Domino’s focus group results were spot on. The last time I ate Domino’s, about five years ago, I’m pretty sure that the little plastic thing in the center would have tasted better. And the customer service was horrible to boot. But what I really enjoyed were the character breaks, and the audience’s reaction of horror that Stephen would actually eat Domino’s pizza.
I’ve heard a lot about the Floating Island of Garbage, and was hoping to see more about it, either pictures, or the effect on the environment. But I really don’t think that Capt. Charles Moore did a very effective job of giving the nutmeat of the matter about the threats of the island to the audience.
How did you enjoy the show tonight? And did the Alpha Dog segment make you think about the last time you had Domino’s?

This one is for YOU, Time Warner Dallas!
- Can’t see it? Try updating to high def.
- Ho-ho-horses#!t.
- Republicans won’t be able to contribute their valuable ideas like “no” and “nope”, and in an appeal to Latino voters, “nada.”
- By the way, world record? 43 seconds.
- We have a grown up political culture. Okay, we may not.
- Would you say that you are just following orders?
- Madam, you have never seen my show.
- I would never, never speak badly of any of their products, even though I know for a fact that one of them will kill you. Unfortunately, I can’t name names, so buy them all.
- Is that pizza, or did an angel just give birth in my mouth?
- So to recap: Domino’s old pizza’s cheese did not taste good, had no aroma, was not cheese.
- After all, we’re the human garbage cans who bought these trash disks by the millions. Domino’s is just advertising that they weren’t fit to wipe your ass with.
- I have tasted the new pizza, and there are so many things I would wipe with it.
- That’s a huge zone, this is actually called the Pacific Ocean.
That may have been the funniest ADotW ever (and not because I prefer Pizza Hut).

Sadly, my television provider isn’t carrying the show in HD, but I can make an educated guess as to the lovely hand signs Stephen was making at the beginning of the show. ;P
Ugh, the Alpha Dog segment did make me think of the last time I had Domino’s. Being a college student, I must have ordered it at least 4 times this past semester, which is absolutely vile now that I think about it. Was it just my TV, or does the new pizza look to be a vibrant shade of orange? :/ Anyway, I loved the character breaks as well. The segment was so well done.

Thank-you Stephen for giving cable operators not carrying CC in HD such a great “gift.” I couldn’t have said it better. Sadly, since Comcast in my part of Chicago has no plans to carry CC in HD I couldn’t see his thoughtful gestures. However, I was able to make a pretty good guess :)

I am one of the lucky few getting TDS and TCR in Hi Def. The show looks lovely. Well, it always did — now it just looks wide-screen lovely.
That Alpha Dog segment killed me. For the first year or so at my job, the owners bought lunch for all the employees every Tuesday and Thursday. The only problem is they bought Dominos Pizza. And they really got upset when they went to the trouble and expense to buy us all lunch, only to have most of us say “No thanks, I’ll go out for lunch today.” How do you tell your bosses, “Hey, thanks for the free crap?”
That collective gasp of horror from the audience as Stephen took a bite of the pizza reminded me of the noise the TDS audience made when Jon took a great big spoonful of Baconnaise.

Ugh… Domino’s Pizza. I remember the last time I had it…but I desperately want to forget! :) Funny segment. I love how Stephen went after the companies not carrying his channel in HD! I was wondering if he might say something or if it was spawned from a Q&A before the show. Either way, loved it!

I wondered that, too. Maybe they had already planned to do the segment anyway, but some people had asked about some of the companies not carrying the show in HD in the Q&A. Because the audience REALLY loved those hand signals, like the way they react when they’re in on the joke. At any rate, it was fantastic! :]

I guess I’m the only one that likes Domino’s. I think it’s the bomb. Now it’s even better. That being said, I’m younger so maybe I can handle it.

I like your comment. :)
I haven’t had Dominos in years but I went to school at U of Michigan, one of the founding locales of Dominos, so I ate plenty of it then. Actually it was Domino’s founder Tom Monaghan’s reactionary Catholic worldviews and weird false autobiography (he claimed he had been an orphan when he wasn’t) that stopped me eating the pizza.

What mystifies me is that in Canada, they’re broadcasting the show in standard-definition on a high-definition feed. It’s not like cable providers not carrying Comedy Central HD, it’s like if Comedy Central HD decided themselves to just keep broadcasting the show in standard-definition only.
The online video available to Canadians is in standard-definition too. Maybe it’s a contractual thing.

My sentiments exactly about cable companies (I’m looking at you Time Warner) who aren’t carrying the show in HD. And my computer system is ancient so no HD monitor here.
I haven’t eaten Domino’s pizza in several years but the memory still haunts me.

Bring on the HD edge-of-the-screen jokes. Those are fast becoming my favorite. Since I catch the eps on TDS/TCR websites, I feel that I’m getting the full experience.
Strangely though, the show isn’t widescreen when you watch it in Hulu. I wonder why that is. =/.

Since I have standard def, I went online today and re-watched the episode in widescreen just so I could catch Stephen’s lovely hand signals. Totally worth it. :)
Last night’s ep has got to be my favorite of the week so far, with the exception of the Olympic curling segment. I was so thrilled that he had Linda Douglass on via satellite to talk about Erickson’s ridiculous comments. And the ADofW has gotta be the best one I’ve ever seen, if only for the great character breaks!
I’m a little ashamed that I’ve never heard of the enormous island of floating garbage sitting in the Pacific Ocean, so I did enjoy the interview. But throughout the entire thing, I couldn’t help but think of an episode of Futurama where they shot a giant ball of garbage into space to stop another giant ball of garbage from crashing into Earth LOL.
I still cannot get over how amazing Stephen looks in HD. His suits even look more crisp. :P
By the way, love the screencap DB!

Does anyone else have a Mo Money Taxes in their town? The past two nights, during the last commercial break of the Report, this ridiculously long, ridiculously low budget ad for Mo Money Taxes has aired. It goes on for at least a full minute, and when it finally returns to the show, the credits are rolling. This stupid commercial keeps pre-empting Stephen’s last little joke at the end. Which means I didn’t get to see Woodstock, I didn’t get to “stay tuned for 23 1/2 hours…”. I have to wait til the next day to finish the show! I know it’s not much, but sheesh![/rant]
Hilarious show last night though. I’m sure the ending would have been great on a big screen. *bitter* If anyone finds an email address for Mo Money, please send them that screencap up above. For me.

About a year or so ago, the same thing was happening on my Comedy Central channel–local ads for a terrible lawyer team (I was missing not only the ending but, sometimes, parts of the second and third acts). I called Verizon FiOs to complain- giving them times it was occuring and the commercials that were interupting the program. It made a difference. Sometimes they are unaware if no one tells them.

Domino’s is newish chain here in New Zealand -as opposed to Pizza Hut- and perhaps because they source all their products locally that we seem quite like it down here. I had it 3 nights ago and we all enjoyed it. I still prefer our own Hell Pizza, which I believe has now opened up in Canada, so maybe the US is next. I know BlueRaven is also from NZ on this forum, I don’t know how her Domino’s experience is like.
I don’t get it -TCR is on late at night, on cable, yet still we get pixillation and swearing bleeped out. I would love to see SC flipping the bird and his genitalia bomb being waved about as they were meant to be this week. I mean it is for adults and all that would be shown quite happily down here.

You know, I was wondering if Stephen actually did flip the double-bird last night. When he pulled his hands back to center screen, his fists were already closed. I’m thinking the pixillating was part of the joke (but it would have been a hoot to see the genitalia bomb!).
That said, I can’t believe I can’t get either TCR or TDS in HD from iTunes – Applepious, my eye! Oh well, at least I’m saving money watching both shows on CC’s websites, as annoying as it is to endure the commercials.

Sorry, but I’d eat Dominos before I’d try Baconnaise. (Shudder!)

My dad prefers Domino’s because the crust isn’t as salty as the others. Then again, maybe they change the flavor of the pizza per country to cater to the local palate.
I hope Stephen will also give a gift to my cable channel that stopped carrying his show. Haha. But seriously, please bring Jon and Stephen back :(

I don’t think I have it in HD either, but I watch it online. I hook up my computer to my TV and can get it in widescreen glory!
The thing that makes me pissed is that the online versions are bleeped and pixellated, just like on TV. I want to see it uncensored, dammit.
At the risk of sounding a little perverted, it made me really angry when I couldn’t see the male genitalia, (i.e. penis bomb and Stephen’s license photo) especially when the audience can see it and they are laughing. It’s just not the same when it’s all pixellated.
