We blogged about the “Faces of America” TV series featuring friend of the show Henry Louis Gates a few months ago. The show is schedule to start broadcasting in February, and here’s the first trailer about the show. My mother is a genealogy nut, and I absolutely love hearing about the history of people’s families, my own as well as others. I imagine this will be an amazing series, and I’m definitely going to put this on a TiVo Season Pass.
EDIT:
Here’s a longer preview video – thanks to Roseha for pointing it out!
Oh my gosh! I’m so excited to see this and I love that they saved the best for last on this promo;) Learning about Stephen’s family will be so amazing and, along with DB, I love genealogy in general!

So cool! I love this stuff. I forgot all about this series [and Stephen's participation]. Thanks for the update/reminder!

I love the expression on their faces when they discover stuff about their ancestors. It’s so moving and inspiring.

You know how people always make fun of old folks for telling their stories or old photos? Well, I always loved that type of stuff:)

I’m one of those people who makes fun of old folks for telling those stories LOL. But I do it because I love it! “Back in my day…” stories are fantastic. My mom used to tell me how my Great Aunt had to save every bit of string she had during the Depression in case she needed it; stories like that always fascinate me. I’m also that person who loves looking at photographs of people I don’t know (like old photos you’d find at a flea market or goodwill) so I can wonder about their history. That might be because I’m a Sociology nerd, lol. :)

Haha. That’s ok because it is a funny thing that old folks do, even if we do it love it! It’s endearing:)

Yay! This looks great! I would watch this even if Stephen weren’t on it, since I’m a genealogy nerd as well (I would love to see a detailed history of my ancestors), so to have Stephen on there will be a treat. :)

The National Archives offers insight into the lives of people, their families and our history. Because the records at the National Archives come from every branch of the Federal government, almost all Americans can find themselves, their ancestors, or their community in the archives. http://www.archives.gov/genealogy/ My family history has been pretty well preserved but there were some holes that have been filled in with the last generation of research. Apparently a not too far off Cherokee relative was strung up for being a horse thief. It was something that was hidden intentionally and was supposed to be forgotten. Ah… could that have been because of the white people of the region who bought those horses and kept them? hmm… This has been a great series of teases so it will be fun to learn more about all of these people.
