Backstage at the Report: Katherine Reutter

Greetings, Zoners, and a Happy New Year to all!

I love it when an afternoon spent wandering around the tubes of the Internet results in a serendipitous discovery. Recently I was poking around Katherine Reutter’s website, where I discovered both pictures and a journal entry from her visit to TCR back on December 14th! Hee!!

Stephen with Katherine Reutter and her autographed thigh

I still get the giggles when I recall Stephen’s reaction to Katherine’s request to sign her thigh, but apparently it was planned and he knew about it ahead of time. From Katherine’s journal:

Being on the Colbert Report was an absolute rush! I couldn’t believe that of all the skaters who have been having great seasons so far that he wanted ME on the show! I’d been nervous about it for weeks, but when I finally got there I realized how down to earth he and his crew are…

So I bet you’re wondering about the leg signing…. Yes, he knew it was coming; and it was my manager, Pat Quinn’s, idea. As soon as Pat suggested it I thought it was hilarious and got my sharpie ready. Amy, the talent coordinator on the show, told Stephen about my request and he was all for it! I have to wonder if he had made the connection that I wanted for him to sign my thigh on camera because he did such a good job at acting surprised when I asked! Either way I managed to fluster the man who is virtually un-flusterable. I’ve never seen anyone catch him so off guard before!

Heh. I’m guessing she’s never seen what Jane Fonda did to him. But I think that was the most flustered I’ve seen Stephen since the Fonda interview. I’m still amused at how long it took him to realize that he could come out from behind the desk to do the deed. Apparently he later added something other than his name — “Go for the gold” maybe? I can’t quite make it out, but that’s what it looks like.

Katherine also got to meet Snoop Dogg, but I hope she didn’t breathe too deeply when he was in the vicinity.

I can’t link directly to either the journal or the photo gallery on Katherine’s website, but head over to www.katherinereutter.com for more pics from her busy day in New York. You can also follow Katherine on Twitter (@katreutter).

Oh wow, that’s funny that he knew about the thigh signing, because he did seem really flustered. I love the picture with her, Stephen, and Snoop Dogg.

Haha! So he knew about it but perhaps he didn’t know that it would be *on the air*? Either way, loved seeing him flustered. :P Thanks for finding this!

That’s awesome! Thanks for the colbert update :)

I’ve been going through some old shows and I can’t believe I never saw the Martin Short interview before the time off. That was one of the most memorable interviews ever. Oh how I love that we now have digital footprints for all the shows. *now if only TDS pre-Stewart days would upload old Colbert footage.

I saw Martin Short at the Second City reunion and was really impressed with his talent and overall manners. He seemed like a great performer and person, very down to earth actually.

I’ve always loved Martin Short and thought was funny. He seems like a really nice guy, too. I’m jealous that you got to see him at the Second City reunion…okay, I’m still jealous that you got to GO to the Second City reunion, lol. :]

Ohh I would love to see Colbert footage of the TDS pre-Stewart days. I’m still looking for The Greatest Millenium online, sadly…still waiting to see that Dinosaur Stephen footage that they keep playing in all the fanvids.

Hmm, I’ve got The Greatest Millenium on my computer. I’m not very tech savvy, but maybe I can figure out how to send it to you.

Thank you SO much! You are so awesome! The video works great, and the quality is better than a lot of videos on youtube. I just watched Stephen’s segment early on in the show where he turns into Dinosaur Stephen LOL – “Put down the buggy whip Grampa!” I love it.
Thanks again for this! I truly appreciate it :D :D

God, does Katherine have great legs! I guess 24/7 olympic training is all it takes. No problem, I’ll get to working on that, after all, it’s the New Year.

That picture of Stephen and Katherine with Snoop Dogg is ridiculously hilarious! I can only imagine how much air freshener they used to get the smell out of his dressing room, lol.
Reading this makes me want to watch that interview again, just to see Stephen’s adorable reaction. :)
    By the way, LOVE the new banner! It’s Colbert-tastic! And Speedskating-tastic….so it’s Colbertskating-tastic :P
